“We’re going to use these magitech weapons to subjugate the Guardian Deity of the Central Sea.”

“WHAT!?”

Jonah involuntarily shouted at the unbelievable statement.

“Do you know the legend of the ‘Guardian Deity of the Central Sea,’ Jonah?”

“Y-yes… It’s a mountain-sized being that protects people…”

“Then this’ll be quick. To put it bluntly—that legend is a lie.”

“Huh…?”

Jonah let out a dazed sound, unable to grasp what he meant.

Carlo called the legend of the Guardian Deity a fraud, yet declared he would slay it—an obvious contradiction.

“Sorry, bad wording. The ‘Guardian Deity of the Central Sea’ in the legend isn’t humanity’s ally. That thing… is an enemy.”

Jonah had never seen Carlo wear such a hate-filled expression since they met.

It must mean he has a deep, personal grudge against the Guardian Deity.

“That demon appeared half a year ago, far out in the Central Sea…”

Frowning deeply, Carlo began to speak haltingly.

A Benedian fishing boat with several fishermen aboard had gone far offshore, but for some reason caught not a single fish that day, despite usually hauling in huge catches.

They persisted until nightfall, but the result was the same, so they gave up and headed back to port.

That was when the “Guardian Deity of the Central Sea” revealed itself.

Just as the legends described, the colossal creature suddenly attacked the fishing boat.

It opened its gigantic maw, bit the hull, and splintered the ship into pieces.

The sole survivor frantically reported what happened, but at first no one believed him.

Very few even believed the legend in the first place, and everyone assumed the guardian deity would never harm humans.

Yet attacks on fishing boats continued, and finally the kingdom took action.

They hastily formed a fleet with Carlo as supreme commander and sailed to the open Central Sea where the deity had been sighted.

But—

“N-no way…”

Carlo and the entire navy were speechless.

A colossal sea serpent the size of a mountain—just as the legends claimed—appeared before them.

“…!? Retreat! RETREAT!!!”

Carlo instantly ordered a retreat, but the guardian deity struck faster than they could flee.

Ships were crushed one after another. Fire arrows and ship-mounted ballistae proved utterly ineffective.

Thrown into the sea, Carlo miraculously survived, but he shuddered in horror as he watched his screaming subordinates and comrades devoured before his eyes.

“…And so I swore. I would kill that guardian deity and avenge my fallen comrades.”

Carlo finished his story and bit his lip.

His eyes blazed with the flames of vengeance.

“So… you think the Empire’s magitech can kill it?”

“It has to be… No—we MUST kill that self-proclaimed god…!”

Carlo gnashed his teeth, his face demonic with rage.

Meanwhile, Jonah calmly analyzed the situation.

Even if Imperial magitech was designed for human opponents. The chances it would work against a super-gigantic magical beast were slim.

‘I wonder if my ancient magic would even work…’

He knew the power of ancient magic from exterminating the locusts in Hagenberg territory.

That level of magic ought to affect even a mountain-sized deity, but he couldn’t be sure until he faced it.

Regardless, Jonah’s goal was to witness the legend of the Guardian Deity with his own eyes.

So he had no objection to helping Carlo… but—

“By the way, how did you even manage to buy Imperial magitech? I thought they’d never sell the secret of their military strength.”

“You saw right through it. Yeah, I explained the situation and asked the Empire directly, but they completely ignored me.”

“Then how…?”

Jonah asked, and Carlo gave a crooked grin.

“I got ripped off big time, but a certain noble sold them to me under the table—without the Empire knowing.”

“That’s…”

Jonah almost said it was clearly treason, but he was no longer the eldest son of House Langheim, nor a ducal heir.

He had cut all ties with the Empire, so it was none of his business anymore. He shook his head as if to dispel the thought.

“But still, that noble took a huge risk selling them. Those weapons are strictly controlled even inside the Empire—if they’re discovered, they’d be caught immediately…”

“I don’t really care, but the noble said, ‘We produce magitech independently, so the Empire will never find out.’”

Jonah felt a headache coming on at those words.

This wasn’t just treason—it could be interpreted as plotting rebellion. No… they might actually be planning a rebellion.

“Th-then… what was that noble’s name…?”

“House Langheim. The Duke himself.”
