When Kikori entered the Adventurers’ Guild, he spotted the usual receptionist.

It seemed to be a quiet time, and she looked bored. As Kikori approached her counter, he smiled.

“Hello, Irene-san.”

At having her name called, the receptionist… Irene, looked a little surprised, then smiled back.

“Yes, hello, Kikori-san. Are you done for the day already?”

“I made a decent amount, so I figured I’d cash in.”

“Magic stones, then. Let me see.”

What Kikori produced were two horned-rabbit magic stones, five goblin magic stones, and one orc magic stone.

When the orc’s magic stone rolled out at the end, Irene’s face stiffened in shock.

“Huh? That size is… Kikori-san, what on earth did you defeat?”

“An orc. Mirgu-san at the weapon shop told me to report it too, but… that orc was killing goblins in a place relatively close to the Hero Gate.”

Irene fell silent as if turning his words over, and after a moment replied, “I see…”

“Did anything else unusual happen?”

“No, not really.”

“I think it was probably an individual that wandered out out of curiosity, but we’ll investigate on our end as well. Thank you for the report.”

“No…”

“Then your buyback total is 17,000 yen.”

“So the orc one is 10,000 yen?”

“That’s right. It means a large magic stone is worth more than gathering small magic stones.”

‘I see.’

If that was the case, Kikori could understand why stronger adventurers went deeper in.

Still, for the current Kikori, it was probably more realistic to defeat ten goblins than to take down one orc.

“There are various requests posted on the wall as well. Some pay well, so I recommend checking regularly.”

“Thank you.”

With a small bow, Kikori headed down the stairs before even looking at the wall of requests.

Down there, the idle-looking Aria spotted Kikori and broke into a bright smile.

“Oh, Kikori. Welcome back.”

“Hello, Aria-san.”

“You’re not on the verge of death today. Good, good.”

“I thought I might die when I ran into an orc, though…”

“An orc!? Wait, but you’re alive, so you managed to escape safely, then?”

“I defeated it. By luck, though.”

At Kikori’s report, Aria went blank for a moment… then stood up and patted over Kikori’s body.

“Yeah, you don’t look like you have any visible injuries…”

“Yes. And Mirgu-san recommended it too, so I was thinking I might buy a new weapon.”

“That might be a good idea. I’d been worried about that axe too.”
