“Then fight, won’t you? Just you and Fafnir—just the two of you.”
Jonah deliberately wore an innocent smile and told Lindwyrm.
“Me? With Fafnir? Just the two of us?”
Lindwyrm glanced alternately between Jonah and Fafnir, then widened his eyes.
“Pfft… ahahahahahahahahahahaha!”
It doubled over and burst into loud laughter.
“What’s so funny?”
“Of course it’s funny! Fafnir got utterly beaten by me! Even if you fight now, of course I’ll win again!”
Lindwyrm answered with laughter to Jonah’s smiling question.
However, its eyes did not laugh at all; rather, it directed a gaze at Jonah that could kill.
“That’s rich coming from you. You were hurt by Fafnir too and hid away in a place like this.”
“…! Why should I have to hide away? I’m just here to size up the next prey!”
Lindwyrm clamored inside Jonah’s head.
As if it’d been called out on the spot, like a sulky child earnestly making excuses.
Seeing that White Dragon, Jonah inwardly smirked.
He never imagined it was even more immature than an eleven-year-old child, but now Lindwyrm wouldn’t avoid fighting Fafnir.
“Then prove it by fighting Fafnir. Prove that you’re stronger. Prove that you didn’t run away out of fear.”
“Gladly! I’ll beat Fafnir so badly they’ll never be able to fight me again!”
Lindwyrm, taken in by the flattery, finally agreed to fight Fafnir.
All that remained was to prepare a stage befitting a meeting between the two dragons.
“Ahahaha.”
Jonah laughed, holding up both hands toward Lindwyrm, who bared huge, sharp fangs.
Just as he had when he slaughtered locusts, the sea-serpent beast, and commanders of the Demon Lord’s army.
—To make those who arrogantly believe themselves absolute understand that there is an even greater injustice than their own arrogance.
“Oh root of soil that frolics in the depths of the earth, manifest before me and become a perfect circle encircling all things of this world, granting a stage of contest to these two great jaws.”
Jonah traced rapidly with his right index finger toward the ground and chanted, and a magic circle so large it could contain the massive bodies of Fafnir and Lindwyrm rose up.
“【Colosseum】”
The ground with the magic circle drawn on it bulged upward, forming a circular stage that rose toward the two dragons.
Lindwyrm tried to escape, trying to climb even higher.
“You can’t.”
“…!?”
The outer rim of the circular platform rose into towering walls, piercing even the clouds.
As if reaching out to grasp the stars twinkling in the night sky.
“Ohhhhh…!”
“…………………………….”“…………………………….”“…………………………….”
Fafnir, who had alighted on the suddenly formed battlefield, let out a voice of admiration, while Patricia, Henrik, and Kuu were speechless.
Lindwyrm, who had aimed to go higher still, seemed to realize escape from the stage Jonah had made was impossible; it slowly descended and stood before Fafnir.
“Now then, I went to the trouble of preparing a stage for you. Go ahead and fight to your heart’s content.”
‘……………………’
Lindwyrm stared intently at Jonah, who had spread his arms.
Not as the petty prey he had been until moments ago, but as a threat that could even surpass its kin Fafnir.
It could choose to challenge Jonah here and now, but from Jonah’s composed expression and demeanor, Lindwyrm sensed that a single misstep would not go unpunished. Its dragon instincts kept sounding alarms.
In other words—there was no option but to fight Fafnir one-on-one.
“Fafnir, this is as far as I can go. The rest is all yours.”
“…I am grateful.”
Leaving those words behind, Jonah teleported away with Patricia, Henrik, and Kuu.
To a place where they could watch the two dragons’ fight to the end… the premium seats on the circular stage set high up on the wall.
“Lindwyrm.”
“…Fine. I’ll defeat Fafnir, and then I’ll leave this place at my leisure.”
They planted strength into their four legs and crouched low.
And then.
“Gwoooooaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrr!”
“Grrrrruuuuuuoooooaaaaaarrrrrrrrr!”
The legendary Paired Dragons collided fiercely in the center of the circular stage.
