The Bad Guy Bro on the other end of the call fell silent for a few seconds.
Without asking Du Dandan why or who the other party was, Su Pingnan said only one word.
“Location.”
Du Dandan, having hung up the phone in a daze, was somewhat flustered — she hadn’t told Su Pingnan that the person beating her friends up was this Brother Dao guy. What should she do now?
“Finished your call?”
Brother Dao was a manly guy. He dragged a chair over and sat down with a swagger reminiscent of those handsome gangsters on TV, though the flabby skin on his wide face ruined the effect.
“Mhm.”
Du Dandan nodded.
Li Dao laughed arrogantly and said, “I was in a good mood today and would have let you clean up and get out. But since you didn’t take the hint and would rather fight, don’t blame me if you get hurt.”
Just as Du Dandan was about to speak, the roar of cars nearby drew her attention.
Five black hardcore SUVs parked side by side, blocking the restaurant entrance. The doors opened and men in black suits filed out one after another, silently entering the restaurant in single file.
When Su Pingnan took the call he was in Tiandu. Various production lines for the electronic arcade machines were in final testing. Li Mingyi, Zhang Lihua and several others had already headed over too— Jinxiu Group was going all out to run this arcade machine project. He was a bit stretched thin, so he had to send Yang Qianli to handle it.
The restaurant manager had a look of dismay on his face. More than twenty people in black marching in were imposing yet they were also eerily quiet, making anyone who saw them feel uneasy.
Some diners had already slipped away secretly. The manager dared not yell at them and kept trying to smooth things over in front of Yang Qianli.
Yang Qianli’s face was cold. He turned to stare straight at the sweating manager, “Don’t speak — no noise.”
Having said that, he walked straight to Du Dandan by the phone and asked, “Du Dandan? Brother Nan asked me to come help you.”
Du Dandan felt relieved as if she’d had a delicious ice cream on a sweltering day. Those men had scared her earlier, and upon hearing this, she immediately and adorably nodded vigorously.
Li Dao was so frightened he didn’t even notice the burning cigarette fall onto his trousers. His heart pounded nonstop. He glanced back at the other men with him who had participated in the fight earlier. They were all pale and trembling.
He was also a local bully in South Gate and even used to be one of Gate God Jiang’s underlings. He had gone to the rescue team’s cleanup that day — the sight of the imposing Jiang Qingsheng turned into a bloody mess made him vomit for three days afterward.
“Brother Qianli, it’s a misunderstanding, a misunderstanding,” Li Dao spat out with difficulty, feeling his throat hoarse as if phlegm were blocking it.
Yang Qianli ignored Li Dao and cut off Du Dandan’s explanation. “When we came, Brother Nan instructed us: don’t ask about right or wrong. We only help kin, not reason.”
Du Dandan seemed struck by something. A flush appeared on her pretty, cute face — she finally understood Su Pingnan’s domineering presence.
“Regardless of right or wrong, we help kin, not reason.” Those ten words struck Du Dandan’s sensitive young heart. Her eyes reddened and tears began to fall softly.
Yang Qianli turned and said to a thin tall man, “Bring me my bag.”
With Jinxiu Group’s rapid expansion, the power of the people under Su Pingnan was also ballooning. It was only because Su Pingnan usually kept them tightly restrained and away from anything shady. Otherwise, given their character, who knew what trouble they’d cause.
“Manager, come here.”
Yang Qianli took a thick stack from his bag and tossed it into the manager’s arms.
Then he bowed slightly to the few timid customers who hadn’t slipped away and said, “Sorry to disturb you. Tonight, Jinxiu Group will pick up your tab. Please leave for the night.”
The manager held the thick wad of cash, not knowing what to do for a moment, muttering, “Too much, far too much.”
Yang Qianli coldly glanced at Li Dao, whose face was already ashen, his words edged with menace, “Not too much.”
“Alright, alright.” The pudgy manager, seeing there was no room left for him to smooth things over, gave an awkward smile and stepped back.
The once lively restaurant quieted down in no time. There was only the sound of the girls who were supporting three young men sobbing softly.
Du Dandan stared at the dozens of rugged young men waiting wordlessly for her decision, and suddenly felt at a loss.
She was just a delicate girl who had barely left university. And after noticing the pleading expression in Brother Dao’s eyes, the same man who had been arrogant moments before, how could she harden her heart?
Yang Qianli said nothing either. When he got the call from Su Pingnan, the instructions had been very stern.
“Qianli, when you go help, don’t ask about right or wrong — follow Du Dandan on everything.”
“Okay, so how hard do we bash the guy?”
Su Pingnan sighed deeply. “Qianli, what I need is not that you fight bravely, but that you press forward courageously.”
“Understood.”
Yang Qianli could feel Brother Red Robe’s expectations of him, and he nodded.
“Remember, we’re businessmen. We don’t fear those underworld ways, and we don’t use them.”
Lou Wang watched Du Dandan anxiously, wishing he could be her. He wanted those guys to pay ten times over for what they did. But Yang Qianli and his group hadn’t even spared him a glance when they came in, they only followed Du Dandan’s lead. Filled with hatred, he dared not speak and could only frantically signal at Du Dandan with his eyes.
And of course, Li Dao and the others could see that their fates now rested in the hands of this fair girl whose emotions were easily swayed.
Li Dao gritted his teeth, suddenly grabbed the bottle on the table, closed his eyes, and smashed it down hard against his own head.
