Mentioning the recent days’ warfare, many of the Dragon Clan showed expressions of irritation.
“Sigh, these days the Youming clan has been like madmen, constantly assaulting the rifts, leaving us not a moment of peace.”
“Indeed, our Dragon kin stationed at the rifts are constantly ambushed. In these days our Dragon casualties have become immeasurable.”
“The hateful Youming clan — we’ve been at an impasse with them for so many years, how can they still be so frenzied!”
“Ah, when will these days ever come to an end?”
The gathered cultivators showed annoyance, grumbling angrily.
The Dragon Clan and the Youming clan had been in a stalemate for countless eras.
In many Dragons’ memories, ever since the Dragon Clan’s history began, they had been stalemated with the Youming clan.
Suppressing the Youming clan and guarding the rifts was the Dragon Clan’s destiny passed down through generations.
Therefore, whenever this eternal war was brought up, bitterness was inevitable. Born into ceaseless fighting, they naturally grew weary and could not hide their exhaustion!
Mu Nanzhi listened to the Dragons and immediately stepped forward.
Her golden armor gleamed, her red robe dazzling. The moment she stood up she became the focus of everyone’s attention.
“Grandfather.”
She said to the Old Dragon King, “If you ask me, we might as well storm in and eradicate the threat once and for all.”
Hearing Mu Nanzhi’s words, a clear stir showed in the Old Dragon King’s eyes.
Other Dragon Great Emperors were also affected. Streaks of excitement flickered in their gazes.
The Old Dragon King scrutinized everyone. Though tempted internally, he did not hastily speak.
Instead he looked toward another Half-Step to Immortal Dragon King standing beside him.
This Dragon pondered for a moment and said, “Zhi’er’s proposal is not without merit. Our Dragon Clan has fought for years and lacks new generations. How long can we old bones hold on? If our old bones die out, one day our Dragon Clan will be unable to resist the Youming clan.”
“Now that the Heavenly Palace and our Dragon Clan are allied and our strength has greatly increased, this is precisely the time to permanently eliminate the Youming clan.”
Qin Yuan, the Heavenly Palace’s general, also voiced his stance, “What the Dragon King says is reasonable. The Heavenly Palace indeed shares this intent.”
As commander of the Heavenly Court’s myriad forces, he was never one to be content with the status quo.
If they could annihilate the Youming clan, Qin Yuan would become a great contributor to the advancement of peace of this world. With such achievements, the Heavenly Emperor would surely regard him more highly. Perhaps, who knows, he might even be able to inherit the Heavenly Emperor’s position.
In an instant, Mu Nanzhi’s proposal won the agreement of the vast majority of cultivators.
Just then, a female cultivator stood up.
She was a Dragon Clan cultivator, and also a Heavenly Emperor-level existence.
The woman was extremely beautiful, like a goddess stepping out of a painting. A pair of blue Dragon horns added a touch of sanctity. She wore a battle robe, heroic and dashing.
There was some resemblance between her brows and Mu Nanzhi’s. In terms of beauty she in no way lost to Mu Nanzhi, but compared to Mu Nanzhi, her eyes held more steadiness.
“Father, this must not be done!”
The woman stood and retorted, “The Youming clan’s ability to stalemate our Dragon Clan for eons shows their foundation is in no way inferior to ours.”
“If we charge out to kill them, not to mention we don’t know the full depth of the Youming clan’s foundation, in the outer domains we are ignorant of the environment and unaware of how many dangers lie within; any assault would be too risky.”
“With the slightest misstep, our Dragon Clan would risk destruction, and the mission our ancestors strove to uphold in guarding the rifts for generations would be squandered!”
The Old Dragon King fell silent, still saying nothing, weighing the gains and losses.
Mu Nanzhi stepped forward again and said to the woman, “Aunt, you are being far too indecisive!”
“With the Dragon Clan united with our Heavenly Palace, we can sweep across the entire Beixuan. Great Emperors are innumerable, would-be Emperors are as common as cattle—how could we be defeated?!”
“Moreover, over these years the Dragon Clan’s foundation has waned. Compared to my childhood, our foundation is but a fraction of what it was. Coupled with the Dragons’ powerful bloodline, offspring are hard to breed and hard to sustain.”
“If this stalemate continues, our Dragon Clan will be worn to death sooner or later!”
“This battle must be fought! If we remain indecisive, we will doom the Dragon Clan and betray the mission entrusted by our ancestors!”
Complexity flashed in the woman’s eyes. “Zhi’er, you are inexperienced and should not speak so much. This matter is of great consequence and cannot be decided lightly.”
Annoyance crossed Mu Nanzhi’s face. She hated being looked down on due to her age.
She immediately said, “If we win this battle, the Dragon Clan can recuperate and before long will be the number one celestial clan in the world.”
“But if we don’t fight, the Dragon Clan’s foundation will one day be exhausted. Aunt, do you not think of the younger generations? Do you want our descendants to be born and raised in endless slaughter?!”
The woman wanted to say more.
But she was interrupted by the Old Dragon King, “Enough!”
This kind Old Dragon King finally displayed the dignity due a clan leader. He looked at the woman and said solemnly, “This matter is decided, Long Kui, do not speak further.”
“Father…”
A deep worry flashed in Long Kui’s eyes.
The Old Dragon King waved his hand to stop her. “Do not waver the clan’s heart. If you do not wish to fight, then stay in the Dragon Palace.”
A hint of pride flashed in Mu Nanzhi’s eyes and she said coldly, “Aunt, our Dragon Clan is the greatest clan in this world—how can we fear battle!”
The woman called Long Kui truly became angry.
“Zhi’er!”
In the end she said no more. She was so angry, she got up and left.
From beginning to end, Gu Changqing did not express any stance. Of course, with Mu Nanzhi around, his opinion wouldn’t matter anyway.
…
Soon, a battle in the outer domains began.
Forces from the Dragon Palace and the Heavenly Palace gathered. Staring at the vast army, they brought more reassurance to the Old Dragon King’s heart.
The Dragon Clan had many powerful beings, but celestial soldiers and generals like those of the Heavenly Palace were rare.
Together they complemented each other’s weaknesses.
“We shall depart now.”
As the Dragon Palace’s war drums beat, the Old Dragon King led the army into the temporal rift.
Gu Changqing merely leaned at the Dragon Palace’s gate, like an unnoticed presence.
However, at that moment Mu Nanzhi noticed this unnoticed figure.
“You don’t need to go!”
Mu Nanzhi showed disdain and said coldly, “You’re a Quasi-Emperor, so if you go, will you protect me or will I protect you?”
“I might end up having to look after you. And if you die, my father would hold me accountable!”
Having said that, she strode away.
When Qin Yuan passed Gu Changqing, he quietly said, “Stay here! If you dare follow, I can assure you that my enemy today will not be limited to the Youming clan.”
His eyes were full of warning as he gave Gu Changqing a long, intent look.
