The Audience Chamber was engulfed in thunderous cheers.
The instant I introduced myself, a roar reverberated through the room… and honestly, it scared me. I mean, I expected a reaction, sure? I was aiming for it a little. But I didn’t think it would be this intense.
It must have meant everyone here was overwhelmed with emotion—and I was the one who provoked it. I couldn’t help wondering if it was really okay to make this much of a racket in the Audience Chamber, but… I was probably the most important person here, and I didn’t care at all.
No problem.
There wasn’t a problem, but… there also wasn’t any chance for me to speak.
What did I do? Was it okay to end the greeting like this…? Of course not. I’d only stated my name… Should I just lift a hand or something? Sometimes when you did that, everyone went silent at once, right? I’d seen that before.
Thinking that, I raised my hand smoothly.
In the next instant, the sound that had been threatening to tear the Audience Chamber apart stopped—without even a hair of deviation.
Seriously… They were trained way too well… No, no—bad. I was the Overlord, right?
“…I never expected to be able to meet all of you in this manner, but I am here now.”
That was the absolute truth… I still didn’t really understand what was going on. Even so, I was standing before them like this. Just like when I called myself Overlord Fels… by my own will.
Right now, I was just an ordinary gamer wearing the skin of Overlord Fels.
If this was truly reality… then I was a thief who had stolen another man’s accomplishments… and the loyalty born from them. In truth, I felt like I should never be allowed to accept the loyalty of those kneeling here.
“In truth, I should not have been able to stand here… before all of you.”
But… since I was here… since I wore Fels’s face… since I could only be myself, that meant I was Fels. Complaints were not accepted!
“And yet, by some twist of fate, I stand here in this form!”
This was the world after the ending… I didn’t know what might happen, but… it would be fine. There shouldn’t be anything dangerous! I should be able to enjoy peaceful Overlord life day after day! We’d unified the continent, after all! As long as I didn’t govern like a tyrant, we were good, right?
It was short, but… the speech was over! I’d close with the one line the protagonist actually had.
“Then I swear! My sword existed to cleave through darkness! My shield existed to protect those who followed! Before me there was no road, and my very steps became the road! Let all be swallowed whole! In the name of Overlord Fels!”
It was the line spoken when the protagonist earned a title. The first half was the same for any title, but the second half changed depending on which one you got. Overlord had a real “crush everything” vibe.
That said, my Overlord life from here on would be a bit more mild, okay?
Because the eyes of everyone kneeling were starting to gleam through their tears… I should catch my breath a little. Honestly, I felt like I’d stirred them up too much…
With that thought, I sat on the throne with a rough, domineering air.
“Well, the continent had been pacified, so from here on we’ll be making that peace unshakable. I’m fine with war, but I’m not good at that other stuff… Will you all lend me your strength?”
Lies. I couldn’t do military or politics, for real.
“Yes!”
Everyone bowed their heads in unison and answered. I was anxious about whether I could manage, but… there should be administrative-types among them, so it’d work out somehow, right?
And then… silence filled the Audience Chamber for a while.
Huh? What was I supposed to do now? Wasn’t there some kind of closing declaration…?
Oh—maybe I just left? But… walking out without a word felt…
Ah, right.
I stood from the throne and opened my mouth.
“I expected great work from you all… Lynferia.”
“Yes!”
I called Lynferia’s name and began walking. Lynferia followed behind me. What about the door…? Was I supposed to open it myself? Was that acceptable for an Overlord?
That needless worry vanished when someone standing beside the door opened it for me. I exited the Audience Chamber with a slightly unhurried pace and spoke to Lynferia.
“I wanted to go somewhere we could speak. My private chambers… no, guide me to my office.”
“Yes! Understood!”
Dragging a girl into your private chambers right away was no good, right? Even if I was an Overlord, I was a gentleman, okay? And I needed to make it look like I worked, too.
Also, did I even have private chambers? There was an office background image, but… I didn’t think there was a private-chambers one.
Overlord… did I even have a place to sleep…?
While I was thinking that, Lynferia guided me to a room that looked like a reception room. Sofas were arranged facing each other, with a low table between them. It was obviously not the kind of table you did paperwork on.
Huh? I thought I said “office,” but… Oh, maybe the door deeper in was it? As I stared at it, Lynferia opened it for me.
Beyond it was a room I recognized from the game. So that was the office. A heavy desk surrounded by bookshelves… Just sitting there would make someone look like they got an absurd amount of work done… Also, the writing—was it Japanese? Since it was a domestic game, I really wanted it to be Japanese.
For now, I didn’t need to use the office itself. There was only one chair… I’d use the reception set out front.
“Lynferia, sit. Sorry to ask again, but there were things I needed to know.”
“Yes! Excuse me!”
After bowing, Lynferia sat across from me. Her posture was perfectly straight… It was extremely stiff, but… judging from how things were in the Audience Chamber, maybe it couldn’t be helped.
“First, Lynferia. You were the Captain of the Royal Guard, right?”
“Yes! That was correct! I was appointed by you, Fels-sama!”
