And somehow, Kikori and Kuon managed to haul the Big Goblin’s corpse all the way to the Hero Gate.
The guards had been startled by the approaching sled, but as Kikori and the others came up to the front of the Hero Gate, one of them ran over.
“Is this… an anomalously evolved specimen!?”
“Yes, probably.”
“Its hide was hard enough to bat away the axe Kikori there’s carrying. If something like this wasn’t deeper in, I’d say there’s no mistake.”
“I… see…”
The guard who had been staring intently at the Big Goblin’s corpse shifted his gaze to the skull necklace hanging on its chest.
“This… is a goblin skull, isn’t it?”
“Huh, it is?”
“Yeah. I’ve seen some idiot selling that kind of thing somewhere.”
While wondering what kind of idiot that could be, Kikori and Kuon exchanged looks, too scared to ask.
No matter how you thought about it, it wasn’t a normal shop.
“Huh… a freakishly huge goblin wearing a goblin-skull necklace, huh… Yeah, that’s definitely an anomalously evolved specimen.”
“Is that how it works?”
“Yeah. Normally, they don’t kill their own kind. If it does, it means something in its head snapped.”
After saying that, the guard noticed something odd about the pristine Big Goblin corpse and let out a “Huh?”
“…Come to think of it, this corpse was unusually clean. How’d you kill it?”
“My magic. It was my trump card, though.”
“Got it. Then I won’t ask for details.”
“Is that okay?”
“It’s etiquette. But that kind of special method could become something people point to and suspect you with later, if anything happens. Watch yourself.”
“…Yes.”
Kikori understood what the guard meant.
If a perfectly clean corpse with not a single wound showed up, Kikori—who could use “that kind of magic”—might be the one suspected.
He wouldn’t hesitate to use it if something happened… but he should think carefully about when to use it.
“For now… yeah. No point having you two march through town dragging something like this… you’re heading to the Adventurers’ Guild, right?”
“Yes.”
“Then I’ll have them come here. Wait a bit.”
“Huh? Is that really okay?”
“It’s fine. Unless you want to pick up extra trouble on the way.”
Once he put it like that, neither Kikori nor Kuon could possibly say, “We’ll carry it ourselves.”
…More than anything, they were exhausted.
If people from the Adventurers’ Guild were going to come and handle it, that was obviously best.
One of the guards ran off to the Adventurers’ Guild… and before long, he returned with several male staff members.
“T-this is…! You kids found this!?”
“We took it down ourselves.”
