“I know something’s missing, but figuring out the priority is difficult.”
“I see.”
Aria nodded at Kikori’s honest answer and smiled. “Then let me explain.”
“There are broadly four roles in a party: vanguard, rear guard, healer, and supporter.”
The vanguard are warriors who handle various weapons. Kikori’s berserker is also classified here.
Fighting at the front, attacking and defending… it can be divided endlessly, but that’s the basic idea.
The rear guard includes archers and mages.
The healer is the priest… in other words, Kuon. Apothecaries also fall under this, but thinking mainly of priests is fine.
And the supporter is “everything else.” Porters who carry luggage and trap specialists who set or disarm traps are also included here.
“So… we need a rear guard or supporter?”
“Roughly speaking, yes. Ideally, it’d be nice if a hunter who also has some supporter skills would join… but people like that are veterans, so they’re popular.”
Tracking skills, quick situational judgment, understanding of environment and terrain, simple trap setting and disarming, mapping ability, high-level bow skill, some cooking ability, and material processing techniques… they say just having one in the party makes a huge difference, but naturally that’s the culmination of long training, so they usually join famous parties.
“Well, Kikori is still a beginner… so having an archer join and eventually grow into a hunter is also an option.”
“I see. That’s an option too.”
“They might get scouted away once they reach that level though…”
“Ugh.”
“Well, you can also rely on feeling for that kind of thing, Kikori. The standard choice isn’t always the right one.”
After all, Kikori himself was a berserker.
He thought it would indeed be strange to demand normality from others while he himself was outside the norm.
To begin with, was a hunter truly what they needed?
Rather than playing defensively… maybe what they needed was an offensive mindset?
Thinking that, Kikori glanced at Aria.
“Hm?”
“If your mana abnormality could be cured, I’d definitely want to invite you, Aria-san.”
“I see, that could be one correct answer. Though it’s not something that heals easily.”
“There is a possibility!?”
“Huh!? If you ask whether there is or not, there is… but it’s at the level where even I gave up back then.”
Anyway, Aria brought the topic back.
“Putting me aside, I think further strengthening your attack power is also a valid option. Try thinking about it in various ways.”
