“Okay, even I’m worn out after that one…”
Centipede: defeated.
145 rounds expended. 20 minutes of combat. After I took that one hit, I switched to a kiting style (you shoot while backing away), which is why it dragged on as long as it did.
Now then. Time to take stock of the haul.
“Whoa! There’s something in here that looks amazing.”
The ‘!’ mark must mean a rare drop. Let’s check the details on the Dust Mirage.
This. Is. Strong!
For a Sniper, a boost to Stealth is huge. On the status screen, Radar and Stealth work like attack power and defense power for enemy detection: when your Radar value exceeds another unit’s Stealth value, that unit’s position shows up on your radar (detection range: a 250 m radius).
A Sniper conceals herself and lines up her shot. That is exactly why Stealth matters so much. Multiplying it by 1.5 across the board, and by 2.5 on sand, is an enormous gain.
And me, of all people, pulling a rare drop! I’m so happy I could scream!
I’ll slot it into my armaments right away. Next I pull up the details on the SCH-100, or S100 for short.
Custom?
I take the manual out of my item pouch and read.
‘~ On Customization ~’
‘A weapon with a “+” in its weapon name can be Plus Customized. A Plus Custom requires an “XX Part”, such as a “Damage Part”. One Part raises a stat by +1, and you may Plus Custom up to a weapon’s Custom Capacity. The stats each Part raises are listed below.’
Ohh, I see! So I can tinker with a weapon’s stats.
The Parts I got from killing the small fry around here are Damage Parts (Power up), Spread Parts (Expandability up), Bullet Parts (Ammo Count up), and Chase Parts (Tracking up). I went to customize on the spot, only to find out you can’t do it anywhere but a base. Shame. For now, I’ll equip the saber as well.
Last, the Debug Kits. They look like consumables that cure status ailments. Quietly important.
Now then. The boss is down, so it’s about time I started looking for a way home.
Respawning… is absolutely out. Up until the boss fight it was on the table, but I have a rare drop now, and a genuinely useful piece of gear at that. Not a chance.
That leaves getting another Space Girl to let me ride along on her spaceship… ugh. Arranging that would mean a certain amount of communication would have to occur.
Hmm. What to do. Maybe I should just PK someone and take a spaceship.
“No, no… Bolting straight for PK the moment you’re in trouble is a bad habit. You got burned for that in your last game, didn’t you.”
Maybe the manual has a solution for a situation like this. Let’s give it a read.
The instant I pull the manual back out, letters surface across my field of vision.
“Huh?”
A system message follows.
“…”
Let me explain my current situation, simply and without mincing words.
Real-world me: six minutes from wetting myself.
