After the meeting with the Creator, the surrounding scenery changed. The place I returned to was not the intensive care unit where I met Ludicer, but home.
I pretended to be confident in front of the God of the Gods, the Creator, but my legs gave out, and I collapsed onto the sofa as if crumbling.
After taking deep breaths and swallowing dryly several times, I struggled to sit up and read through the list of powers and remaining messages.
“Hmm…”
Good. Really good. It was so good that a moan escaped and a smile snuck out on its own.
Ludicer’s power was more insignificant than expected. Compared to the powers of other gods, the difference was like that between the sun and a firefly. At the moment of first receiving it, that is.
However, depending on how you would use this, you could fly alone on a plane while others would struggle to walk. Other gods’ agents were granted power and possessed the strength to cause natural disasters.
Is that all?
Upon completing the training received from Exorsus, you would be gifted with the followers of the god you belonged to, along with an increase in abilities. Among them, there were even angels with three pairs of wings.
But I was definitely different. First of all, Ludicer herself had little interest in the Battlefield of the Gods.
So, instead of gifts, I was only given skill points and stat points. Just like playing a game, really.
But not knowing how great a gift that was, there was a time when I felt frustrated and resentful.
“Even trying to think positively, it was really hopeless. Status window.”
The average strength, agility, and stamina of a robust male athlete are 5, and basic intellect, or reason, is 10.
“Hmm… strength is okay, agility is so-so. As expected! Stamina is my thing. Sigh, intellect is really pitiful. Luck is m– huh? What the…?”
As I calmly examined the physical stats, I was so surprised that I inadvertently used the manner of speaking I used in the ‘Battlefield of the Gods.’
But such things don’t really matter.
Looking at the intellect stat, it seems this status window is brutally objective, though I hate to admit it.
“Is the status window malfunctioning? No, judging by my reasoning, it’s still unnecessarily precise. This is a bit… It doesn’t feel like me. High luck is one thing, but a talent for ‘Thousand Talents’? Not ‘Genius’?”
“Cr-crazy!”
In the past, when I first received authority from Ludicer and checked, the only talent I had was adaptability. But now, a genius? I’ve never seen such a talent in over 30 years on the battlefield. Not even a similar one!
“Starting off well, huh? Can I handle it? No, I must be cautious. Those with talent should tread carefully.”
You might say, ‘It’s good to get stronger, right?’ but if this fact becomes known, it’s obvious that annoying obstacles will arise.
They might have already started monitoring. I must be cautious, very cautious.
Even if it weren’t for the Creator’s last advice, I have no intention of revealing myself early on until the plan is complete.
“Whew… Use ten skill points. Assimilation.”
“Yes.”
“Does it increase by 0.5% per level?”
So, is the increase significant? Yes, it is. It’s quite satisfactory. If it increases by 0.5% each level, by level 100, it would be set at over 50%.
If it goes as I set it—or more precisely, as Hyo-ju previously anticipated—even 50% would be incredible.
It’s definitely worth investing skill points.
“Skill Assimilation. Raise to level 50 with skill points.”
“Yes.”
“Use 50 free skill points on Assimilation.”
“Yes.”
“So the rewards for surpassing the second limit are the same. But is this really okay?”
I spent 150 skill points and 50 free skill points, and received 40 skill points and 20 free skill points back.
It wasn’t a matter of whether to increase ‘Assimilation’ further. ‘Dive’ isn’t intended to level up, and ‘True—Gaming System’, ‘True—Inventory’ don’t have skill levels. In other words, they aren’t powers meant for leveling up. Naturally, I plan to raise the level of ‘Assimilation’ further.
However, the reason I questioned whether it was okay was because of the levels rising too easily.
Second limit, skill level 100. This figure holds immense significance.
To break through each limit, special conditions are required, and tremendous effort is needed.
But thanks to the ample points, no conditions or effort are needed to break through. It just happens naturally and too easily.
“First… use 100 free skill points… on Assimilation.”
“…Yes.”
“Uh…? Wh-what did you say? Argh, aaaaargh!! Aaaaaaagh!!”
A situation I had never experienced before. But I didn’t have the mental capacity to question such a situation due to the immense pain.
How should I describe it? The pain of each cell being individually scorched by fire, then dipped in ice, and then scorched by fire again?
Indescribable pain engulfed my entire body. Even the breeze brushing against my hair felt painful, and I wished I could faint, but I couldn’t. Or maybe I did faint, only to be awakened repeatedly by the overwhelming pain.
Flames that burned each cell gathered and raced through my veins. I could feel something oozing out from every orifice of my body.
My body, though only partially, has been made suitable to receive divine power, surpassing any human. Yet, I could feel something relentlessly being expelled. Time passed endlessly in this agony that made me wish for death.
I fainted the moment the pain disappeared.