As expected… In the base part, you could assign various posts to characters depending on the size of your nation. If the assignment layout matched my memory… then it was safe to say this world was built on my save data.
Edited characters had names I personally gave them… so there was no way this was just coincidence.
“…I’m going to confirm whether my memory is correct. If anything is wrong, point it out immediately.”
“Understood.”
“The Grand General was Arandor. The Minister of the Interior was Ilmitt. The Minister of Foreign Affairs was Ururu. The High Archbishop was Eisha. The Development Director was Otonoha. The Court Mage was Kamila. The Strategist was Kiriku.”
I listed the names, recalling the characters I had created specifically for posts. For the record, for no particular reason, everyone except Arandor and Kiriku was a girl. Strange, that.
Also, those posts didn’t really do anything beyond providing support effects—buffs—to the nation or allied characters. Being assigned a post didn’t trigger special events; it just meant I placed characters with abilities optimized to maximize the buffs.
Lynferia’s post as Captain of the Royal Guard was the same—she was the slot that provided defense-type buffs to all allies.
“Yes. There were no discrepancies.”
With Lynferia’s confirmation, I reached certainty. These were unquestionably the characters I had edited… and my clear data.
Which meant… my growth had progressed to the point where I could easily clear the hardest setting in the game—white country, Overlord + Evil God route—even on the highest difficulty!
…No, wait, wait. That conclusion was too fast.
Even if they were my edited characters, it didn’t necessarily mean they were fully trained… Stats. If I asked stats, I could tell whether they were trained.
“Lynferia. What was your Might?”
Might was the value for attack power in the RPG part, and the measure of duel strength in the war part.
I didn’t remember her exact number, but I thought it was around 120 without equipment… The max was 125, so she was a serious fighter.
“P-Please forgive me… When you said ‘what was it’… how should I answer that…?”
Lynferia’s face went pale, and her body trembled in small shudders as she forced the question out.
“Hm? ‘How should you answer’? You could just answer with a number, but…”
“A number?!”
Lynferia cried out with eyes wide open, and then I heard her muttering in a small voice.
“Huh? With a number… Might…? Normal… normal, what do I do…? Ah, ah… Not being able to answer Fels-sama’s question… big sister, what should I do…”
She started spiraling, eyes spinning as she panicked… So there was no way to view stats in this world? That was unexpected… I remembered roughly who was good at what among my main characters, but… I could work with that. More importantly—she’d just said “big sister”… Did she have an older sister in her setting? I definitely didn’t remember that level of detail…
“Fels-sama! I apologize. I am unable to answer your question! I shall have this useless head cut off at once!”
What?!
In the brief moment I’d been thinking, Lynferia had decided on self-destruction?!
I hurriedly stopped her as she sprang up and tried to rush out of the room.
“Stop right there! Lynferia! Sit!”
I’d panicked and my tone came out weird, but it couldn’t be helped. Even an Overlord panicked sometimes.
Maybe because I’d ordered her to sit, Lynferia obediently complied and sat down on the floor.
No, you could sit on the sofa, you know.
“I’m sorry, Lynferia. I asked that poorly. Wait a moment.”
No numeric stats… Then how could I confirm… Duel strength… no, a golem.
In the RPG part of Legions, there were monsters called golems. You could take them out easily with magic, but with physical attacks, you needed a certain level of Might or you couldn’t deal damage at all.
“Could you injure an Adamantite Golem with an iron sword?”
“I could.”
“Understood. Sit on the sofa.”
“Yes!”
To deal damage to an Adamantite Golem, you needed Might of 115 or higher, and an iron sword increased Might by 1. Since you couldn’t be unarmed in the system, Lynferia’s Might had to be 114 or higher… That was practically the same as the strength I’d raised her to.
I’d confirm one more thing.
“How many soldiers could you command without equipment?”
“Twelve thousand.”
“Twelve thousand…”
I’ll skip the detailed explanation, but in Legions, ordinary soldiers were summoned by commanders. The number a commander could summon was one hundred times their Leadership stat.
Since Lynferia could command twelve thousand soldiers, her Leadership stat was 120.
There was no mistake—Lynferia’s ability values were far beyond ordinary growth.
I’d been careful not to get carried away as I confirmed all this, but… wasn’t it okay to get carried away now?
It wasn’t cheating—I’d followed the rules—but… more than half the people in that Audience Chamber were probably at least first-rate growth, even if they weren’t at Lynferia’s level…
I’d won… This was a win… Heh-heh-heh.
I stood up slowly and moved beside Lynferia.
“Thank you, Lynferia. I’m glad you all were here. From the bottom of my heart, I am proud of you.”
“F-Fels-sama!”
Lynferia tried to drop to one knee in the narrow gap between the sofa and the table and slammed her head full force into the table.
…Because I’d come so close, she ended up forced into kneeling in such a tight space… Honestly, my bad.
“Fels-sama! J-Just hearing those words… we…!”
Lynferia started speaking in a voice that could only be described as sobbing-wail, but at that moment, someone pounded on the door with incredible force, and a voice outside called my name.
“Fels-sama! It’s terrible—terrible! Are you in there?! Fels-sama!”
