Yu Isshiki

Freshman, Department of Information and Computer Science, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Joto University

The protagonist. Plain-looking and of average intelligence, he was a substitute on his high school basketball team. He met his girlfriend, Karen Mitsumoto, through the university circle; Kamokura and Toko are also members. An only child, he still lives at home in Makuhari, Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture.

Despite his vanity and womanizing reputation, he’s surprisingly attentive and reliable. A former high school soccer player who still plays futsal, he was also a festival-band vocalist with fans beyond his school. He’s been pursuing Toko since high school. Originally from Narashino City, he now shares an apartment in Kinshicho with his older brother.

Karen Mitsumoto

Yu’s girlfriend, currently cheating with Kamokura. Ranked among the “Top 3 Cutest Girls in the Circle,” she presents an impish (koakuma) persona—airy and slightly ditzy—but harbors a darker side. She lives at home in Koshigaya City, Saitama Prefecture.

Junpei Nakazaki

Honoka Sakurajima

Setting & Context

Joto University:
A fictional private comprehensive university in western Tokyo, academically ranked alongside prestigious schools like Waseda (Takada) and Keio (Keirei)—often referred to collectively as “Taka-Kei-Joto.” A Catholic university known for its on-campus chapel, it also houses unique departments such as Theology and Global Studies in addition to standard faculties. The campus is set in a fictional area between Nakano and Koenji.

Circle “Waki-Ai-Ai”:
Originally an outdoor club for trekking and camping, it has evolved into a general events circle that does a bit of everything. Founded by alumni of Prefectural Kaihin Makuhari High School, many current members come from that school. The circle’s current president is Junpei Nakazaki.

Chiba Prefectural Kaihin Makuhari High School:
A fictional prefectural high school in the Kaihin Makuhari district of Chiba City, it’s a top-tier college-prep school ranked just below the elite Chiba and Funabashi Prefectural High Schools and is active in sports. It’s the alma mater of the main cast.
