Princess Mia of Desnim was absolutely seething.
She stomped through the well-manicured courtyard of the Royal Palace, her heavy footsteps echoing her indignation.
“That philandering man… how dare he touch so many other ladies while I was pregnant! It’s unforgivable! Well, I’ve made sure every single one of those thieving cats was disowned.”
With a flick of her power, everything went exactly as she wished. Through years of experience, Mia knew this to be the fundamental truth of her world.
After all, she was the biological child of the Queen, the most powerful person in the country.
However, love was the one thing she couldn’t control. Despite his foolish antics, Mia simply couldn’t let go of Robin.
Still, she could vaguely sense that the current situation was not good.
Malicious rumors about Mia and Robin had begun to spread throughout the palace.
‘How disrespectful. I’ve fired them the moment I catch them… but the backlash from the civil servants is particularly noisy.’
Since Nazelbert, who possessed superior administrative skills, had gone to the frontier, the efficiency of the government’s work had reportedly suffered.
Mia had initially thought they were exaggerating—surely the loss of a single Duke’s son wouldn’t matter—but the fact was that various operations were grinding to a halt.
Worse yet, because she had shoved Robin into the positions Nazelbert once held, the workload for everyone around him had actually increased.
‘Robin is a bit of a dummy, so he’s not good at work. But that’s exactly why I feel such a sense of kinship with him.’
Mia had long harbored an inferiority complex toward the high-achieving Nazelbert.
Things she had struggled and toiled to build up, he would bypass effortlessly and naturally. The numerous occasions where she felt humiliated had torn her pride to shreds.
When they first met, she thought he was a handsome, quiet man—a fitting consort.
But as they spent time together as fiancé and fiancée, the overly serious Nazelbert, who immersed himself in royal consort education, became boring.
The gap between him and Mia, who frequently skipped her queenly lessons, only grew wider.
Every time people whispered that “Nazelbert was chosen as her fiancé to compensate for the Princess’s lack of ability,” Mia grew to hate him more.
Those amber eyes that looked like a doll’s, impossible to read. A man with rigid principles who couldn’t be drawn into her side like the sycophants in her inner circle.
In every possible way, he was a mismatch for her.
In that regard, Robin—who was stupider than her but possessed a certain low cunning—was much easier to be around.
He was a type rarely found among the nobility; he never bored her when they spoke, and he was the only one who would whisper sweet, carefree words to her.
For Mia, who knew nothing but the palace, Robin, who taught her about the outside world, was a breath of fresh air.
Recently, her mother, the Queen, had started saying nonsensical things—like demoting Robin to the role of a lover and making Nazelbert the official Royal Consort once again.
“Aaaaaagh! It makes me so angry!”
Why did she have to go through such a tedious charade? But even for Mia, she couldn’t defy her mother.
Especially not after she had to clean up the mess Mia made with the engagement annulment.
‘Hmph, he’ll just be a consort in name only. I’ll shove all the work onto Nazelbert, and I can live freely with Robin. If that’s the case, I’ll have to make him divorce that Potato Lady.’
The opponent was just a potato, so Nazelbert surely wouldn’t have any lingering attachments, but the paperwork would be a hassle.
“I’ll just pair the Potato Lady with some suitable man… like the former fiancé of one of those disowned ladies, or some widower, and then I’ll pluck Nazelbert away. As for the frontier lord, I’ll just exile some annoying noble who criticizes me to that post instead. Ugh, the thought of facing Nazelbert again is so depressing. I feel so gloomy~.”
Mia left the care of her newborn child entirely to a wet nurse.
That was simply how child-rearing was done for the royalty of Desnim, and since Mia herself hated the idea of parenting, she had no desire to do it. Playing with Robin was much more fun.
‘Let’s just get the annoying things over with quickly. Then, I want to be healed by Robin’s magic.’
His magic was special; it would gently purify the weakened parts of her heart.
Returning to her room, Mia took up her pen and began writing a letter addressed to Nazelbert.
