Out of sight, out of mind. After Li Chaosheng retreated into his Sea of Consciousness, everything outside no longer concerned him. He had no idea how his body was being “mistreated.” After staying in the Sea of Consciousness for roughly an hour, Li Chaosheng felt a pulling force trying to draw his spirit back.
Although Li Chaosheng could have casually waved his hand and used the power of the Killing Scripture to destroy that pulling force, he guessed Summer Lotus was undoing her soul-enchanting technique, so he offered no resistance and let his spirit re-enter his body.
He opened his eyes slowly. When he did, he saw Summer Lotus at the dressing table having her hair brushed by the head maid. Seeing Li Chaosheng awake, she said in a soft voice, “Young master, you are awake?”
Li Chaosheng put on an act and looked at his bare body, asking, “What happened to me?”
“Young master, you do not remember? Yesterday you drank a few too many cups and passed out on the table.”
“Uh~ I seem to remember I only drank one cup.”
“One cup? Our wine here is strong. One cup could do it.”
“I see~ Then this part…”
Li Chaosheng lifted the quilt and saw his underpants were still on. He breathed a sigh of relief. Those two little influencer-level girls, AHEM, the maids must not have gone too far, he thought, and relaxed.
“You flatter me. Last night the young master was dead drunk. It was this servant and the maids who helped the young master up onto the couch. It exhausted me to death.”
Summer Lotus pouted playfully. Li Chaosheng looked guilty on the surface, but inwardly he was indignant as he thought, “As if I’ll buy that explanation. I just slept on the table last night. You didn’t exhaust yourself at all. What do you mean by you were exhausted? You stayed up reading romance books until eleven or twelve, what a waste of candles.“
“Ah, that must have been hard on you, miss. Last night I was discourteous. Why not climb into the bed and let me cherish you a bit?”
Li Chaosheng looked at Summer Lotus with feigned concern, but in his heart he thought: if I wanted to tease you, you’re definitely be doomed.
Summer Lotus stiffened at his words and glanced at the head maid. The head maid hurriedly said, “Young master, sorry. Our miss must attend the music gathering in the house today. Her freshly done makeup must not be ruined. If you are not satisfied, I can fetch some attendant maids so you can show your prowess.”
“Oh dear, young master, my apologies.”
Summer Lotus also spoke apologetically, but inside she was fuming, “That bastard should have slept on the floor yesterday, humph!”
The corner of Li Chaosheng’s mouth lifted and he could not help laughing. “Alright, alright. I have other things to do and won’t keep you. Help me dress and get me up.”
“Yes, sir.”
As Li Chaosheng said this, the head maid quickly gestured, “Someone, bring his clothing, help the young master get up.”
Summer Lotus said this as two maids immediately entered, their faces prettily flushed. Their eyes couldn’t help glancing at Li Chaosheng, but they no longer dared to be as bold as before and grope him.
Instead they gently helped Li Chaosheng dress. He straightened his collar and said, “Then I won’t bother Miss Summer Lotus further. Farewell.”
After saying that he left the room. Watching Li Chaosheng go, Summer Lotus breathed a sigh of relief and said, “He’s a straightforward man. If he hadn’t stopped, I would have had to work harder to deal with him.”
Having said that, she continued with her own grooming.
Li Chaosheng went downstairs and saw the old temple keeper and Zhou Bo already waiting. The three exchanged glances. The old temple keeper said, “Well? Miss Summer Lotus is no ordinary woman, right?”
Li Chaosheng chuckled, “Not only extraordinary, she is utterly unexpected.”
There was nothing wrong with Li Chaosheng’s words. Who would have thought the courtesan was a member of the White Lotus Sect? But it wasn’t anyone’s concern. He would mind his own business and focus on being an executioner.
After thinking this through, Li Chaosheng bid farewell to the old temple keeper and Zhou Bo and left Changchun Court, returning to the Dead Street and back home. As he stepped in, he realized something was wrong: his door stood wide open. Had there been a robbery?
Li Chaosheng was slightly startled and rushed inside. Other things aside, his Turtle Son was still in the house. If someone stole it and made turtle soup, that’d be terrible.
Entering, Li Chaosheng immediately saw his Turtle Son, but it was different from before. In just a few days it had doubled in size and was now about the diameter of a bowl.
When it saw Li Chaosheng enter, the Turtle Son poked its eyes out of its shell and spun them around, clearly hungry. Li Chaosheng laughed, tossed it two fried cakes he’d grabbed on the street, and Turtle Son, likely truly starving, gobbled them down with relish.
After a night of bustling outside, Li Chaosheng had not slept well. He stretched, made the bed, and settled in for a proper nap. As the saying goes, those who do not rest cannot work.
He slept until noon. Sunlight poured over the land. Li Chaosheng rubbed his eyes, rose, sat cross-legged outside, and began cultivating his Witch Body-Refinement Techniques.
Witch Body-Refinement Techniques served as a supplementary strengthening to Postnatal Body-Refinement Techniques. Li Chaosheng began cultivating in the courtyard, naturally starting from the first level Training Flesh stage.
Right away Li Chaosheng sensed the difference between the Witch Body-Refinement Techniques and ordinary cultivation technique. If the ordinary cultivation technique given by the Nightwardens improved the body by 1 for every full cycle cultivated, then each cultivation of the Witch Body-Refinement Techniques improved it by 10. A tenfold gap. It truly could not be compared to ordinary cultivation technique.
He cultivated for three days straight and perfected the first level Training Flesh stage of the Witch Body-Refinement Techniques. Li Chaosheng’s physical strength should now be more than three times what it was before. His combat power had surged. Facing someone like Big Wolf now would likely be solved in a single move.
On the third day, while Li Chaosheng was cultivating the second level Training Sinews phase of the Witch Body-Refinement Techniques, the door was suddenly knocked on loudly. Li Chaosheng opened it and saw Wang Er standing at the doorway.
“Yo, Brother Er, long time no see. What’s this about?” Li Chaosheng sized up Wang Er and asked.
Wang Er smiled and said, “Work’s arrived.”
“Oh? What kind of work?”
Li Chaosheng couldn’t help but be interested. Wang Er said, “You forgot? Not long ago I told you how the Sun family’s daughter in our county had made it big and is coming back to arrange a three-day banquet to marry off her brother, and asked the Zheng family to send them twenty fat pigs?”
“I know. I even helped slaughter pigs for two days!”
“Yes, it’s that family. Someone died.”
“Oh? How did that happen?” Li Chaosheng asked in confusion.
Wang Er said, “It’s a long story with many twists. They say a monk died. Enough for now, we’ll talk details later. Let’s go to the magistrate’s office first. The county magistrate is waiting to perform the execution.”
“Oh, all right. Wait for me a moment.”
Li Chaosheng said this, then went back inside to fetch his knife, and was in a very good mood. Business had arrived. He could once again profit off the Killing Scripture. Wonderful!
