Sometimes coincidence produces something enormous and unexpected. Like Nobel surviving a near-death crisis and making dynamite from nitroglycerin.
And coincidence can have unexpected effects not only on objects but on people and their relationships.
Social critic, relationship expert, flirtatious baron.
Entering her second year, Violentia found each day new. Things so common they were taken for granted felt fresh and grateful to her.
She woke and checked the bed sheets. Clean. How thankful she was!
She changed into comfortable clothes, drank water, ate breakfast, and though sometimes her stomach felt uneasy while practicing magic, it was fine now.
She didn’t have to dash to the bathroom, didn’t have to live in constant tension.
So she was happy these days.
In truth, she hadn’t known this joy until she entered the ‘Battlefield of the Gods’.
She hadn’t realized how blessed it was to spend three or four hours practicing magic in one place, nor how happy it was to go wherever she wanted without discomfort.
That morning was the same as usual.
She opened her eyes, checked the sheets and felt grateful, felt grateful while preparing breakfast, and was eating when—
Violentia’s expression, sunk in happiness and everyday gratitude, suddenly went cold.
An object that hadn’t been there moments before lay on her artifact crafting table. Bright red, unmistakably noticeable.
She rose slowly, spread a lot of mana around, and walked to the artifact table.
She spread mana over a wide area, even outside the house, but found nothing unusual.
A red paper. Before unfolding the fairly large sheet folded neatly three times, Violentia plastered defensive magic over her whole body.
Shield, magical shield, mana barrier, barrier, fire resistance, frost resistance, lightning resistance, poison resistance….
After such a long time of layering defenses that even Kim Han would have called it “a bumper crop of craziness,” she cautiously unfolded the paper.
But contrary to Violentia’s fears, nothing happened—the paper simply contained a long letter.
Yet the more she read, the more it struck her like a meteor-sized shock.
To Violentia.
I am a representative of the god who follows Serpens.
Recently, with the Dark Empire suspected as the culprit behind the plague and the Holy Realm Alliance’s mood uneasy, I was spying on the temple of Amor in Exorsus.
While monitoring Amor’s representative and several representatives, I heard something odd. I couldn’t catch it precisely, but I barely heard words like “ju-ruk ju-ruk, Serpens’ representative, humiliation, public shame, video storage crystal.”
When I tried to find out more, my concealment was discovered and I was nearly caught, but thanks to the protection of the ‘Setting’ I narrowly escaped.
I don’t know what the slut’s faction plans to do, but it seemed they might act as soon as tomorrow.
There is no time!
As you know, Violentia, for some reason Serpens ordered that you not be assisted.
But I judged the matter serious and, on my own, defied Serpens’ command and sent this letter.
So please understand I cannot reveal my name or even the God I serve.
Myself and my assisting comrades plan to infiltrate the Amor temple tomorrow, February 12, at 10:00 AM to steal what they are hiding.
If you intend to attend, Violentia, bring a crystal orb and come near the Amor temple before 10:00 AM on the 12th and infuse it with divine power. Then you will be able to communicate with me.
To prevent eavesdropping, I have prepared a short-range communication crystal for security.
My comrades and I will be lying in wait near the Amor temple—see you on the morning of the operation.
I don’t know what plot this is, but we’ll find that video crystal and expose their scheme to the world. “Ju-ruk ju-ruk” indeed… In any case, see you tomorrow.
P.S.
If you’re busy, you don’t have to come. We frequent Amor’s temple as if it’s our home, so my comrades and I can manage.
Besides, with the ‘Setting’ in place I will make sure to find and verify the crystal.
From a representative who respects Serpens.
Tremble—tremble—
As she read, Violentia’s face flushed, her hand holding the letter trembled, and the paper shook violently like reeds in a typhoon.
Do those words alone not make the content obvious?
‘ju-ruk ju-ruk, Serpens’ representative, disgrace, utter humiliation, video storage crystal.’
Rage welled up in Violentia’s chest. But there was nowhere to vent it.
How could they even have recorded her situation on video?
She was not some fool—she was a representative of the demon god Serpens and a combat race Dragonian.
It couldn’t be possible, nor could she understand it.
“Ah! Surely not… Really?”
When she first met Serpens, he told her, “That… reaction you’re having right now—if it were mere revulsion, divine holiness would have overflowed!”
“Grrr! Really, Amor—did that filthy slut scheme this?”
Goooo—
As Violentia truly grew angry, nearby furniture and tools began to levitate into the air.
A stage where she could naturally unleash and withdraw that force.
Proof that Violentia—whose talent was unmatched—was genuinely enraged.
She wiped the smile from her face, ground her teeth like a warrior before battle, and began taking items from her magic pouch to inspect them one by one.
A magic staff made of a strangely withered branch.
A deep black robe.
Three rings, a necklace, and a pair of earrings.
Like a warrior facing death, Violentia began carefully polishing each piece of equipment.
