I was finally able to enter the country.
Still, were the monster materials from the center of the Central Forest really that rare? There should have been plenty of small fry mixed in that even I could hunt alone.
“You took your time, Ryu.”
“Mark? You were waiting for me!”
Crap, I totally assumed he wouldn’t wait.
“Was there some kind of trouble? Since all sorts of people visit this country, the screening is certainly strict, but I was worried because it was taking so long.”
“No, sorry. It seems checking the materials just took some time.”
“I see. You did mention you came to sell monster hides, after all.”
“Also, I know it’s a bit brazen of me to ask, but could you tell me where the Adventurer Guild is?”
“I don’t mind. I am also interested in your leather.”
“Then I’ll pay you with that leather as a reward.”
“A reward? It’s just a simple bit of directions. As a ‘Merchant,’ I prefer to create my own rewards.”
Ah, what a good person. I’m glad the first human I’ve spent time with in a while is such a nice guy.
“Then, it’s this way.”
With Mark acting as my guide, we headed for the Adventurer Guild.
“Alright, we’ve arrived.”
“That was fast!”
It was way closer than I imagined.
“I heard it was built near the entrance so that people could complete and report requests at the Guild immediately after entering the country.”
Mark said, holding back a laugh.
So that was it. I’m seriously red-faced.
Even so, it was a magnificent building. The walls looked like they were made of stacked stones cut directly from rock, and it even had a massive Guild crest.
“Ryu. Are we turning things into money here?”
“That’s right. We exchange hides for money here.”
“Then I’m going to go look!”
“Hey! Wait!”
Ril leaped from my arms and headed into the Guild.
“Ryu, wait for me too!”
Mark followed after us.
Once inside, there were unexpectedly few people. It felt rather sparse.
“Everyone is out working during the day. They all come back around evening.”
So that meant everyone was currently on the job.
More importantly, where was Ril… there. She was right there, perhaps startled by the number of people.
“Hey, don’t just run off on your own.”
I gently caught her and picked her up. I get that everything is novel to you, but please behave.
“Ryu. Are there always this many humans?”
“They say this is actually on the low side.”
“…I see.”
She still seemed surprised. Man, she’s cute.
“Ryu. The appraisal counter is over here.”
Mark called out to me while beckoning.
There were several reception counters.
One was General Reception. This was where people who weren’t Guild members, like me, could post requests.
Next was Adventurer Reception. The place where adventurers completed or reported their requests.
The last was the Purchase Counter. A place that bought materials from monsters or animals that weren’t related to a specific request.
Since I was selling materials this time, it would be the last counter.
“Hello, welcome to the Fall Crown Branch. How can we help you today?”
“I’d like to have these materials appraised for purchase…”
Come to think of it, the country wanted some materials too. In that case, one piece from a small fry would do.
What I pulled out was the hide of a “Giant Boar,” a complete set from one animal.
It was a seriously massive boar that grows to about eight meters in length. Something of this level shouldn’t be a problem.
“I’m selling this.”
“P-please wait a moment.”
Huh? They went somewhere again. A Giant Boar is just a big pig, right?
“Ryu. Where on earth did you bring this from!?”
“Where? It’s just a normal boar hide.”
“It’s not just normal! A Giant Boar is an A-rank monster! You can’t treat it the same as the boars around here!!”
It seemed my common sense had dulled during my life in the Great Forest. To think that something like a Giant Boar was treated as a powerful foe by human standards…
“About how much would that single hide be worth?”
Mark thought it over.
“Perhaps around 50 to 60 gold coins?”
50 to 60!? That’s an amount I could live on while playing around for a while. To think one boar could earn 50 to 60 coins.
“Thank you for waiting. Would 62 gold coins be acceptable for one Giant Boar pelt?”
62!? That’s higher than Mark’s estimate!
“Y-yes, that’s fine.”
“Thank you very much. Here are 62 gold coins, please confirm.”
Six stacks of ten gold coins and two loose gold coins were placed down. I’ve never seen such a large sum of money before.
“Yes, it’s all here.”
“Thank you very much, please come again.”
I ended up getting my hands on a fortune in an unexpected way.
“Let’s go eat something delicious soon!”
“Yes, yes, I get it, so just calm down.”
“That’s right, Mark, would you like to go eat together? I can treat you to all sorts of things right now.”
“A-ah, thank you. I’ll take you up on that, then.”
Well, I’ve secured my funds. Does the remaining problem lie with the King tomorrow?
