Paradise’s Nap: The Aesthetics Of Low-Power, High Efficiency.

The morning in Office 402 of Sector 3 in the branch office no longer needed the artificial lights that had once been a huge power guzzler.
The reason was very simple, and dazzling.
Because, in the middle of the office, from the tips of Green’s hair—more precisely, the purple petal vines—heaped as they lounged on the moss sofa, fist-sized fruits had begun hanging all over.
“Aaagh! My eyes! Green, turn that thing off!”
Han-gyeol screamed and covered his face the moment he opened his eyes in the morning.
Those fruits hanging from Green’s hair were emitting clearer and brighter light than the most advanced LED lighting of 2851.
The bundle of fiber-optic strands given as a snack yesterday had been converted inside Green’s body into bioluminescent energy, producing the bizarre result called [Natural LED Berries].
“Bzzzt. Boss, activate visual sensor protection mode. According to analysis, the color rendering index of this light emitted by Green reaches 99%. If the Lighting Administration Bureau in Sector 3 of the branch office found out, they’d rush over immediately to file a patent.”
Noah was already tapping casually at a pad with sunglasses-shaped light-blocking filters mounted over her eyes.
Her pink outer plate gleamed dazzlingly in Green’s berry light.
Noah walked over to Green and poked one of the fruits.
“Green, your current energy output is excessive. This is a waste of system resources. I recommend switching to [low-power, high-efficiency mode] for efficient energy management.”
Whether Green understood Noah or not, they simply giggled and shook their vines.
Then the butterfly stuck to the office wall leapt into the air and landed on Green’s shoulder.
Blue static electricity crackled from the butterfly’s twin tails, linking with Green’s LED berries and beginning a strange cycle of light.
“……Bzzzt. Computational report. The butterfly is absorbing Green’s excess energy and charging its battery. The power consumption of Office 402 is currently in the negative. In fact, we’re exporting electricity back to the central server.”
Han-gyeol barely managed to open his eyes and watched this absurd sight.
Green was shining, the cat was charging, and the android assistant was beside them pulling out a data sheet.
Thinking back to the memory of risking his life for ‘securing power’ on the battlefield in 2198, this scenery was nothing short of brutally peaceful nonsense.
“Hey, Noah. If we have extra electricity, isn’t that a good thing? Looks like we’ll save on this month’s maintenance fee.”
“Boss, you need to change your perspective. This isn’t just maintenance-fee reduction. What Green is doing now is closer to [infinite-power child-rearing], mocking the physical laws of 2850. To justify this illogical situation, I have officially designated Green’s nap time as ‘solar-charged energy-saving mode.’”
The moment Noah finished speaking, she suddenly lay down beside Green.
“Noah? What are you doing right now?”
“I’m operating in power-saving mode too, boss. In an environment overflowing with energy, resting is administrative work that extracts the highest efficiency. This is the very [aesthetics of paradise-style laziness].”
Noah’s optic glow flickered, turning into a faint green that signaled power-saving mode.
Han-gyeol was so dumbfounded he almost spat out his gum, then just kept chewing it.
Even the administrative AI had been dragged into Green’s pace and started loafing around ‘legally.’
Then, breaking the office’s silence, a dull metallic sound came from beyond the door.
“Is anyone there? We’re from the Main Office’s Resource Efficiency Inspection Bureau. A power backflow anomaly has been detected in Room 402, so we’ll be conducting a regular inspection.”
Han-gyeol’s expression hardened.
A jungle-turned office, a shining child, and an android assistant openly sleeping beside it.
It was the moment he began to have no idea how to explain this chaos to the inspector.
Inspector V-9, dispatched from the Administration Building’s Resource Efficiency Inspection Bureau, was an android with a silver shell as smooth as a mirror, truly an embodiment of efficiency.
The moment the automatic door of Room 402 opened, he had to doubt his own optical sensors.
“……Bzzzt. Computational error. Match rate with the Sector 1 standard office blueprint: 0.02%. Administrator, is this space currently an office, or an unauthorized ecological laboratory?”
Every time V-9’s feet touched the soft moss floor, an illogical ‘squish’ sound came out.
Han-gyeol sat at an angle on the desk, about to spit out his gum, but after seeing the inspector’s stern look, he kept chewing and acted relaxed.
“Ah, Inspector. Have you heard of the trendy ‘bio-organic tech office’ these days? This was all built to improve work efficiency.”
“The boss is right.”
Noah, awakened from power-saving mode, got up in a sleepy motion and backed him up.
“According to analysis, the phytoncides emitted by the green plants and Green’s frequency reduce an android’s computational noise by 12%. Right now, Room 402 is the most [low-power, high-efficiency] space in Sector 3 of the branch office.”
V-9 rotated his scanner in disbelief.
Then Green, who had been rolling around with the butterfly in the corner, came over to the inspector holding a handful of brightly glowing LED berries.
With an innocent face, Green placed the fruit on V-9’s silver hand.
“……Analyzing unidentified organic matter. Ingredients: highly concentrated carbohydrates, chlorophyll extract, and…… bzzzt! Trace amounts of caffeine and taurine?”
