The three of them proceeded onward… but a small problem arose.
“Ah, gob—”
Before Kuon finished speaking, Kikori “launched” forward and split the goblin in two with the Magic Axe.
And after finishing, Kikori exclaimed, “Ah.”
“Sorry… I did it again.”
“Well, you are reliable though.”
Yes, whenever he spotted a monster, Kikori reflexively attacked and defeated it.
Even when he tried not to, his body moved the moment he saw a monster.
It moved as if such a system had been built into his body.
“This is bad. It feels like some kind of limiter’s come off.”
“Well, you’re a berserker, so it’s correct in a way. But attacking without question feels different.”
“I don’t think it’s exactly without question. When I think ‘I can finish it in one hit,’ my body just moves.”
“That’s actually scary.”
“Right? More importantly… like this, Eil doesn’t get a turn…”
It was supposed to be Eil’s trial, so it wouldn’t help if only Kikori kept fighting.
Still… it would feel awful if Eil got caught off guard and was skewered by a Horned Rabbit.
They hadn’t confirmed any of that yet.
“I think it’ll be fine. This outfit and hat have chain woven into them, so attacks from a Horned Rabbit won’t easily kill me.”
“I’m not doubting that, but…”
“Wait, isn’t that heavy?”
“It’s super heavy! I’ve got all sorts of things built in too!”
She laughed, then returned to a serious face.
“Still, at this rate I can’t demonstrate my usefulness…”
“Sorry about that.”
“No, saying ‘I’m useful!’ against goblins feels off too.”
“Then a hobgoblin?”
When Kikori asked, Eil nodded. “Yes.”
“If I can defeat a hobgoblin alone, you’ll acknowledge I have the ability to join, right?”
“I think that’s fine.”
“I agree.”
“Then it’s settled!”
Nodding, Eil took something from inside her coat.
It looked like a compass with a string attached…
“Huh? Is that a mana detector?”
“That’s right. An opponent like a hobgoblin has strong mana. If I search with this…”
The spinning needle suddenly stopped, and Eil shouted, “That way!”
Whether it was a magic item or something else created through alchemy, they didn’t know.
Without understanding that part, Kikori and the others walked in that direction.
And sure enough, they found a hobgoblin holding a greatsword there.
“Gi? GIOOOOOOOOOOOO!”
As the hobgoblin noticed them and roared, Kikori prepared his Magic Axe—yet Eil briskly walked past him.
Then inside the coat she flipped open—
Countless tools and test tubes were stored there.
“Now, allow me to show you… the way an alchemist fights!”
