Arun unusually woke up early and ate five raw eggs. He made chamomile tea and drank almost a liter, and chewed raw herbs said to be good for the throat.
“Aah, aaah, aaah.”
He made such a fuss that anyone might think he was auditioning for a national talent show.
Then he strutted in front of an enormous mirror in the first-floor hall. Lee Hyo-ju approached the theatrically preening Arun.
“Arun, you’re going to cover your face with a robe today and won’t be seen, so why are you looking in the mirror?”
Startled by Lee Hyo-ju’s words, Arun spun around like lightning and glared at her.
“Lies! They said I’m the most important today! I’m a secret agent!”
“Yes. So you hide your face and only appear by voice.”
“…What?! Mr. K-Kim Han! Captain!”
Lee Hyo-ju cut him off, handing Arun a note as he frantically searched for Kim Han.
“Never mind—read this. Mr. Kim Han said to take it seriously today.”
Arun took the note in a daze and opened it after a long moment. As he read, his grin broadened until it nearly reached his ears.
Today, you will be playing the role of a secret agent who controls the opponents solely through voice. Your role is to attack the Amor Temple alongside Violentia. Any representative who reveals themselves will be disqualified, get it? I trust that you will do well. The script is attached below, so please refer to it.
“As expected!”
Still, Arun praised himself for taking care of his throat from the morning.
He strode confidently to the Amor Temple, arriving just after nine o’clock.
He glanced around just in case, but couldn’t tell where the legion members were hiding.
‘Still, I rolled the highest number on the luck dice today,’ he thought.
Arun firmly believed the luck fairy was on his side and waited for Violentia to arrive.
When Violentia finally appeared, he was sure she exuded perfect mystery, and he adapted her magic as perfectly as he could.
That was until that crazy woman started casting her absurd spells…
Then follow this one: Ice Rain.
“Yes, following.”
Nice confident voice. Arun worried that the demon god’s representative might fall for him because of it…?
…Repeat double!
“Huh?”
There was no way.
Arun scrambled to add gravity to the ice rain that was pouring down twice as much.
He cut the channel and hurriedly began the formula and calculations.
“Damn! Transmute. Gravity. Set range… compute… done! Huff, huff.”
Kuuuung!
The Amor Temple was torn apart in places as if under bombardment.
Just as he was about to admire the magnificent magic he had enacted, the insane woman’s barrage began, like a worker caught relaxing by their leader after toiling; she couldn’t bear to see Arun rest.
“Kyahahahaha. Eat this once, eat it twice! Eat it three times~!!”
As if emptying out an enormous bag that women carry obsessively, water and ice magics of every sort poured out rapidly.
Arun couldn’t keep up with all of them, so he transmuted the most noticeable spells.
He added sharpness to the ice storm, penetration to cannon-type spells, and increased explosive force to core magics to spread additional damage.
If not for the mana core stabilized by ‘Lake’s Stability’ and the extraordinary talent ‘Rapid Current,’ the speed would have been impossible to even mimic.
Sweat soaked Arun’s face hidden beneath the robe.
If it weren’t for the World Tree staff Kim Han had made, his rapidly dwindling mana might have caused him to collapse embarrassingly.
But unlike Arun, Violentia was finally blowing off steam after a long time.
In fact, after entering the Battlefield of the Gods and fighting an earth dragon with high magic resistance, she had the worst time.
How many days over the past year had she been consumed by self-loathing!
She had recently developed a legendary artifact and was living with some peace, until sudden trouble erupted. Amor, because of that rag of a goddess.
When she first arrived here, her anger flared so much that her hands shook.
But now she could confidently say there had been no moment so relieving and exhilarating since entering the Battlefield of the Gods.
Moreover, the support from that representative who followed surprisingly well gave her a rare sense of impact for a mage, literally the pleasure of smashing things.
The stress that had built up in drizzle-like drops vanished along with the collapsing temple, what a relief.
She wanted to keep this man who was only heard by voice by her side for the rest of the time and even feed him to raise him.
An unexpected chemistry between Violentia and Arun!
For Arun, the endless labor pain,
For Violentia, a sense of liberation and joy,
And finally, for the gods and people who followed Amor, and her representative Benialis, it brought disaster.
While wrecking the temple, Violentia spotted the haughty statue of a woman still holding a rope and sword, her eyes shining as she flashed a mischievous smile.
“Kyahahahaha. Hey, you’re still there, huh?”
…Yes.
“Then this time, do it with Sharpness.”
…Yess.
“Hehehehe. Ice Cutter, cutter, cutter again.”
The ice blades spawned from Violentia’s hand spun fiercely and flew toward the Amor goddess statue.
With Arun’s Sharpness added, the three blades’ cutting power peaked: one flew into the chest and turned it into a male chest, another severed the wrist holding the sword.
And the last one passed boldly between the statue’s planted legs and carved out ‘something.’
“Kyahahaha. As expected, a rag goddess indeed. Hohohohoho. Ohohohoho.”
