“Why am I alive?”

Sereina, the Red Dragon who miraculously survived, looked around in a daze.

“Ugh, don’t be ridiculous! This can’t be happening!”

At that moment, a Red Dragon suddenly flew at full speed, seemingly aiming for Sereina.

“Garud! What are you doing!”

The Elder of the Red Dragons frowned. El cast a spell towards the incoming dragon.

A massive flame exploded in front of the approaching dragon.

Boom!

The Red Dragon, startled by the burst of energy, retreated far away. It was important not to kill it to clear up any misunderstandings.

However, the situation was a bit unexpected. I thought it would be Veint coming, but it was a completely different one.

’Were there more involved in this?’

Anyway, El couldn’t miss this opportunity. He had to clear his name first.

Because it was for Rurin’s peace.

Thinking of Rurin’s mother, El didn’t want to put even a speck of false blame on Rurin.

El endured this injustice and tried to clear up misunderstandings for that very reason.

“Elder, did you see that? That dragon’s behavior is like it’s feeling guilty. Sereina, you must be confused right after coming back to life, but this is important. The one who attacked you is the culprit, right? With the Elder of your clan here, you should speak clearly. I hope you’ll tell the truth. Don’t forget that I’m the one who saved you.”

“The Elder…?”

Sereina still seemed unable to grasp the situation and looked around. Soon, her gaze met that of the Elder of the Red Dragons.

“You’re saying that you’re the one who saved me?”

“Yes, that’s right.”

“You’re indeed a decent man. No matter how I think about it, you’re too good for the Black.”

“I just saved you, and this is what you’re saying!”

El grabbed Rurin by the scruff as she tried to rush forward. Rurin’s body, about to kick, floated in the air.

“Now is not the time to act, Rurin.”

“But how can I stay still when they’re talking nonsense! You’re absolutely not a waste!”

“Alright, alright.”

El calmed Rurin down and approached Sereina again. Medidana, realizing the situation was going in their favor, also approached El.

“Which one tried to kill you?”

“That guy from earlier. Garud tried to kill me. Yes, that one! He whispered about getting married and having dragons, then breathed fire on me from behind! Elder, did you order this? Elder!”

The Elder of the Red Dragons shook his head at Sereina’s cry. He looked very angry.

“No, Sereina. Why would I, as an Elder, order to harm my own kind!”

The Elder soon directed his anger at Garud.

“Garud, you scoundrel! You attacked your own kind? You harbored such deep murderous intent that you tried to kill her again after seeing her survive! You scoundrel!”

“Th-that’s not it!”

Garud quickly knelt before the Elder. He pointed to another Red Dragon, Veint, who had led the charge to frame El.

“Veint threatened me, saying I’d be shunned for life if I didn’t join him after Ronel’s death. He told me to kill Sereina and join his faction! It’s true. Why else would I attack my lover! It’s not true. Elder!”

“I never threatened anyone! You’re the one who caused this mess with your love affairs!”

Veint, caught off guard and pondering how to kill Garud, started shouting in panic.

“You scoundrels! What on earth are you doing!”

Seeing this, the Elder of the Red Dragons roared. His red body seemed even redder.

“If it was about a love affair, why did you try to attack me? If you knew it was about a love affair, why did you try to frame me? Was there a reason I had to die? Mr. Veint? Explain yourself? Elders on both sides, isn’t this a serious breach of the truce by the Red Dragons?”

Although El mentioned both elders, his gaze was fixed on the Elder of the Black Dragons.

It was a favorable situation for the Black Dragons.

After all, it was a situation where even Rurin could be falsely accused. An elder would not miss such a situation.

“Is that so… This is indeed a serious problem. Dedanq, what do you intend to do about this?”

The Elder of the Black Dragons asked in a serious voice, filled with fear. The Elder of the Red Dragons, unable to remain silent, also shouted angrily at his clan.

“…Veint and Garud! What on earth have you been doing! Don’t you know this truce involves not just our clan but also the Gold Dragons as mediators!”

“No! I don’t know anything about this. Ugh! Shut up! You scoundrel!”

Realizing he was being cornered, Veint began attacking El without thinking.

El easily blocked the insignificant attack and turned to Sereina.

Garud’s mention of Ronel’s faction bothered him, so there was something he wanted to confirm.

“Is there a faction among your Red Dragons? What’s Ronel’s faction?”

“That’s… a rival faction to Veint’s. They were fighting intensely.”

“And Ronel died?”

“Yes, I heard it was a mysterious death. From Garud himself. So that’s also suspicious.”

Sereina kept glaring at the dragon who betrayed her, breathing heavily. She couldn’t bring herself to seek revenge just yet, as she had just recovered.

