“Yes! It seems a bit of trash got mixed in, but that concludes the Rite of Ability Awakening! Next, we shall tally the awakened abilities and assign rankings to each class!”
“Please wait, Vice Principal Yes-Man!”
“Oh? What is it, Weiss-kun?”
“Before the ranking, we of Class 1-20 would like to carry out an expulsion.”
The word Weiss declared—expulsion.
It referred to a system in which students who were a burden or broke rules were removed from their class.
If a majority of the class agreed, the named student would be expelled.
In the case of Class 1-20, there were ten students total, meaning nine excluding the target.
In other words, five votes were enough for expulsion to pass.
An expelled student would be transferred to a class called the Special Training Class.
The so-called Special Training Class was, in essence, a dumping ground for useless students.
Originally, this system was meant to be applied over the course of academy life.
However, an expulsion on the very first day—during the entrance ceremony no less—was unprecedented.
At Weiss’s overly swift decision, the yes-man vice principal groaned.
“Hmmmm, I see! You intend to expel the trash now to prevent your class ranking from dropping!”
“Yes. First impressions are everything.”
Weiss replied as he adjusted his glasses.
“As expected of Weiss-kun—truly worthy of becoming a Sage! Very well, we shall take the vote right here and now! Students of Class 1-20! Those who wish to expel the trash known as Leopin-kun, raise your hands!”
……Snap!
Nine hands shot into the air.
Every boy and girl who had been Leopin’s classmates stared without the slightest hesitation.
Yet they had no way of knowing.
That letting go of Leopin would become a regret as deep as the ocean.
And that it would happen very soon…!
“Then it is decided unanimously! Trash goes to the incinerator! Leopin-kun goes to the Special Training Class! Now that that’s settled, let us announce the class rankings!”
And so the rankings were revealed.
The top five classes were……
“Ohhh! As expected of the triple ones…! Class 1-11, where everyone landed advanced classes, takes the top spot! Class 1-02, which includes Saint Monaka-san—the girl called the reincarnation of the Goddess—also performed admirably!”
At these results, Weiss ground his teeth.
‘—Damn it… C Rank…! I was sure we’d at least secure a B Rank after getting rid of that big piece of trash…! The abilities of the other trash besides me were just far too low…!’
“And speaking of Saint Monaka-san, we have wonderful news for everyone! To commemorate Monaka-san’s debut as a Saint, the class of the first student to receive her Healing will be awarded a prize of ten million Enders!”
‘—Saint Monaka… the daughter of a renowned family of Saints. The first to receive her compassion—something every man longed for—would, of course, be me, Weiss…! With ten million Enders as war funds, I could leave the other classes far behind…! The best woman and the best money—I would seize both, no matter what…!’
Weiss stared as if piercing through it at the large certificate the yes-man vice principal held aloft, labeled “Monaka-san Lovey-Dovey Prize.”
However, he did not know.
In fact, none of the students in the venue knew.
Where the unattainable flower of a girl was at that very moment—
“…Leo-kun?”
Leopin, slumped in the corner of the venue, lifted his face at the bell-like voice.
Before him stood a girl so beautiful it seemed as though she radiated a holy aura, peering at him with concern.
A pure white robe untouched by defilement, paired with a perfectly worn uniform.
From beneath her knee-length skirt, translucent white calves peeked out.
Her long hair, flowing on the breeze, carried a floral fragrance.
Gem-like eyes, cherry-blossom lips—everything about her was fleeting, even divine.
She was nothing like the grimy Leopin, like leftover snow melting by the roadside.
Leopin looked at the girl and asked,
“Who are you?”
“Have you forgotten me? We went to elementary school together. I’m Monaka.”
Leopin’s eyes went wide.
She was nothing like the girl from his memories.
“You’re that crybaby Monaka…!? You’ve really grown up!”
“M—my goodness, Leo-kun! I’m not a crybaby anymore!”
Monaka pressed her hands to her chest shyly.
Her expression and gestures were just like when she was little.
However, her chest had grown generously, swelling enough to spill out from the sides when pressed.
Leopin almost had his eyes drawn to it, but forced himself to focus on Monaka’s face.
“We went to different middle schools, but now we’re at the same academy again.”
“Yes! I look forward to working with you!”
Monaka bowed politely, her smile bursting with joy.
But her expression quickly clouded.
“Um… are you all right? Your face is injured…”
“Oh, it’s nothing. I got hurt like this all the time back in elementary school, didn’t I?”
“Yes. Leo-kun always protected me.
And because of that, I wanted to heal Leo-kun’s injuries, so I—”
She suddenly realized what she was saying and flushed bright red.
“P—please stay still. I’ll heal you right away.”
With fingers like white fish, Monaka gently touched Leopin’s cheek.
The two of them were enveloped in a pure, white light.
The scrapes on Leopin’s face vanished, and the blood in his mouth stopped flowing.
Faced with such miraculous power, Leopin touched his face and exclaimed in amazement.
“Incredible. Your older sister was an amazing healer too, but you’re just as strong as she was.”
Monaka smiled like a loving mother.
“Hehe, thank you. I’m glad my first Healing was for you, Leo-kun.”
Only then did the two finally notice that the venue had fallen silent, as if water had been poured over it.
When they looked toward the entrance ceremony stage, Principal Nekodran and the yes-man vice principal were staring straight at them.
Not only them—every new student was completely fixated on Leopin and Monaka.
All of them stood there with their mouths hanging open.
“T—this is for real…? Our idol, Monaka-san…”
“She gave her first Healing… to that trash guy…”
“N—no waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!?!”
