Because They Are Human, They Can Be So Evil (3)

Early next morning. A time when breakfast hadn’t even been had.

Most people went to sleep late due to the commotion caused by Tess’s wife and Kyuri’s daughter-in-law the night before.

Moreover, there were two patients who needed rest.

Nonetheless, the atmosphere in the reception room early in the morning was sharply cold.

Like gunslingers about to draw their pistols with their backs turned to each other. Like swordsmen aiming their blades at each other’s necks.

Between me and the five old men seated in front of me, the tension was as fierce as a midwinter cold snap.

To understand the origin of the incident, we need to rewind time back to the morning.

Just as dawn was breaking, at a time so early that it was hard to see people out for their livelihood on Exorsus Street. A time when you might want to linger a bit longer in bed as the light slowly brightens.

I sprang out of bed at the sound of the alarm echoing through the mansion.

Quickly passing the second floor and descending to the first, I equipped my gear, drew my longsword, and opened the door as I passed through the hall.

First, I circulated mana to assess the surroundings.

As I opened the door, I heard the flow and clash of mana and a loud noise from the distant main gate.

‘What is this? Could Violentia have noticed? Or is it that demon woman?’

Not in a rush, but not slow either, I crossed the boulevard to the gate, and what I saw were five old men running around, wildly casting spells at the iron gate.

The thought that crossed my mind upon seeing that scene was whether this was a new type of surprise party. It had to be, because those five old men were people I was already acquainted with.

Otherwise, there was no particular reason to be casting spells at someone else’s gate so early in the morning, almost like dawn.

“Stop!”

As I shouted with force, the five mages leapt back using Blink magic, and only after the ground where they stood was scorched and overturned by a counterattack spell did the commotion cease.

“What are you doing?”

“Oh! You came at the right time. Haha. This is… a counterattack spell! What kind of way is this to treat a guest? Since it seems you’re unfamiliar with the etiquette of Exorsus, let’s overlook it.”

“Hmm, indeed. As adults, we should understand.”

“Still! If young ones see adults arriving so early, they should rush out barefoot to greet them. But looking at him, it seems he was late because he was busy arming himself and putting on armor…!”

Despite the nonsense being said, I decided to hold back for once and ask again.

This time, I infused both Force and Mana, letting my voice carry a chill colder than the morning air.

“I’ll ask again. What are you doing?”

“No…!”

“How dare a young one glare at me like that?!”

“Hey! Everyone, calm down! Tsk. And you too. We came early in the morning and knocked, but no one came out, so we just subtly let you know we were here.”

What kind of nonsense is this? For a moment, I was so dumbfounded that my thoughts were interrupted.

Just as I was about to let out my frustration, I sensed the presence of Arun and Lee Hyo-ju coming out upon hearing the commotion.

Seeing them, the five tower masters brightened and began striding confidently inside the gate.

That’s how we ended up here now.

As time passed and I calmly reflected on the earlier events, the more their rudeness angered me.

“Arun, what time did you schedule with them yesterday?”

“10 o’clock.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes, I’m sure of it.”

“Ahem!”

“Uh-huh!”

“Excuse me!”

“You should be grateful for us coming early…”

“Indeed…”

So, in conclusion, these senile fools, tempted by the Mithril, barged into the mansion at the ridiculously early hour of 6 a.m., well before the agreed time.

And instead of waiting patiently, they knocked on the door and then scribbled magic all over someone else’s house as if demanding someone to come out.

Naturally, the counter-magic and defense magic were activated, and the alarm magic shook the entire mansion.

Particularly, two patients were woken up by the sudden alarm magic, and the three of us, representatives of the gods, dashed out in a hurry in the morning.

But the problem was what happened next.

They, while speaking in roundabout ways, shamelessly admitted to attacking the mansion where three representatives of the gods were staying, and casually walked in, sat comfortably in the reception room, and scolded us for being late.

The only relief was that the high-dimensional magic circle, made of the finest materials and high-purity Mithril Ingots, was intact, but the magic stone powering the magic circle was on the verge of losing its light.

“Hey, old geezers. Aren’t you tired of living and breathing now? Huh? Do you see the Grim Reaper’s scythe flashing before your eyes when you wake up?”

Of course, nothing nice was going to come out of my mouth.

I wanted to tear them all to pieces right away, but since they held the status of tower masters of the five magic towers, I decided to at least listen to their excuse first.

“What?! What did you say?!”

“Eek!”

“Ahem!”

“Ugh!”

