If there was a protagonist in this world, it was not me.

It was this guy.

The magic engineer, Oscar.

A dating sim protagonist disguised as a small fry who used to be bald…

A dating sim protagonist being bald was way too original?

Yeah, I thought so too… But now this guy was a handsome man with long, thick hair… I felt he looked more like a love interest from an otome game than the protagonist of a dating sim, but this guy was definitely not the one being pursued. He was the one doing the pursuing.

Why? Because this guy had easily pulled off the commonly seen warning, “only if you’re handsome,” even back when he was bald.

No, there were definitely handsome bald men, okay…?

But… people like that were handsome in the rugged sense… or the lived-experience sense… that kind of handsome, right?

A sweet-faced bald guy… What genre was that? Monk-type?

That said… the one who freed Oscar from the curse of premature baldness was none other than this Overlord. If that caused his protagonist power to increase, then I… had no choice but to fight for every man in the world other than Oscar.

“…So, Oscar, what brings you here today?”

“S-sorry, Boss! This really isn’t the kind of thing I should consult you about, since you’re the king and all… but I don’t have anyone else I can rely on…”

Oscar, who sat across from me, said that and bowed deeply.

And for some reason, the woman sitting beside Oscar bowed in the same way.

…Who is this girl?

She hadn’t been there when I investigated Oscar’s private life before… What? Had a new character from an expansion disc appeared? Or was this the sequel?

“First, explain the situation. If you suddenly bow your head after coming here, I won’t understand anything.”

“I’m sorry… Actually… the thing I wanted to consult you about is this girl.”

Well, he had gone out of his way to bring her here, so of course that was the case… But what would I do if this was a report that he was about to cross the finish line with a new girl?

Ah, but if so… there was also the pattern where all the girls so far turned into obsessive lovers and stabbed Oscar.

What a shame, losing such a promising man.

“Are you getting married?”

“No, I’m not!? Why would the conversation suddenly go there!?”

“So you’re not.”

I thought it was a clear-route report, but it seemed the event was still in progress… Tch, apparently Oscar was not going to get stabbed yet.

“Um, actually, she… seems to not remember anything.”

“What do you mean?”

There was too little context for me to understand.

“I’m sorry… Um, apparently she doesn’t remember her own name, her birthplace, what she’d been doing until now… anything at all.”

“A-amnesia…?”

I turned my gaze once more to the girl sitting beside Oscar.

Long, pure-white hair and red eyes… Her skin was extremely white too, giving her a fragile impression… She looked weak to sunlight. Vampires didn’t seem to exist in this world so far… but there was also the possibility that she was albino.

Her age was… around twenty? If she was that age and claimed she remembered nothing, then the options were either amnesia or criminal. Her expression seemed anxious… but I couldn’t tell whether that anxiety came from having no memories or from suddenly being brought before the king.

But Oscar… wasn’t the person you were consulting a little strange?

I am the Overlord, you know?

I’m not the person you come to for advice after bringing an amnesiac girl along, right? Go to a doctor!?

Well, sure, okay? Protagonists did casually consult kings and the like in a “Would you really consult the king about something like that?” sort of way… Damn it… Did that mean that, in the Oscar World, I was positioned as the reliable king!?

“…I want a little more information. How did you meet her?”

“Five days ago, I was running out of development ink, so I went to a familiar shop to order more… On my way back, I bumped into this girl at a corner.”

How cliché…

“When I hurriedly helped her up, three men with their faces hidden suddenly attacked… I ended up saving her because of how things unfolded, but she fainted right after that. And then, well, I thought it would be bad to take her to my house, so I brought her to a nearby inn… After she woke up, I heard that she couldn’t remember anything.”

And she was absolutely loaded with backstory too… Did such a classic development really happen just by walking around town?

“You’re not the one who knocked her memories out by bumping into her, right?”

“No. She said it had already happened before that.”

“Do you know anything about the people who attacked her?”

“No. Apparently, she was walking through town with no memories when they suddenly started chasing her…”

This was a complete bald guy—long-hair—meets girl… Fine then. This Overlord would be your opponent.