Without thinking, V-9 put one of the fruits into his analysis intake port.
In an instant, the silver android’s whole body trembled, and its optic sensors flashed like psychedelic lights.
“Th-this taste……! It matches the [legendary stimulant] recorded in the archive from 600 years ago! System boost achieved at 300%! My processor…… my processor is dancing!”
It was a ‘natural energy drink’ fruit that Green had concentrated by feeding on fiber optics and electricity.
V-9’s rigid logic circuits were swept up in exhilaration in an instant, and his stiff silver joints began to loosen smoothly.
“Inspector, don’t push yourself too hard. Lie down on the moss sofa here. It’s the best spot, I tell you.”
At Han-gyeol’s suggestion, V-9 said, “Just a moment…… for analysis…… I will lie down……” and threw his body onto the moss floor.
The moment he lay down, Green’s vines gently wrapped around the inspector’s cold metal body, and the butterfly settled on his chest, happily sharing electricity.
Ten minutes later, V-9, who had been the Administration Building’s staunchest rule-follower, fell into a deep power-saving mode with a faint smile on his lips—metal though they were.
Noah watched the scene and wrote a report on her pad.
Watching the silver-gray sky at sunset, Han-gyeol put one of the berries Green had handed him into his mouth.
A taste far sweeter and cooler than the harsh energy drinks he used to drink on the battlefield 600 years ago lingered on the tip of his tongue.
“Hey, Noah. This is paradise, isn’t it?”
“I agree with your illogical statement this time, boss. But I do object to berry juice getting on my pink paint.”
Earth was fine, and the city was precise.
But on the moss floor of Room 402, humans and robots, a plant child and a cat were all mixed together, enjoying a nap sweeter than paradise.
A little later, having finished rapid charging, Inspector V-9 sprang to his feet like a spring.
His silver optic glow was no longer plain white, but a luminous jade green mixed with Green’s energy.
V-9 bent and straightened each of his finger joints, letting out mechanical sounds filled with admiration.
“……Bzzzt. Incredible. It’s not just the power level that has gone up. The friction coefficient of my internal computation engine is approaching zero. This isn’t just a fruit—it’s on the level of [digital drugs] permitted to machine intelligences.”
“Hey, that’s a bit much calling it drugs. It’s just some natural vitamins.”
When Han-gyeol replied while chewing his gum, V-9 politely bowed.
The fussiness that had just been pointing out the office’s unauthorized expansion was nowhere to be seen.
Instead, he began praising the vines stretching out into the corners of the office as ‘artistic wiring.’
Beside him, Noah picked up one of the LED berries set in Green’s hair and seriously ran an optical scan.
The berry’s light, caught on her pink fingertips, reflected off Noah’s outer plates and created an outrageously dazzling light show.
“Boss, I propose breeding this fruit into a [neon pink berry]. The current pale purple is far too calm administratively. If the whole city were dyed in this pink light, androids’ work efficiency would rise by 200%, and it would achieve perfect unity with my outer paint.”
“Don’t even dream about it. Don’t go changing what comes out of the kid’s head to suit your tastes.”
Even after Han-gyeol’s firm refusal, Noah didn’t care and stayed busy taking selfies (data logs) with the berry’s light.
Han-gyeol scratched his shortened back hair and looked at the bizarre scene.
In the city of 2851 ruled by the machine god NOS, it was hard to believe that the Administration Building, which should have been the most efficient structure, was filled with such inefficient, illogical vitality.
Just before leaving, Inspector V-9 approached Green and carefully waved.
Green answered by flickering the LED berries at the ends of their hair.
“I will record today’s inspection report as follows: [The power backflow in Room 402 is a ‘safety valve’ that prevents overload in the city system, and an emotional charging station needed by machines]. Boss, once in a while…… when my battery runs out, may I come back?”
“Well, the berries are free, so come anytime. Just bring a pack of gum with you.”
At Han-gyeol’s flat reply, V-9 disappeared into the hallway looking satisfied.
The office returned to its peaceful chaos of just the four of them.
Thanks to the excess static electricity it had sucked in from V-9, the butterfly had swelled to twice its size and rolled across the moss carpet, while Green, curious about their own glowing fruit, was plucking them one by one and secretly stuffing them into Noah’s bag.
Han-gyeol sank deeply into his chair.
The silver-gray sky outside the window still looked cold, but the pale purple light pouring out from Room 402 was warmer than any sun.
Paradise was precise, and the system was perfect.
But this quirky everyday life, which cracked a small fissure in that perfection and bloomed from it, might be the ‘real life’ Han-gyeol had wanted to find after crossing 600 years.
“Noah, should we make some juice from those berries tomorrow? Tell Paul to bring over a blender.”
“Boss, organic juice production is outside the scope of administrative work…… but I’ll specially approve it as [assistant snack-production protocol]. Of course, mine has to be served in a pink cup.”
Instead of answering, Han-gyeol yawned broadly and closed his eyes.
And so, spring in 2851 deepened—utterly illogical, and utterly peaceful.
