“Good day, Young Master Lycoris.”
“Hello, Captain. Have you familiarized yourself with this place?”
“Thanks to you, we have become familiar with it. With Queen Auriel watching over us, please entrust this place to us without worry!”
The person who approached Naiye was the captain leading Queen Auriel’s knights; her clear gaze briefly and unobtrusively admired Young Master Naiye’s cheek and his crimson eyes.
She was the only captain in this unit, and the whole squad was deliberately kept to a minimum in number.
After all, they were guarding the Lycoris territory on behalf of Young Master Naiye; if there were too many people it might be interpreted differently.
Although few in number, seeing Queen Auriel’s knights should deter any idiot from making a move.
They belonged to Queen Auriel, and who would dare provoke Her Majesty, the supreme queen of the Auriel Kingdom?
“Then I will confidently entrust this place to Her Majesty the Queen; I won’t worry about anyone daring to harass it.”
“You jest. That said, each of your important locations already has its own Magical Automaton knight guardians; you don’t really need us.”
After saying that, the knight captain looked toward the silver knight statues standing on either side of the distant doorway.
They looked like statues, but they were in fact Magical Automaton knights created by Naiye, patrolling day and night to guard the Lycoris family’s key locations.
“They are machines and can only stop enemies; many matters in the territory still rely on you knights to handle, so I feel reassured by you.”
“Yes, I promise we will protect the territory well.”
What the captain meant was that her people would do their utmost to fulfill their duties and would not meddle in matters they shouldn’t.
Naiye understood that well; after all, they were Queen Auriel’s knights and could truly be trusted.
“Papa!”
“Come here! Xiao Lu, I just happen to have something to ask of you.”
A roughly ten-year-old boy raised his little hand and ran toward Naiye, cheerful and loud.
Behind him followed a chubby, pale Magical Automaton.
“………..”
The knight captain widened her eyes, unable to believe what she had just heard.
Just now the boy Xiao Lu had called Young Master Naiye.
Papa?
Young Master Naiye was the young head of the family; four years ago he graduated early from the Auriel Knight Academy and then inherited the position of clan head.
With no obstacles or rivals, he became head of the Lycoris family at sixteen as the sole heir.
Moreover, he controlled Lycoris absolutely as an individual.
Naiye is Lycoris.
He was still called “Young Master” because he had not yet reached full adulthood; in the Lycoris family one must be thirty to hold the coming-of-age ceremony, much later than the usual noble age of twenty.
Although that was not particularly extraordinary—within the Auriel Kingdom, the current third Queen Auriel supposedly became Queen Auriel the Third a thousand years ago, at the age of ten.
That means Queen Auriel the Third is now 1,010 years old.
This was normal, because Queen Auriel was no ordinary person or ordinary queen; she was an extremely exceptional being.
But the Lycoris head before them was only twenty—how could he have a son?
And this Xiao Lu looked about ten years old—did Young Master Naiye have a wife at ten and a child?
No, that couldn’t be; the captain decided not to indulge in wild speculation and instead planned to ask someone who knew.
She approached the silent Dark Knight who had been standing watch behind Young Master Naiye: Weiluxika.
This Dark Knight always gave off a terrifying and formidable aura, and had unparalleled combat strength that even the captain could only envy.
Fortunately, during the handover in recent days the captain found that she was someone who could be communicated with properly.
Aside from the dark markings on her face, which were somewhat frightening.
“Lady Dark Knight, may I ask who this child is?”
The Dark Knight Weiluxika did not answer immediately; she instinctively turned her left cheek slightly away from the captain before replying.
“This is Lubi Lycoris; the Magical Automaton knight behind him is called Da Bai—he is Xiao Lu’s guardian and assistant, and Lubi is Young Master Naiye’s adopted godson.”
“His sister is Dr. Emira, the Young Master’s chief scientist; many of the Magical Automata here, including Da Bai, were created by the doctor.”
“I see…”
With the Dark Knight’s explanation, the captain understood immediately.
Dr. Emira was a scientist famed far and wide.
It seemed Naiye’s reason for adopting this boy as a godson was not merely to curry favor with Dr. Emira.
Watching Naiye crouch down and happily converse with Xiao Lu.
This Xiao Lu was clearly very much liked by Young Master Naiye.
“Listen, Xiao Lu—Papa will be away for a while starting tomorrow, so today I have an important task.”
“I’m entrusting it to my most trusted godson and Da Bai!”
When the chubby, entirely white automaton behind Xiao Lu heard the voice of its great master—Young Master of the House Naiye.
It waddled over with its round body, ready to obey orders.
(●—●)
“I want you two to remember to maintain the Magical Automata while I’m gone—can you do that?”
Naiye produced a silvery-white token, stamped with the crest of the Lycoris flower.
This was Naiye’s token as head of the family; it could be used to issue Naiye’s commands to the Magical Automata, and not only maintain them but also control them.
Almost all of the Magical Automata.
—It seemed this godson was not chosen casually; Young Master Naiye actually trusted a ten-year-old boy so much.
This was the captain’s most profound impression since arriving here.
“Okay! I promise Papa and Big Sister! I will definitely complete this task—I want to high-five Papa!”
Xiao Lu happily accepted the token; he looked as if he had received a favorite toy.
He simultaneously reached his small palm out toward Naiye.
“Good! I knew I could trust Xiao Lu, but before the high-five, do you remember our daily rule?”
“Of course! If we don’t maintain it today, we’ll have to repair it tomorrow!”
With a slap, Naiye gently placed his hand on Xiao Lu’s small hand.
“Good! It’s entrusted to you and Da Bai! Both of you should also take care of your bodies.”
Young Master Naiye patted Da Bai’s round head, hugged Xiao Lu, and then placed his hand on the boy’s chest.
Through the clothing, a complex magic array was traced out.
“………….”
A series of sounds came from Xiao Lu’s chest.
But it wasn’t the usual thump-thump of a normal heart!
Instead—tick, tick, tick—the sound of a clock.
“Alright, your heart is fine, but remember to maintain it every day. Da Bai, you must keep an eye on him too!”
“Yes!”
Xiao Lu showed no other reaction; he grabbed the Lycoris token and ran off excitedly!
Da Bai bobbed his head up and down toward his great master and then followed his little master away.
Xiao Lu was specially adopted by Naiye as a godson not only because his sister Dr. Emira had joined Naiye.
The most important reason was that his heart was one of Naiye’s pinnacle creations.
A work that was nearly impossible to succeed.
The world’s only heart created using magi-tech.