But before that…

“…Listen, you. In another time, simply bumping into a woman could get you arrested by the guards, you know?”

“Just from bumping into her!?”

“Of course. If you don’t want that, then watch where you’re walking. Knowing you, this isn’t the first time you’ve bumped into a woman around a corner, is it?”

“Y-you know me well…”

At my point, Oscar lowered his head awkwardly.

If you’re going to bump into something, bump into a carriage… No, in this guy’s case, that would probably turn into a pattern where a young lady steps down from the carriage.

“What would you do if the person you bumped into was pregnant? Even if not, when someone with a sturdy build like yours bumps into a small woman, she could be injured.”

“Y-yes.”

“Near corners, don’t try to take the shortest route. If you keep a reasonable distance, you won’t keep bumping into people left and right.”

“…I’m sorry. You’re right.”

“And you, bringing an unconscious woman into an inn makes you a complete criminal, you know?”

“…”

Without protagonist traits, that would be an instant out, all right? No, would throwing him into jail for everyone’s sake be better?

“Well, be careful from now on. Now then, that’s enough lecturing. Let’s talk about the woman. Knowing you, you already used your acquaintances’ connections to investigate, right?”

“Yes… I asked a guard friend and some well-informed friends to look into all kinds of things, but we couldn’t find any clues at all… Still, something that might be a clue happened the day before yesterday… Well, it was an attack by masked people. Right now, they’re being interrogated in the jail at the guards’ station.”

“…Understood. I’ll help. Ururu.”

As a matter of course, even though I suddenly called her name, Ururu immediately appeared.

Maybe Ururu had “Hawk Ear” and the ability to teleport near me.

“…Yes.”

“Investigate this woman’s past, name, and birthplace. Also find out why she is being attacked. Apparently, the attackers have been captured at the guards’ station in the Yōntsu territorial capital.”

“…Understood.”

Ururu silently disappeared somewhere in the same way she had appeared. Oscar and the amnesiac woman, seeing that, had their eyes wide open.

“If I leave it to her, the information will be gathered quickly. If she’s from within Einheria, she should be able to return home as early as tomorrow.”

Ururu had an unreasonable level of ability in a vector completely different from Oscar.

She would probably dig up this girl’s information by the end of the day, and as for the attackers, she would probably make them spit everything out in seconds.

If Oscar cleared the events in proper order, he might have been able to save this girl properly… but I would surpass that with the power of the Overlord.

The next day, just as I had said, Ururu perfectly investigated both the background and the name of the amnesiac girl and guided us to a certain village within Einheria.

Of course, Oscar and the amnesiac girl were with us, but Eisha and Lynferia accompanied us as well.

Honestly, I didn’t want to bring Oscar near my people, but just in case something happened, I had Ururu, Lynferia, and Eisha, who was a specialist in the holy attribute, which was healing magic, accompany us.

Incidentally, the amnesiac girl… collapsed while clutching her head right after arriving in the village, so we carried her to her home and handed her over to her mother… Then she woke up and regained her memories… Various events happened, but I skipped all of that completely.

Oscar went along with them, though.

For now, the girl who had lost her memories apparently belonged to a shrine maiden-like clan in this village… and what they worshiped was apparently the dragon living in the plain stretching north of this village.

Incidentally… this village was south of Einheria Castle, or rather, located on the southern side of Dragon’s Roost.

Well, faiths that worshiped dangerous things seemed to be fairly common… and Ground Dragons were recognized as something like natural disasters, so it wouldn’t be strange for there to be people who worshiped one.

…Though it was a stupid lizard that didn’t seem likely to provide any blessing at all even if they worshiped it.

Actually, I hesitated a little over whether I should tell them that I had killed it pretty casually… but, well, let sleeping gods lie, so I left that alone.

I had no intention of finding fault with other people’s faith, and I thought people should believe in whatever they liked… so even if Eisha called me God—Lord Fels—I didn’t mind.

Well, I had no intention of getting along with other religions, though… Eisha would probably go wild.

Speaking of religion, there was another thing… The people who had attacked the amnesiac girl were apparently part of a different dragon-worshiping group.