Veint was flustered.

It was a fatal wound. She should have died. To survive in such a situation, with a method no dragon had ever heard of, naturally caused confusion.

Now, Garud had to die.

If it had been handled cleanly, everything would have been resolved.

The dead don’t speak. Everything could have been perfectly blamed on them.

The situation had taken a bad turn.

Veint glanced at Nies, who had planned all this. But Nies stood with his hands behind his back, as if to retreat since the plan seemed to have failed.

Veint found his attitude very displeasing.

Of course, Nies was going crazy in his own right.

Why didn’t he kill them in one go and made things complicated.

It was a perfect murder exchange. A perfect plan. Yet, here it was, in this state.

They brought the elders to make it foolproof, but Sereina revived and pointed out the culprit right in front of them, so the plan was already over.

Veint had no way to deal with Nies either. Admitting that he killed Ronel and tried to kill Sereina under Nies’ orders would be self-destruction.

Revealing that he tried to kill two of his own kind would be like throwing himself off a cliff.

Even then, Garud kept making bombshell statements to save himself. Veint wanted to kill Garud instantly, but he couldn’t. There were too many eyes watching.

“Elder! The ones who threatened me were all from Veint’s faction. Come to think of it, the timing is too perfect! I believe Veint is definitely related to Ronel’s mysterious death! We need to investigate. I’m just a victim, Elder!”

“Garud, you scoundrel! What nonsense are you spouting! I was with the Elder at that time! Isn’t that right, Elder!”

The Elder of the Red Dragons looked distressed. How could there be such disgrace in front of other clans? He couldn’t show more disgrace here, so he shouted immediately.

“Immediately seize Garud and Veint and escort them to the sacred ground! They will be prosecuted for high treason for causing turmoil among the clan!”

“Yes, Elder!”

The ancient dragons who came with the Elder began moving quickly.

“Damn it!”

Veint cursed wildly.

The root of all this wasn’t himself but Nies. But if he spoke about Nies, he’d be admitting his own crimes too.

The crime of killing Ronel.

“I’m sorry for the disturbance today. The young ones are running wild, but killing one’s own kind is a very grave crime! We will resolve this within the clan. We’ve shown disgrace. But this incident should not break the truce.”

“Do so. But I hope you’ll manage your clan better in the future.”

Dedanq gritted his teeth at the Elder of the Black Dragons’ words. But he had nothing to say. They had committed too much disgrace.

Even El thought the dragon’s face was crumpled beyond belief.

All the ancient dragons of the Red Dragon clan looked ashamed.

They all glared at Veint and Garud angrily. And soon, they began to disappear one by one.

In such a situation, Nies pondered. This place was neither a city nor anything else. And El was not a dragon. Killing El here wouldn’t be a big crime. The agreement between El and the Black Dragons was related to Rurin, not the truce.

He would be questioned, but that would be it. Killing him wouldn’t be a capital crime. Because he wasn’t killing his own kind.

No, in fact, most of the Black Dragons were dissatisfied with El. Just the fact that an arrogant human was trying to be equal with dragons.

So, he would be questioned by the ancient dragons, but he might be praised by the younger ones.

Using others to handle things was the best way to avoid questioning. He tried to use the Red Dragons because of El’s strength, but if he could succeed in an ambush in this situation, the story would be different. He couldn’t back down like this.

All the blame was shouldered by the stupid Veint. No matter what that guy said, he could get away.

Knowing this, he also manipulated Ronel’s death to look like Veint did it. The more deeply investigated, the more disadvantageous it would be for Veint.

Thinking this far, Nies calmly spoke to the Elder.

“Anyway, it seems like the matter is over. Elder, you’re busy, so how about heading back first?”

“Luckily, the matter concluded with no fault on our side, so I guess that’s fine.”

The Elder answered while looking at El. And at Rurin too.

For a brief moment, affection flowed from his face as he looked at Rurin.

Rurin was the Elder’s granddaughter.

No one noticed, but the Elder had always cherished Rurin deeply. Secretly, so no one would notice.

Cherishing his granddaughter was natural, but he couldn’t show it openly due to certain circumstances.

The same goes for El and Rurin’s relationship.

All the other Black Dragons disapproved of Rurin and El’s relationship, but if it was truly for Rurin’s happiness, the Elder had no intention of stopping them.

So, he pretended to oppose them openly but secretly helped them. That’s why he informed them about the lair in advance.

Because his daughter died so terribly, he wanted Rurin to live a happy and full life.

The Elder gazed at Rurin for a moment before attempting to teleport. But Rurin’s eyes were only on El. The Elder smiled bitterly to himself. It was only natural, as he had never shown his affection to Rurin openly.
