I was forcibly dragged to the dance hall by Prince Keith.
“There is Sister Margaret.”
The vast hall was decorated with flowers, and about a dozen people were performing graceful dances to live music.
Chairs were lined up along the edge of the hall, where Princess Margaret sat with her schoolmates. She looked angry; she had an aura that made me want to stay far away. And yet, Prince Keith—either not noticing or not caring—headed straight toward her.
“Sister, Patience and I have finished helping the Student Council.”
Once I part ways with Prince Keith and the others, I’ll ask Princess Margaret for permission to head back to the dormitory.
“My, Keith, thank you for your hard work. Now, go on and dance.”
I waited for a moment for Prince Keith to leave the area. It seems my hunch was right: the third recital for new songs had indeed led to a spat with the Chorus Club.
“If they truly had any love for music, they would wait even if the time ran a little over,” Margaret remarked.
Princess Margaret’s love for music is deep. But, well, schedules are schedules.
“Honestly, the Chorus Club should just be disbanded,” Catherine added boldly. I thought to myself that if the Music Club got disbanded for breaking the rules, I wouldn’t be surprised.
“Does a club even have a purpose if all they do is perform choruses of old songs?”
Even the usually quiet Liliana was angry. That’s rare.
“The soloist was terrible, too.”
Harriet has such a sweet vibe, but as expected, her tongue is the sharpest.
It was a total festival of insults, and there was no room for me to interject. Even the boys who looked like they wanted to ask the four of them to dance seemed hesitant to approach. Only Prince Keith would draw near without noticing the dark clouds.
However, noticing the boy she liked from the Knight Club, Harriet closed her mouth and began to smile.
“Everyone, it’s Lord Percival.”
“My, he is as wonderful as ever.”
Liliana nodded in agreement. I looked toward the Percival they were staring at. He was certainly handsome. Though, if I recall, the winner of the tournament was Captain Eric.
Since the three of them began to smile elegantly, the dark clouds vanished.
“Princess Margaret, may I have the honor of a dance?”
The three girls watched with slight envy as Margaret stood up and left with Percival. Soon, however, more boys came to invite them, and they all began dancing on the floor.
Alright, the moment Princess Margaret returns to her seat, I’ll get permission to retire to my room!
I was waiting for the perfect timing, but I missed my chance.
“Let’s dance.”
Prince Keith, seemingly taking pity on me as a wallflower, came to invite me.
“I’m not very good at dancing.”
He seemed to take my response as mere modesty.
“I am well aware of that. But it will be a problem if the Princess’s lady-in-waiting cannot at least dance. You will have to accompany her to parties, after all.”
I felt a wave of exhaustion at the idea that my role as lady-in-waiting was already set in stone for such future events.
Prince Keith is a very good dancer. I suppose the Palace must have excellent dance instructors.
“With a bit more practice, you’ll become quite good. Ralph, you dance with her next.”
Wait, I wanted to go back to my room and work on my side job… but dancing with a skilled partner is actually fun. I’ve memorized the steps, and as long as the lead is good, it’s a breeze.
After dancing a few times with Prince Keith, Ralph, and Hugo, I finally caught Princess Margaret while she was taking a break.
“I was just thinking it’s about time to head back to my room.”
Wait, it’s already dinner time. I was surprised I had been dancing for that long.
“I was thinking the same thing.”
I returned to the dormitory with Princess Margaret. The dance hall was still lively, but I was exhausted.
“Patience, you said you were bad at dancing, but you danced quite well.”
I was happy to be praised, but it didn’t end there.
“If you work a little harder at dance, you might be able to get a Certificate of Completion. If you have extra time, you’ll be able to compose even more new songs.”
Princess Margaret is truly music-obsessed to the core. However, I’m fairly certain I won’t be getting a certificate for dancing that relies entirely on someone else’s lead.
