Inside the mirror.
The dark cave was filled with nothing but the sound of water dripping.
Faint dao waves were flowing around Gu Changqing’s body right now. These dao waves were very strange. Sometimes they were clear, sometimes they were as brilliant as gold, sometimes it was filled with murderous qi.
These were clearly three completely different dao waves, yet they melded perfectly together.
As if it was a source from the universe itself that could encompass all things.
Outside the mirror.
The cultivators were all shocked.
“Is the Heavenly Emperor…cultivating again?”
Nobody expected the Heavenly Emperor to start cultivation so quickly again after giving up on human dao.
After all, the Heavenly Emperor had taken up human dao only after three years of no cultivation!
But this time, it hadn’t been too long!
“This is a new system again?”
The cultivators stared at Gu Changqing in shock. The unfamiliar laws that surrounded Gu Changqing were laws that none of them could understand. They couldn’t tell what the Heavenly Emperor was cultivating in.
But it was clear that this system was extremely complicated and carried traces of several different dao waves.
“Could it be the Heavenly Book?”
The cultivators were silent for a while. Most of them agreed with this view.
After all, before this, in order to cultivate in those systems, he had had to understand the dao from elsewhere and wander the world. But now, the only thing he had on him was that Heavenly Book.
But that was still shocking to the cultivators.
There was absolutely nothing written in that book.
Since there was nothing inside, how could one cultivate?
Also, everyone could see what Gu Changqing was doing over the past number of days. The man had never taken out the book even once. How could he cultivate like this?
Everyone was puzzled and looked confused.
Initially they were hoping to learn from the Heavenly Emperor when he started cultivating, so that they could imitate his ways.
But just like before, nobody could understand what in the world was even going on.
…
Time passed. Nobody knew how long it had been.
It might have been one year. Or it might have been decades.
In the mirror.
One day, Bai Chonglou returned to the cave.
He stared at the man before him, his expression a little complicated.
“If you don’t hand the Heavenly Book over, then I won’t be able to control if you live or die anymore.”
His gaze was conflicted as he spoke those words.
But Gu Changqing just stared back at him and didn’t say a word.
Bai Chonglou sighed, then his gaze suddenly grew vicious as he spread his palm out and a demonic flame instantly swallowed Gu Changqing whole.
In that instant, extreme pain hit him.
This demonic flame was very terrifying.
It was like 10,000 ants biting and chewing. It could be felt in one’s very bones and made it feel like one’s internal organs were being torn apart slowly.
Bai Chonglou stared at the man who still refused to say a word despite the pain he suffered and said, “If you have any regrets now, it’s not too late yet. As long as you hand the book over, I can give you anything you want.”
Gu Changqing continued ignoring him.
“What a stubborn fellow!”
Bai Chonglou seemed to be really angry now and stormed out.
…
After a long time.
Those faint footsteps could be heard outside the cave.
“Teehee, surely you must miss me today, right?”
A tinkling, crisp voice came from outside the cave.
Bai Qing’er hopped in front of the entrance as though she had meant to give the man inside a surprise.
Then she saw a scene that horrified her.
The man in the cave was locked down by divine chains and was swallowed by demonic flames. These flames were not fatal, but they had caused wounds and lesions all over the man’s body.
Bai Qing’er eyes instantly reddened.
“Bai Chonglou, why must you do this!”
“I want to sever ties with you! I don’t want to be your daughter anymore!”
Her eyes were bloodshot as she came to Gu Changqing and pleaded with him through sobs, “I’m begging you, give the Heavenly Book to him. He’s not the one who can make a decision on this. Even if he’s willing to let you off, the Grand Elder won’t let you off.”
“The Grand Elder is about to come out of isolation. If he comes out and still doesn’t get hold of the Heavenly Book, not only would my father have to suffer his wrath, you’ll end up dying too!”
Bai Qing’er’s eyes were filled with tears as she pleaded with him desperately.
But he remained unmoved.
“I’m begging you, say something.”
“If you give the Heavenly Book to him, you’ll only stand to gain. My father will help you return to the Great Emperor realm and if you want to, you can even join our sect, and my father won’t make things difficult for you. And if you’re willing, I can marry you too…”
Bai Qing’er kept pleading with him.
But all she got was silence in return.
“Gu Changqing, what in the world do you want! Do you really want to let yourself die from pain?!”
Bai Qing’er’s eyes were bloodshot and tears kept pouring down her cheeks.
“You deserve it! You obstinate man! You should die from pain! Die from pain!”
Bai Qing’er wiped her tears and ran out.
But not too long later, she returned.
She stood at the entrance and didn’t come in for a long time. Her gaze was a little conflicted.
A moment later, she seemed to have come to a decision of sorts. She revealed a serious expression she had never worn before and said, “Since you don’t want to hand the Heavenly Book over to him, I will think of a way to get you out of here.”
“But that will take time, you have to wait for me… Before I return, you’ve got to make sure you stay alive, you hear me?”
Bai Qing’er stared longingly at Gu Changqing.
As though she was trying to etch his face into her bones.
Then she turned and ran off in a hurry.
Her quick footsteps were soon out of earshot.
Just like that.
One day.
Two days.
Three days.
Bai Qing’er did not reappear. As thought that isolated cave would be left with only Gu Changqing forever.
Until the tenth day.
Gu Changqing was a little delirious when he saw a figure standing in front of him.
She was wearing a veil over her face.
Her fists were tightly clenched.
She opened one hand to reveal a flame. This flame burned very strongly, like the true fire of the sun.
Her palm was already bloodied. This flame had left a burn wound that would be hard to get rid of.
She let go of the flame and it landed on Gu Changqing.
The two flames seemed to be fighting and swallowing each other.
A few moments later, the demonic flame on Gu Changqing’s body disappeared. Those flames were gone too.
She opened her other hand to reveal a blue pearl.
This pearl was like a pearl made from ancient blocks of ice. It emanated freezing power all around it.
Even the spacetime around it was frozen.
And her fair palm seemed to have frozen too. Her palm was covered in frightening, deep wounds!
