“Hey… is this really what a personal maid is supposed to do?”

“Yes, of course. I’m your personal maid (and big sister), after all. I’ll also be checking your meals from now on. If I leave you alone, you’ll just eat meat all the time, right? Ah, and you have to eat your bell peppers. You can’t grow big and strong if you don’t eat them.”

Arthur, who had been about to pick the bell peppers off his plate, got scolded.

“Ugh… okay, fine…”

It was something that never could’ve happened in the past. No one had ever dared to scold Arthur like this, and even if someone had, they’d likely have been banished from the castle by his attendants the next day without Arthur ever knowing.

And yet, this Arthur—even while being reprimanded—looked oddly pleased.

And Kei’s fussing wasn’t limited to meals. She helped him get dressed, scolded him when he tried to skip baths… she was all-in.

Because of this, even Arthur’s reputation within the castle had started to change.

Huh? Wasn’t Lord Arthur actually kind of approachable? People began to wonder.

After lunch, Arthur sat in the courtyard, soaking in the sun and groaning over his Good Deed Notebook. Kei brewed him a calming herbal tea and gently asked,

“What’s the matter, Lord Arthur? If something’s bothering you, don’t hesitate to tell me.”

“Well… then, can I ask you a question right away?”

“Hehe, of course. I’m your personal maid, after all.”

“Thanks… So, I want to help people who are in trouble. What should I do?”

Arthur smiled as Kei beamed with pride at being relied on. He wanted to rack up Good Deed Points and was turning to her for wisdom—though he didn’t mention the notebook directly, only that he wanted to do something others would genuinely appreciate.

“Lord Arthur… how noble of you!! That’s noblesse oblige, isn’t it? You’ve grown into such a fine young man—I’m so proud of you as your personal maid (and big sister)!”

“Ah, uh… thanks.”

Though she didn’t actually raise me or anything, Arthur thought, but being praised by her didn’t feel bad. He’d grown just enough to keep those thoughts to himself.

“I asked around yesterday too—if anyone had any problems. But everyone said there was nothing… I guess that’s a good thing, but I want to do something for someone.”

“Oh, now that you mention it, I was warned by my coworkers to watch out because you’ve been acting strangely… So that’s what they meant…”

Kei furrowed her brows slightly as if something clicked. Arthur, oblivious to her concern, spoke proudly.

“That’s why I’m planning to ask around the nobles and servants again today to see if anyone needs help. Will you come with me, Kei?”

“Lord Arthur, I really can’t recommend that. The servants won’t be able to admit they’re in trouble, and neither will the nobles. In the worst-case scenario, someone might take advantage of your kindness.”

“Huh? Why’s that?”

Arthur looked genuinely puzzled, and Kei struggled to figure out how to explain it. It was common for servants to suffer from the whims of nobles—sometimes even losing their jobs or being executed for trivial matters. That’s why, except for those born into nobility or who served directly under one, most servants avoided unnecessary interaction with nobles altogether.

It was an unfortunate side effect of the wide gap between commoners and nobility—an unspoken rule even most nobles understood. But a sheltered Arthur would have no way of knowing such things.

Even so, Kei didn’t want his goodwill to go to waste. She decided to explain in a way he might understand.

“Well… Lord Arthur, you’re royalty and a powerful healer. That makes your position very unique. So to most people, you’re someone they don’t really know—and can’t easily approach. Imagine if a stranger suddenly gave you a gift or was super kind to you out of nowhere. Wouldn’t you wonder why? It’s the same for them. They get nervous, wondering if they’ll owe you something in return.”

“Huh? But I get gifts from nobles I don’t even know all the time—jewels, famous goods from their lands…”

“Ah… I see… Well… good for you, then…”

Kei’s attempt at persuasion failed spectacularly. Arthur’s worldview was simply too far removed from Kei’s as a commoner. But now that she was his personal maid (and big sister), she racked her brain to find another way to help him understand.

Sensing her struggle, Arthur spoke with a hint of guilt.

“I still don’t get why it’s wrong, but… if you say it’s a bad idea, I’ll try something else. Will you help me figure out another way?”

Had someone from Arthur’s previous life heard him now, they wouldn’t have believed it. He was trying to understand how others felt—something he never considered before his capture.

“Lord Arthur…”

Hearing his sincere words and seeing his earnest expression, Kei felt a warmth spread through her chest. Of course, she didn’t know that Arthur was living his second life—but she could feel the deep trust he had placed in her.

And that made her happy too.

“Understood. Let’s learn together, from now on, Lord Arthur.”

“Yeah. Thanks. I might say weird things now and then, but please keep teaching me.”

“Of course. Rely on me as much as you want.”

Arthur and Kei exchanged a smile, and their moment together was so wholesome that Kei’s sense of sisterly duty toward him only grew stronger.

“Oh, right… I don’t have any great ideas, but I do know a place where people in need tend to gather.”

“Really?!”

Arthur’s face lit up, and Kei answered with a bright smile.

“Yes. When that’s the case, we should go to Avalon. That place gathers all sorts of information, so I’m sure we’ll find someone who needs help.”

“That place, huh…”

Arthur’s expression immediately darkened. Understandable—after all, his nemesis was there…
