(…Wait, isn’t Hina going full yandere!?)
After watching Hina leave the room, Cordelia shuddered.
Hina was definitely plotting something. Hopefully it wasn’t troublesome—but coming from someone who threatened to “destroy the kingdom,” it was ninety-nine percent trouble.
(Threatening someone you like won’t make love work… right?)
If threats worked, Cordelia would have used them long ago. Even she, with zero romantic experience, knew that. Why didn’t Hina, who had always been surrounded by handsome admirers?
While thinking, Isaac turned toward her, pain in his expression.
“I’m sorry… I couldn’t get through to her.”
“No, I don’t think that was Your Highness’s fault.”
He had clearly expressed his feelings—the problem was the listener.
“There should still be chances to talk. Until then, I’ll assign Jean as your bodyguard. I honestly don’t know what the Holy Maiden might do.”
(He’s worried about me… how kind…!)
Her heart fluttered, but she firmly shook her head.
“No, Jean isn’t necessary. I hold the title of ‘Sage,’ and I’m stronger than him.”
The title Sage was the highest class of magical mastery. Only a handful existed—and Cordelia alone held it in dark magic.
“You are strong, but I still worry. If needed, use Jean as a decoy and escape.”
(Your Highness treats Jean harshly too…)
Isaac awkwardly added,
“…I trust Jean would survive.”
Accepting it as faith, Cordelia tilted her head.
“So the Holy Maiden might unleash the Sacred Beast…”
The Sacred Beast was Fenrir, the holy wolf from the founding legend.Once a violent monster, he became sacred after meeting a holy maiden—the first queen—and since guarded the kingdom, choosing kings every few centuries through the Holy Maiden.
“Can the Holy Maiden truly destroy the kingdom?”
“The beast protects the Holy Maiden and what she loves. Meaning it may destroy what she deems worthless.”
They shuddered.
(The goddess chose wrong again…)
“…Perhaps I must give up and marry her.”
“Your Highness…”
From a royal duty perspective, it made sense—but still.
(This isn’t romantic at all!)
She raised her head determined.
“Then I’ll train my magic and beat the Sacred Beast!”
“…I’m sorry, what?”
Isaac stared in disbelief.
