Another month had passed since then.

Thanks to Karin’s flames, the work on Grandfather’s fang progressed surprisingly smoothly.

Dowal and Dolf hammered at it again and again, steadily bringing it closer to completion.

Incidentally, Dolf’s leather armor was finished first.

It was a sturdy set of clothes tailored perfectly to my physique.

In fact, as a test, I wore the armor while sparring with Ril. It didn’t tear at all; rather, it protected me so well from Ril’s attacks that she ended up looking quite frustrated.

Naturally, it was also built to withstand Karin’s flames.

I stood under a barrage of fire for about an hour, but the material never even scorched.

Dolf spoke proudly about the “Thermal Fluctuation Nullification” property of the armor.

The main feature of “Thermal Fluctuation Nullification” was its ability to negate any effects caused by temperature. In other words, the concepts of “hot” and “cold” ceased to apply.

A fire attack’s primary source of damage was “heat,” while an ice attack’s primary source was “heat absorption”; this skill neutralized both.

Simply put, fire and ice attacks wouldn’t work on me.

Of course, while the cold wouldn’t drain my body heat, physical strikes from ice pillars would still hurt.

It wasn’t a perfect defense, but it apparently boosted my survivability significantly.

By the way, this skill was granted through the use of Karin’s feathers.

When Karin heard this, she looked incredibly pleased with herself.

Finally, the day the dagger would be finished drew near.

“There, that should do it.”

Dowal slid the dagger into its sheath.

“Is it finished, then?”

“Yeah, it’s done!”

Whoa! This was my dagger! Oh man, I was getting seriously pumped up!

“Wait, isn’t this dagger a bit strange?”

“In what way?”

“It only has an edge on one side.”

Not only that, the side without the edge had a distinct curve to it.

“This is a design called a Wakizashi,1 a technique I learned from someone from the Eastern Nations. You asked me to prioritize sharpness, didn’t you?”

I see, so this style had a better edge.

“Want to try a test cut right away?”

“Yeah, let me give it a go.”

It had been a long time since I felt this excited.

I was going to test this blade out immediately.
