Inside the mirror.

Gu Changqing came forward, hoping to calm Changxi’s emotions down.

But this woman stared at him like he was some great demon and actually took many steps away from him.

Her eyes were filled with nothing but terror toward him.

Gu Changqing’s gaze grew conflicted. He didn’t blame her, he just felt a little bad for her.

Right now, everything she knew must have been turned upside down.

Gu Changqing could hardly begin to imagine the sort of impact this scene before her had dealt.

He looked up to the sky and stared at the Sun Planet that was high up above.

He knew that only the true fire of the sun, this extreme of both the sun and strength, would be able to fully get rid of any traces of Xihe’s remnant soul inside Changxi’s body.

“I will take the blame for everything.”

That was what Gu Changqing thought to himself.

He felt terribly helpless and his heart hurt too.

But he knew that there were things that he had to do, no matter how reluctant he was.

His expression slowly grew distant, grew icy.

In that moment, Changxi’s fear of him increased.

He slowly started walking toward her.

But she just kept taking steps backward. “What do you want…”

In her heart, endless bitterness welled up. That icy stare, that aloofness toward her, made him a stranger to her and made her feel hopeless.

Gu Changqing didn’t say anything to her. He used his overpowering strength to trap her, then flew to the Sun Planet.

He sealed her cultivation and threw her in the true fire of the sun.

“Gu Changqing!”

“What are you doing! The true fire of the sun will burn me to death, and it will burn her to death too!”

“How could you bear to do that! How could you bear to do that!”

The remnant of Xihe’s soul inside Changxi’s body took over the younger one’s body once more.

She finally showed some signs of fear, her voice tinged with despair, “Gu Changqing, my younger sister treated you so well! But you’ve turned out to be unfeeling and cold-blooded! You’re not human!!!”

The woman’s voice continued to scream insults at him hysterically.

But Gu Changqing ignored Xihe’s cries.

He sacrificed his dao fruit and placed it inside Changxi’s body so as to protect Changxi’s soul, to make sure her soul didn’t perish.

But that was all he could do.

The burning and physical pain that came with it was impossible to erase.

“Gu Changqing, why did you have to do this…why…”

The voice that belonged to Changxi resounded. It was clear that Changxi’s own soul was back in charge of her body.

She groaned in pain.

Her voice was filled with despair.

“Why would you do something like this! How did you become like this!”

“Could it be that I’ve never had any place in your heart?!”

“Give me a reason, Gu Changqing!”

“You know well that I have a Sacred Moon Body that is most afraid of the true fire of the sun! Why would you want to torture me like this!”

“Give me a reason, at the very least! How did you become someone like this…”

…

Outside the mirror.

Everyone felt stifled inside.

Nobody could imagine how much the Heavenly Emperor’s heart hurt when he trapped Changxi within the flames of the sun.

Even so, he had been willing to take the blame for everything. He went all out, using the most vicious of moves on himself in order to provide the best protection for Changxi.

“The Quasi-Emperor dao fruit that the Heavenly Emperor finally cultivated and refined during his time among mortals is gone again…”

“Human dao was so powerful that he could kill a Half-step to Immortality being in seconds despite only being at Quasi-Emperor. Yet he actually gave up his dao fruit once more.”

Many of the cultivators felt like their insides were about to burst.

Everyone had watched how hard Gu Changqing had cultivated.

The cultivation he did day after day, finally brought him to Quasi-Emperor after much effort. He had finally understood a method of cultivation that could make him almost invincible.

Yet in this moment, to protect Changxi, this Heavenly Emperor gave it up again!

He had given up so much.

Yet he was never understood. In order to protect Changxi, he even allowed himself to be cursed and spat at for years, and allowed a woman he loved to see him as an enemy.

…

Right now, Changxi was practically drowning in her own tears.

“Why didn’t you tell me…why…”

“You’ve clearly done so much for me, but I wanted you dead and I’ve hated you for millennia.”

She clutched her chest.

In the next moment, a mouthful of blood sprayed out of her.

Her aura was in chaos, her heart unable to bear the weight of guilt.

Everything this man had done was to protect herself. But she had teamed up with others to try and kill him!!

She finally understood everything now.

She understood why Gu Changqing had suddenly changed and trapped her like that.

She understood why he remained completely aloof and uncaring despite how hard she begged him for mercy.

Right now, as she looked at herself in the mirror, at a time when she began to hate Gu Changqing with all her heart, she felt so much guilt, it was becoming too hard to bear.

“You did so much for me, you took so much blame, but in the end, I wanted to kill you.”

“How could I, what could I possibly do to compensate for your loss, to beg and receive your forgiveness…”

In this moment, Changxi even wished she could die now. She couldn’t find it in herself to face the man who had taken all the blame for her and had quietly protected her all her life.

…

Inside the mirror.

Pleading and cries rang out nonstop.

But Gu Changqing remained unconcerned as he watched all this happen.

His heart, however, felt like it was being cut with a knife.

This woman was such a charming, pure and innocent person. How could he bear to torture her to this extent?

But more than that, he couldn’t bear to let her face the cruelty of the truth behind this entire thing. He didn’t want her to live in pain after knowing the truth.

Gu Changqing didn’t dare to keep watching over her.

He was afraid that he might give in.

Just like that, Gu Changqing left the Sun Planet.

He ignored her pleas, he ignored her begging.

Once he was out of sight, he could no longer keep that icy expression on his face. He turned back to stare hard at the Sun Planet with tears in his eyes.

…

Outside the mirror.

The cultivators felt so suffocated as they saw the expression on the Heavenly Emperor’s face.

Everyone could sense the pain that must have filled the Heavenly Emperor’s heart!

Everyone was silent.

They had a moment of silence for the way the Heavenly Emperor had quietly shouldered the blame and endured the humiliation all these years.

“That’s the truth behind the Heavenly Emperor massacring the humans.”

“That’s the truth behind why the humans cursed and insulted the Heavenly Emperor for millennia.”

A voice cut through the silence. It was filled with mocking.

The two human cultivators had conflicted looks on their faces. They certainly had not expected the story that had been passed down through generations to have such a different origin story.

The man blessed by the heavens also sensed the change in everyone’s attitude.

He had definitely noticed the change in Changxi, a woman who was now like a ticking time bomb.

He quickly said a little frantically, “That was a misunderstanding, but don’t forget, the Heavenly Emperor eventually abandoned the humans.”

“The humans begged him to appear, yet he pretended not to see their plight. That’s how much he let them down despite being the most powerful cultivator of the humans, the ruler of the humans!”
