That place was, quite literally, a battlefield.
All around them, kobolds and adventurers were clashing, and the kobolds were being hunted down almost one-sidedly.
Naturally. In a collision between numbers and numbers, the side with greater ability was bound to win.
Most of those here were capable adventurers.
When that many of them were gathered together, even ambushes lost their meaning.
There were moments when the occasional Hobkobold that appeared would scatter the adventurers, but other adventurers would swarm it immediately and it would be hunted down in no time.
“…This is kind of incredible.”
“At this rate, it won’t be long before they stop coming out of their holes.”
When Orphe did not say they would be wiped out completely, Kikori felt a slight bad premonition and asked her about it.
“Ah… could it be that there are actually a huge number of them underground?”
“…If we’re only talking about total numbers, isn’t it outrageous?”
That was chilling.
If Orphe—if a fairy—called it “outrageous,” then at the very least it had to be over a thousand.
Naturally, there would be many Hobkobolds among them, and there might even be things stronger than that.
And all of that was beneath this plain.
“Let’s get through here quickly. Right, or left…”
Going straight ahead was not an option. That area should still be under the wyverns’ control.
He did not know which choice was correct.
He did not even know whether there was such a thing as a correct answer to begin with.
After thinking for just a moment… Kikori started walking to the left.
“Do you have a reason for choosing left?”
“No, not really… but I remembered something called the left-hand rule.”
“What’s that?”
“No, I don’t remember it well… but I think it was some sort of rule for getting out of a labyrinth.”
“Huh. Well, whatever works, I guess.”
What exactly had the “left-hand rule” been, anyway?
It was only the vague sort of knowledge that made him think he had heard something like that in his previous life, so there was a good chance he was mistaken.
Still, something like this was only ever going to come down to relying on instinct.
No matter which one he chose, there was never going to be any true right answer.
Hell, or an even worse hell.
If he had to put it into words, the difference was probably only about that much.
“GAAAAAAAH!”
Kikori split the attacking kobold apart with a single blow of his axe.
Was it because he had faced a wyvern?
He could no longer think of kobolds as all that much of a threat.
“Let’s go, Orphe.”
“Yes, let’s.”
Walking on, Kikori advanced across the Kobold Plains together with Orphe.
He did not pay much attention to the battles unfolding around them. They simply did not concern him.
Even if he did care, all it would do was make both sides annoyed that they were getting in each other’s way. That was the adventurer’s code.
Unless someone was in truly serious trouble, no one wanted help from others.
And so, the two of them passed through the “left” Transfer Gate of the Kobold Plains.
The sight spread out before them beyond it was… deeply falling snow, and a pure white snowscape.
