After checking a few requests, Kikori headed back to the Mirgu Weapon Shop.

Mirgu, who had been yawning like he had nothing to do, raised his voice with a “Hm?” when he saw Kikori.

“A single-bladed battle axe, huh. More importantly, that’s one of my shop’s items.”

“Oh, is it?”

“Yeah. It was one I had on consignment. If that’s the case, you should’ve asked me—I would’ve talked it through with you.”

“Sorry about that.”

“Nah, it’s fine. You probably owed Aria a favor too.”

As he spoke, Mirgu took the old axe Kikori held out.

“So you came to sell the old one.”

“Yes. Um… can you buy it?”

“Hm. Well, selling it is the right call. Like I said earlier, this thing’s about at its limit.”

Mirgu lightly stroked the axe and nodded.

“Mm.”

“Honestly, it probably would’ve chipped the next time you so much as hit a tree. The handle’s pretty much at its limit too. It already looked old, so you could say it can’t be helped, but…”

“It was something I got from someone…”

“I see. Well, I’ll add a little extra and buy it for 400 yen.”

“Thank you.”

“No problem. So? While you’re here, gonna buy anything else?”

“Hm… I was thinking I should do something about my defense a bit more.”

Looking over the armor lined up, Kikori thought.

He really did want to strengthen his defense a bit more.

But after hearing what Aria said, he hesitated to buy chain mail.

And that was assuming he could even afford it…

“About that. I’ve got something that’s just right.”

“Huh?”

Following Mirgu, Kikori was shown something hanging in the shop that looked like clothing.

It looked like a slightly thick garment… but what was it, exactly?

“It’s cloth armor. Basically, a fabric cuirass.”

“Fabric armor?”

Kikori thought it might be like cut-resistant clothing. He was pretty sure something like that had existed in his previous life.

“If you wear it, it’ll handle weak slashes and light thrusts well enough. And as a bonus, it’s a bit tougher because it’s cloth woven from thread made out of monster hair.”

“It sounds amazing, but isn’t it expensive?”

“That’s what you’d think, right? But this one’s 2,000 yen.”

“So it’s still kind of pricey, huh.”

As Kikori nodded, Mirgu let out an exasperated,

“Hey, hey.”

“Let me tell you—this is insanely cheap. It’s priced like that because it mixes all kinds of leftover monster hair. Normally, if you tried to buy something like this, it’d cost more than double.”

“So it’s a ‘with-issues’ item?”

“It’s not that bad. If anything, it’s more like staff food.”

“I see… I’ll take it.”

“Good. That’s the right call.”

Kikori wasn’t the type to obsess over luxury goods or standardized products.

If he could get something good for cheap, that was obviously best.

That was just how he thought.
