Flight Magic

It was the day after his visit to the Royal Library. Vim decided it was time to pay Count Dion a visit.
“I’m heading over to Count Dion’s place.”
“Is that so? Will you be traveling alone, sir?” James asked.
“Yeah. I just have a few things I want to ask him, and there’s something I’ve been meaning to test out, too.”
Having said that to James, Vim stepped out onto the terrace.
“I thought you were going to the Count’s estate?” James looked puzzled.
“Well, let’s see if this works.”
Vim deployed magic around his own body. A magic circle appeared beneath his feet, and his body slowly began to lift off the ground.
Indeed—Flight Magic.
“Th-this is…” James’s expression shifted to one of pure shock.
“Yep. Success.”
Vim tried moving around a bit in the air. Having heard the commotion, Aria and Hana rushed out onto the terrace as well.
“He’s flying… Master Vim is actually flying!!”
“Honestly, I’m beyond surprised; I’m just exasperated at this point,” Hana remarked. Vim felt like she had said something he shouldn’t just let slide, but he decided to let it go for now.
“Alright, I’m off to see Count Dion! I should be back by evening, so I’ll leave things to you!”
With that, Vim soared high into the sky and took off toward the Town of Baron. He deployed a defensive barrier around his body to block the direct force of the wind.
“Yeah. At this rate, I’ll reach Baron in no time.”
Usually, the journey takes about half a day, but at this pace, he should arrive in Baron in about an hour.
“This is quite convenient,” he mused as he flew.
Before long, the Town of Baron came into view. Vim touched down in an inconspicuous spot just outside the town limits; he couldn’t exactly descend right in the middle of the streets.
As he moved to enter Baron, he noticed inspections were being carried out. While inspections were a daily occurrence, today felt more frantic and stricter than usual.
“Excuse me. Do you have anything to prove your identity?” a guard conducting the inspection asked.
“Will this do?”
Vim pulled his guild card and the card with the royal crest from his pocket.
“My apologies! A person connected to the Royal House!”
“Don’t worry about it. More importantly, did something happen?”
“Yes. A person closely resembling an internationally wanted assassin was spotted nearby, so we have tightened security.”
“I see. Well, keep up the good work. I’ll report back if I see anything.”
“We appreciate your cooperation!” The guard saluted vigorously.
Finally entering the town, Vim headed toward the Lord’s manor. The streets were as beautiful as ever, and the citizens looked vibrant. It was a sight that spoke volumes about how much Count Dion was loved by his people. At the end of the main thoroughfare stood the large mansion—the Lord’s residence.
“I’d like to see Count Dion.”
Arriving at the manor, Vim spoke to the gate guard and presented his royal card.
“Tell him Vim Abel has arrived.”
“Understood.”
After a short wait, the guard returned.
“The Count will see you. Please, come in.”
He opened the gate and invited Vim inside.
