And so, the journey of Ril and me began.
Our first destination was the Dwarven Kingdom.
“What kind of place is the Dwarven Kingdom?” Ril asked.
Had she not heard about it from Grandfather?
“Apparently, it’s a nation situated at the foot of a mountain range. They grew powerful by processing iron from the mines to craft weapons and armor.”
“Doesn’t sound like there would be much delicious food there,” Ril remarked, looking a bit disappointed.
But it wasn’t just a simple mining city.
“We won’t know if the food is good or bad until we get there, but since it’s also a trading hub, they might have delicacies from other countries, you know?”
“Then I’m looking forward to it.”
Ril started wagging her tail again. Come to think of it, has her personality changed a bit?
“Hey, Ril. Hasn’t your character changed lately?”
“Rather than changed, it might be more accurate to say I can finally be my true self.”
“Your true self? Were you really that childish?”
“Well, yes. Being a ‘Lady’ is unexpectedly hard work. I had to stay sharp in front of everyone, act like a stoic loner, and never spoil myself with anyone.”
“And now?”
“I want to flirt and act spoiled with Ryu!”
With that, she clung to my arm.
Um, excuse me, Miss Ril. I can feel something soft pressing against my arm, you know? Not that I’m going to point it out and out myself as a closet pervert.
Oblivious to my wicked thoughts, she even started nuzzling her cheek against my shoulder.
Actually, when I thought about it, it wasn’t that different from usual. I used to sleep with Ril’s belly as a pillow all the time. Back then, Ril would always curl up and nuzzle her face against me too. It was just that now, since Ril was in human form, our heights were reversed. I had become the taller one, and she had become smaller. That was probably why it felt like this.
When I looked at it that way, it was no big deal.
“Hold it right there, you bastards!!”
Oh, humans! It had been a while since I’d seen any humans other than myself.
“Leave all your luggage right there and get lost!”
About ten men surrounded us.
“Are they your acquaintances, Ryu?”
“No, no. These people are called bandits. They’re the type who come to steal other people’s belongings without permission.”
“Heh. Are they impressive?”
“Not at all.”
“What the hell are you two chatting about so casually?! Hey!!”
The man who seemed to be Bandit A shouted.
“Boss, let’s just strip ’em of everything already!”
“We can sell the girl as a slave!”
Bandit B and C egged on Bandit A.
“You’re right. Let’s do this, boys! Kill the brat! Don’t kill the girl, though!!”
“YEAH!!”
The group of bandits charged at us.
“What do you want to do, Ril?”
I asked just for the sake of it. Well, I already knew the answer.
“If they intend to kill us, let us grant them the favor of death in return.”
“Roger that~”
I activated my skill, ‘Physical Ability Enhancement,’ and punched the nearest bandit with all my might. To be more precise, I punched him in the chest. Specifically, to stop his heart.
As expected, he stopped moving instantly.
“What did you do!?”
It was a pain, but I stopped the hearts of about half of them in the same way. It was only then that they finally seemed to realize my actual strength.
“Th-this kid is strong!”
“Then use the girl as a hostage—!?”
Good grief. Idiots. Trying to lay a hand on Ril, who was even stronger than me.
Wait, she’s in human form now—I wondered what her combat capabilities were like. I watched her to see what would happen.
“Do not touch me, you inferior species.”
Ah, she shredded them with her usual slashes.
Ril’s specialty was a combination of her own claws and gale-force wind magic. Apparently, Grandfather was the one who originally created this technique, so any Fenrir could do it. However, when it came to this specific technique alone, Ril was actually stronger than Grandfather.
Long story short, Ril killed all the remaining survivors.
“Humans really are weak.”
“Don’t say that. There are strong ones and weak ones; it just depends on the individual within the race.”
“And what are you taking from those people, Ryu?”
“Money. Just money. I have to take at least enough to cover the ‘nuisance fee’ for our trouble.”
“You’re a bad man, Ryu. A bad man.”
“Do you hate me now?”
“Nope. I love you!”
“Then there’s no problem.”
The journey of these two slightly eccentric travelers continued, with about three days left until they reached the Dwarven Kingdom.
