“Original spells, huh?”

“Yeah, they’re in this book. Let’s see… Gungnir, Gram, Surtr Blade…”

“They sound amazing.”

Nodding, Kikori thought,

‘That is definitely a reincarnator.’

And the fact that he named spells after mythological weapons made it pretty clear he must have been extremely confident in his mana.

“Want to take a look? They’re famous as spells that basically nobody else can reproduce properly.”

In the book titled A Study of Hero Shou, there were various notes about the spells he had developed.

Gungnir, a spell that launched a gigantic magical spear and caused a massive explosion at the impact point.

How to use: Imagine a spear that shatters the target, pour mana into it, and release it.

Note: Believed to be a derivative of the same-type spell, Bombs Lance.

Gram, a spell that released a magical blade to slice the enemy apart.

How to use: Picture cutting the target apart, pour mana into it, and release it.

Note: Believed to be a derivative of the same-type spell, Magic Saber.

Surtr Blade, a spell that brought down a gigantic blade of flame.

How to use: Same as above.

Note: This spell was believed to be based on a concept unique to the hero.

Also, even at the time this work was written, the origin of the term “Surtr” had not been clarified.

‘…Yeah, definitely a reincarnator. But still…’

Still, was not the gap between him and Kikori way too huge?

Having so much mana you could call existing spells “original spells” without shame—he was insanely jealous.

If Kikori had something that he could take that much pride in, he probably would not have come to resent his past-life memories.

“It kind of feels like the only way to use magic is: imagine it, pour mana into it, and release it.”

“And that’s why it isn’t very helpful. People often say magic is about imagination, but it leans too hard into imagination and doesn’t account for stability.”

“Uh…”

“Even if it’s the same motion of swinging a sword, there’s a difference in stability between street brawling and proper swordsmanship, right?”

“Ah, I get it. But doesn’t that mean you don’t really need it?”

“In the absolute sense, sure. If you can use it, that’s what matters.”

Aria and Kikori nodded along, though it was also true that the two of them were a rather unusual pair.

After all, the city even had dojos that properly taught martial arts meant specifically for fighting monsters.

…Well, since the founder was an adventurer, you could not deny it was still a derivative of street brawling.

“So, since I’m not that smart, it sounds like I’m better off using imagination.”

“Some people go that route sometimes. I’m more on the imagination side too, actually.”

As they talked and flipped through the pages, they came across a spell that went in a slightly unusual direction compared to these flashy, spectacle-focused spells.

“Sword Breaker…”

“Oh, some people use that sometimes. It’s relatively easy to reproduce. Well, you can guess how good the effect is, though.”