After nearly sleepless nights, Violentia moved east of Exorsus at sunrise—exactly the opposite area from where she had been staying.
Though the streets were less crowded, there were no carriages, so it took over an hour to travel.
She checked her watch as the Amor temple came into view; the hour hand had just passed nine.
Holding the communication crystal she had taken, she infused it with mana and waited for a response.
—Are you Violentia?
“Yes. Who is this?”
—I’m sorry. I have disobeyed Serpens’ command; if I reveal my name here, no matter how good the cause, I fear harm may come to my patron god, so I cannot disclose it.
“…Very well. Are you sure they have the video crystal?”
—Yes. When I was discovered, they were laughing uproariously while looking at the video crystal. I don’t know why….
“…Grr! Fine. What do you want me to do to help?”
—Actually you don’t strictly have to help….
“No, no. I want to help. But if you find the video crystal, do not play it—bring it to me.”
Violentia’s mouth opened quickly, fearing they might only tell her to watch.
—Of course. My comrade will be to your right.
When Violentia turned her head right, a figure that hadn’t been there now stood three or four steps to her right.
She hadn’t expected a being that could casually deceive her senses.
‘Well, that explains why they’re in and out of Amor’s temple.’
“Good. Your comrade will infiltrate—what should I do?”
—Cause a ruckus with me. Honestly, it’s been annoying dealing with Amor’s temple. Haha. We can relieve stress, draw attention, and smash the temple—three birds with one stone, right?
“I see.”
—Yes. I’m limited and can only use water and ice magic. Please use a similar element if possible.
“Fine. That’s doable.”
Violentia’s confident smile shone brightly beneath her hooded robe.
She would be protected by the ‘Setting’ anyway, and even without it Violentia was confident—those ragtag fools were nothing.
—Then at exactly 10:00, operation codename ‘Make the Filthy Amor Eat Dirt’ will commence.
“Hohoho. I like your style. I hope we meet again soon.”
When the clock’s hand was at the center of the ‘10’, Violentia craned her neck and approached the Amor temple gate.
About ten steps from the main gate, Violentia inhaled deeply and shouted at the top of her lungs.
“Amor, you filthy bitch! Eat dirt!”
An ice cannon smashed the temple gate and crashed inside, creating a cacophony of consecutive destruction.
Violentia looked at the statue of Goddess Amor at the gate with a look of disbelief.
“Hohoho, is Amor’s temple broke these days? How can there be no basic protective magic, let alone a barrier?”
Representatives protected by the ‘Setting’—among them are rival foes.
Representatives of the Heavenly God and their followers’ representatives.
Representatives of the demon god and their followers’ representatives.
Why these people don’t rampage at temples or magic towers during the period they’re protected by the ‘Setting’.
As Violentia said, a barrier enveloping an entire temple or magic tower cannot be broken by ordinary force.
It’s better to train during that time than to embarrass oneself and waste energy.
But to find a temple serving the Heavenly God Amor with no barrier and not even defensive magic was shocking.
Since Mae Young-ryeong was imprisoned, Amor’s temple looked intact on the surface but was rotten inside.
The mana circuits responsible for the barrier had suddenly broken, and they were too complex for anyone to easily repair.
More than half the priests had fled to the Holy Realm Alliance, and those who remained were basically muscle-bound paladins.
So they couldn’t activate a barrier or even basic defensive spells.
While others might pity the temple’s state, Violentia felt like a fish in water.
A large building without defensive magic—where else could you find something so easy to target and perfect for blowing off steam?
“Kya-hahaha. Take this! Blizzard!”
The snowstorm from above rapidly froze the building’s surroundings, and the paladins rushing out at the explosions turned to ice.
As she laughed like a madwoman at the temple’s increasing damage, someone else’s mana and ritual began to apply to the magic Violentia was casting.
Violentia tensed, thinking it might be a dispel or counterspell, but the result was the opposite.
—I’ll help too.
Each falling snowflake turned into a blue dagger that embedded in the temple walls, making minced meat of the paladins frozen into ice.
“Oh? You’re of the transmute type. Is that Sharpness?”
—Haha. It’s crude, but yes.
Violentia, her eyes sparkling like a child who’d found something amusing, announced the next spell excitedly.
“Then follow this one too. Ice Rain!”
—Yes, following.
“…Repeat Double!”
—Huh?
Violentia looked proudly at the doubled ice-rain magic she had produced. The recently perfected spell: Repeat Double.
She had devised it hoping to skip some of the calculations and ritual math for a spell just cast. This was the first success on such a large-scale magic.
She watched with interest as the foolish-sounding partner added gravity magic to her Ice Rain.
Already, the rampage of the two representatives had reduced the entrance of the largest Amor temple in Exorsus—the spiritual pillar of the Holy Realm Alliance and the Heavenly God—to ruins.
“Kya-hahahaha. Eat dirt once, eat dirt twice! Eat dirt thrice~!!”
And in that moment, the prepared madwoman awakened into a truly mad woman.