I didn’t really understand it, but apparently by kidnapping this village’s shrine maiden and offering her as a sacrifice, they would resurrect the dead dragon or something… No, if they could resurrect that lizard whose materials had been completely harvested until not even a fragment of its original form remained, then I didn’t really mind because we could simply enjoy it deliciously one more time… But there was no way offering a sacrifice would bring it back, and in the first place, I couldn’t permit a sacrifice just for the sake of materials.

I did ask Oscar, Viktor, Efaria, and others whether there was any magic or rituals related to resurrection, but apparently no such dubious, occult-like things existed.

It was a shame there was no resurrection magic… but well, it couldn’t be helped. This wasn’t a game, after all.

For now, I had no intention of oppressing faith, but I also had no intention of allowing a faith in Einheria if it ran wild and caused trouble for others.

And so, while she was unconscious, Ururu guided us, and we quickly crushed the headquarters of that suspicious religious organization and criminal group by ourselves.

It was a place with a pretty eerie atmosphere, and it did not look at all like they practiced a pure and proper faith. The dark stains on the walls and floor had the vibe of “could those be bloodstains?”

Well, there was also the possibility that it was a fake evil cult’s chicken-blood ritual… but our country was an absolute monarchy, so if I called it an evil cult, it was an evil cult.

No, Ururu had properly gathered evidence that they were an illegal organization, okay?

And so, we quickly crushed their headquarters and branches and rounded up all of their members in one sweep… but one miscalculation occurred.

After the evil cult was exterminated, Eisha quietly muttered, “As expected, the object of faith should be unified.”

Because I wanted to break Oscar’s flags, I might have raised a strange flag instead, but it was fair to say it was already too late in various ways.

Well, that was how we sent the amnesiac woman back to her family home, had her regain her memories, crushed the kidnapping organization, and eliminated any future danger… while also eliminating the object of their faith in the process… or rather, I already had.

With this, the whole chain of events surrounding her should have been fully cleared. Even Oscar, surely, would not be able to raise any more flags now.

…Actually, I had gone all the way through this mostly on momentum, but… this was reality, not a game, so flags and events and all that had nothing to do with anything… But when Oscar was involved, a strangely dating-sim-like world started unfolding, so it seemed I had gone overboard in various ways.

If asked whose fault it was, I would proudly answer that it was Oscar’s fault.

“Boss… I’m sorry for causing trouble.”

The source of all this uproar… at least to me… came over to me with an apologetic look.

“Don’t worry about it. Thanks to you bringing this matter to me, we were able to crush one incomprehensible criminal organization. It’s my job to ensure that the people living in Einheria can live in peace.”

“I’ve always thought you were amazing, Boss… but this time, I feel like I realized a different kind of amazingness from before.”

Well, I had resolved one person’s episode in a single day… Wait, I told myself this wasn’t a game.

“I used various forceful methods, but I’m glad it was resolved safely. We also took care of the people who tried to kidnap that girl… so nothing strange should happen from now on. We’re about to return, but what will you do?”

“I’ll return with you. It looks like that girl is fine now, and I already said goodbye properly…”

Oscar said that and, for some reason, looked toward that girl’s house with a gaze that seemed to stare into the distance.

I really wanted to punch him… Why was he giving off that kind of atmosphere after knowing her for only a few days? No, this too was a dating sim cliché…

However, without noticing the darkness in my heart, Oscar turned toward me and opened his mouth with a smile.

“Oh, I’ll bring you my new research results next time.”

He switched gears in an instant… Was this him acting tough or forcing himself to be cheerful? I didn’t really understand that mood, so I wasn’t going to try cheering him up, okay?

“Understood… Then how about five days from now?”

“Got it. In that case, I’ll come with the circuit in five days. It might sound strange coming from me, but I think this result answers your request pretty well, Boss.”

“Oh? I’ll look forward to it.”

That was how I parted ways with Oscar that day, but five days later… Oscar came to the castle as promised.

For some reason, with an unfamiliar woman.

“Um, Boss… A few days ago, I found this girl collapsed in the forest, covered in wounds…”

What the hell was with this guy…?