“Hmph!”

The old man in a robe with a flame pattern and the old woman in a robe with a whirlwind pattern jumped up from their seats, pointing fingers and spewing curses.

“Hey, red old man. Life’s tough and tiring? Then jump off the top of your tower. Don’t come to someone else’s house begging to be killed.”

“You brat!!”

Fwoosh! Fire Tower. Mages who mainly handle fire magic.

Naturally, when the master of the Fire Tower gets angry, the flaming balls around him reflect his fury.

“What? Gonna throw it? Go ahead. Try it. Why are you scared? Hesitating when it comes to actually doing it?”

“You rascal!!”

“Hey, old man. Grind your teeth like that, and they’ll fall out. It’s just a fireball. Go ahead, throw it!”

Just as the foolish old man was about to cast his spell, an old man in a white robe stood up and stopped the Fire Tower master.

Then, as if reluctantly, he canceled the spell and sat down.

“Idiot. Just as shriveled as you are old, with no pride or anything.”

“You young brat, watch your mouth!”

The only woman among the tower masters, the master of the Wind Tower, who had been watching the situation, sneered.

“Young brat? Ha! Young brat?! Hey, old hag. Is your staff heavy? Want me to make it so you can put it down with your spoon?!”

“You, you rascal! Did your parents teach you to speak to elders like that? This is why those without roots are trouble! Do you even know who I am? I’m the master of the Wind Tower, you brat!”

Boom!

The air grew heavy. But such things didn’t matter at all.

Yet, I can’t stand this old man in front of me insulting the parents who lived for Mina and me, now just a distant memory.

Ha! It’s annoying enough dealing with the damn gods, and now these old people who aren’t even pawns of the gods are acting all high and mighty.

Isn’t it like an ant with a bit of strength trying to challenge a human?

Although the door connected to the terrace was closed, making it a bit cramped, the reception room, as large as a decent conference room, was filled with a dense killing intent that drove away warmth and took its place.

A life of 31 years was solely about fighting, war, slaughter, and training.

Training to efficiently kill people, no, living beings.

That killing intent, deeply rooted in the soul from such a life, was released like unleashing a beast from its leash.

“You, you!! Do you think I don’t know? That you representatives can’t commit murder in Exorsus!”

Ha! So that’s it. Is that why you’re so full of yourself?

Looking around, the other tower masters also nodded with satisfied smiles. A gesture saying they all know.

Suddenly, an inexplicable laughter burst out. So much that I couldn’t control it.

“So hurry up and hand over the Mithril Ingot. I will specially make it expensive for you…”

“Kuh!! Kkkkkkkk, kkkk! Kkkkkkkk! Puhahahahahahahaha!!”

‘Verify.’

“Has this bastard truly lost his mind?!”

“Hey.”

“Wh-what?!”

“Hey, you crazy bitch. Shut your mouth and listen carefully, you stupid bitch. First, before you go on about others respecting elders, you barged into someone else’s house uninvited. Representatives are guaranteed at least the status of a count in this ‘Battlefield of the Gods.’ Surely, you know at least that much, right?”

“W-we had an agreement…”

Even on Earth, visiting someone’s home at such an early hour is considered rude.

Moreover, in a place like this where nobles and royalty exist, honor and etiquette are of utmost importance among the nobility.

This ‘Battlefield of the Gods’, where slaves designated by gods fight, mirrors the gods who thrive on pomp and pride, making it even more crucial.

Yet these foolish tower masters barged in, completely ignoring such honor.

“Second, do you still not realize whose house you just cast magic on? You might as well have cast it on the Duke’s mansion of the Darkness Empire, you idiots.”

“Who do you think you are?!”

“You launched a magic attack on the residence of a god’s representative participating in the ‘Battlefield of the Gods’. You attacked the magic circle installed for the sake of protection. And this is only the first year. In Exorsus, where protecting the representative is the top priority in the early stages of the ‘Battlefield of the Gods’!”

“Th-that was because you wouldn’t come out even when we called…”

“This is the last time. In Exorsus, the ‘setting’ that ‘one cannot inflict fatal injuries’ has an omitted phrase. The exact content is ‘a representative cannot inflict fatal injuries on another representative’. It becomes a problem if the one dying is a representative, but if the ones dying are you and the one killing is a representative, there’s no problem at all. So…”

Srrrrng!

“I believe I’ve explained enough about why an idiot like you is dying at my hands. So you won’t feel wronged. Right? Farewell.”
