With a lurch, the large goblin toppled backward.
In Kikori’s experience, he had not yet met a monster that stayed alive after its head was split open.
Even if it was a large goblin, the same should be true.
Still, there was always the “just in case.” Holding his axe ready and circling wide around the large goblin… Kikori fixed his gaze on the staff goblin.
The staff goblin, which had been looking back and forth between the fallen large goblin and Kikori, pointed its staff at Kikori and shouted something.
But when it realized nothing came out, it let out a scream-like “Gii!” and turned to run.
For an instant, Kikori thought it might be a trap.
But when the axe Kikori threw sank into the staff goblin and it collapsed, he realized it was not.
“H-haha. No way… that magic from before… it can only be used twice?”
That made sense. If it could cast magic endlessly… something that painful… that would be absurdly unfair.
Anything convenient and strong came with some kind of restriction. That was the law of the world.
Kikori approached the staff goblin with the axe lodged in it… and when he saw it was already dead, he let out a laugh.
“I won. I actually won. Haha… I might start mistaking myself for strong.”
Even though that could not be true. He did not have the ability to properly beat an orc, not even close.
He could not afford to get carried away just because he had beaten a slightly bigger goblin, or a goblin that could use a bit of magic.
Kikori collected the magic stones and picked up the staff and axe. When he thought he would finally head back, he noticed that some weapons were missing.
“The bow’s gone…”
The club was gone too. Could there be other goblins that had come and taken them?
There was no room for carelessness, but the fact that a goblin had stealthily come by and carried off weapons still sent a chill down Kikori’s spine.
“Goblins are something else. They’ve got more guts than I do, don’t they…?”
Really, what would have happened if that large goblin and that staff goblin had been among the ones he fought earlier?
The staff goblin’s magic would have created a fatal opening for Kikori, and the large goblin alone might have been all he could handle.
Even the arrow he fired had not hit, and Kikori had little besides thrown knives and his axe.
He had used a club too, but swinging his axe hit far harder.
And his thrown knife had only been good enough to get knocked aside even by that large goblin.
“…”
In other words, Kikori’s only effective option was basically the axe.
And at the orc level, even that stopped working.
So he had to look for some other means… and what came to mind was the magic the staff goblin had used.
If he could use that, would it work on an orc too?
“Magic… could I use it too?”
He would ask Aria, Kikori thought. That was what was on his mind.