Violentia cut up a thick stone pillar lying about and injected mana into it.
Then she dragged a faintly blue-glowing club and began to approach the Amor goddess statue.
Seeing that, Arun felt as if the Amor goddess statue was trembling.
While Arun and Violentia busied themselves with wrecking the temple and carving the Amor statue with unexpected chemistry, Naruan moved deeper into the temple.
Naruan, infiltrating like an assassin, was not the loud, exaggerated mover she usually was.
Her movements were agile and smooth, and not even the sound of her feet touching the floor could be heard.
Each step down the temple’s wide corridors sent shocks through the structure, but Naruan silently advanced, watching ahead and around.
As she progressed, Naruan heard screams of men and women mixed together.
“Wh-What on earth!”
“Get away—eek!”
“D-Damn! Where do we go…!”
“Aagh!”
“G-Go together!”
She hurried toward the sounds and rounded a corner to find five men and women panicking in what looked like a break room as the temple shook.
There was one paladin, a man in a cleric’s robe, and three others dressed shabbily like workers.
After identifying them, Naruan gave the floor a light kick, twisted her rising body, pushed off the wall, and leapt again.
With two springing steps she reached from the corridor corner to the break room; Naruan’s position was above the paladin’s head, on the ceiling.
As soon as her foot hit the ceiling, she lightly kicked off it.
As she descended, the huge scythe, her weapon, appeared from her pocket, and Naruan’s scythe, amplified by gravity and force, swept lightly from the paladin’s crown down to his groin.
Thud—
The paladin’s body split cleanly in half and collapsed to either side. Beside him was a small figure in a black robe.
As they registered what had happened, ripping screams filled the break room.
“Huh?”
“Kyaaa!”
“W-What is that!”
“Ugh!”
Panicked, they huddled and backed away. Naruan smiled in satisfaction at their fear and swung her huge scythe widely.
Tutututuk—
The scythe, like the kind the Reaper supposedly carries, truly became a reaper’s and sent four necks rolling across the floor with one sweep.
Four heads rolled aimlessly; four bodies collapsed almost simultaneously.
Five lives vanished in the blink of an eye, leaving headless corpses and halves spouting blood.
And beside them, the small figure in a black robe cheerfully wiped blood off the scythe and smiled brightly.
‘Hehe. The commander, no, the boss, told me to kill them all. I’ll be praised later for sure.’
Naruan vanished again and continued advancing into the temple.
How many priests and paladins had she killed along the way?
Follow the trail of severed necks and you could trace Naruan’s path; more had died from her ambushes than from Violentia and Arun’s magic.
At last she reached the lavish door Hazel had specially marked.
She carefully opened the door and checked inside, but unexpectedly there was no one.
‘Hm?’
Papers scattered on the walls and desks remained untouched. Everything showed no signs of being cleared.
Contrary to Lee Hyo-ju’s expectations, there were no signs of tidying inside.
‘Oops! Now is not the time. Hehe.’
Naruan rummaged through her magic-pouch-like pants pocket for a while and pulled something out: a video storage crystal orb.
She activated the orb and began recording.
First she filmed the room around her, then photographed the maps and documents pinned to the walls one by one.
In the background the roaring noises, the temple’s tremors, and faint screams could be heard.
The orb captured all the sounds as it filmed until every remaining document had been shot.
When she finished, she stored the video orb separately and stuffed the documents into her magic pouch.
Before long the room looked as if someone had cleaned it.
Naruan licked her lips at the gold and gems embedded in the walls and surroundings, slipped a few into her pocket, and left quickly with an innocent expression as if she had done nothing.
As soon as she stepped into the corridor, Naruan shouted loudly enough to make it resonate.
“Hazel, I’m done!”
Naruan flapped her short arms on the spot as she shouted; to an unaware onlooker, the sight might arouse pity for how such a child became like that.
At that moment Naruan’s figure vanished from the corridor.
Through the open door, the lavish room had fallen silent; the scattered documents were gone and gems had vanished from places here and there.
An alley a short distance from the Amor Temple.
Naruan suddenly appeared in the dead-end alley as if rising from the ground.
“Wow! This is amazing! Whoosh—it’s like swish!”
Naruan admired and whirled around so her chubby cheeks trembled, but Hazel sat with eyes closed, focusing, showing no reaction to Naruan’s words.
“Good work.”
“Oh? Ice Witch! Hehe. Ta-da! This.”
To Lee Hyo-ju’s ‘good work,’ Naruan presented the video storage orb and a bundle of documents.
Lee Hyo-ju smiled maternally, praised her again, put the orb aside, and placed all the documents into a small box.
“Well done. Now stay by Hazel’s side and protect her. That’s Mr. Kim Han’s order.”
“Ah! Yes! I’ll do it!”
Naruan answered boldly, shrugged off her blood-splattered black robe, put on another black robe, drew a scythe as big as herself, and stood guard.
Finding the sight cute, Lee Hyo-ju chuckled softly, picked up the box of documents, and hurried off somewhere.
