Yuu Isshiki encountered a beautiful girl with a “white gyaru” look.
But she had him right where she wanted him. With a staged photo that made it look like he was sexually harassing her, she had him framed.
Then she revealed who she really was. “I am Toko’s younger sister, Honoka Sakurajima.”
She had two demands. The first came cold and sharp:
“Break up with Toko.”
“…“
“I’m not just telling you to break up. You can find a different girlfriend. I’ll take responsibility and look after you.”
“You… how can you say that so easily…”
“It’ll be fine. Besides, this leads into my second demand.”
…What demand?…
I stared at her, suspicion written all over my face. Honoka smiled and answered.
“Isshiki-san, you have to date Meika Ishida!”
“Hah!?”
A shout of pure, unadulterated shock escaped me.
Why was Meika’s name even being brought up?
Seeing my reaction, Honoka laughed mischievously.
“Don’t look so surprised. We’ve been classmates since middle school and go to the same high school. I’ve heard plenty about you from Meika.”
I was stunned. Small world—or whatever you wanted to call it. Meika was a second-year, and so was this girl. Since Toko-senpai and Ishida grew up in the same area, it wasn’t strange for them to know each other.
Honoka’s grin widened.
“Though I never imagined Meika’s favorite person would end up being my sister’s boyfriend. To be honest, now that I’ve met you, Big Bro, I’m a little disappointed. I imagined someone way more impressive.”
She spread her hands and shrugged in a very Western gesture. She had an incredible amount of nerve, saying whatever she pleased.
Yet, for some reason, her insults didn’t make me that angry. There was a more pressing problem right in front of me.
“Listen, Meika and I aren’t like that. She’s my best friend’s little sister. I could never lay a hand on someone like her, you know?”
Suddenly Honoka’s face went dead serious.
“Best friend’s sister, brother’s best friend—none of that matters. If you like someone, you like them. It’s as simple as that. And Meika has liked you for a long time.”
She crossed her arms and planted her feet, striking a stance that made her look even more like Toko-senpai.
“Meika is someone I can truly call my best friend. She’s wonderful. Even someone like me can be honest and sincere when I’m with her. I don’t want to see her sad.”
Then she pointed at me with a sharp, emphatic motion.
“So, Isshiki-san, you ‘break up with Sis and date Meika.’ That’s the best outcome for everyone. It’s decided!”
“Don’t decide things for me!”
I turned to walk away. I couldn’t deal with this anymore.
“I wonder… is it really okay if I show this photo to Sis?”
My feet stopped instantly.
“That’s not all. If my dad finds out, it’ll be a disaster. It might even become a police matter.”
Dammit. Had I already fallen completely into her trap?
Honoka caught up and fell into step beside me.
“I’m telling you this for your own good—just do as I say. Nobody loses, and in the end, it’s the best way.”
“You hate the idea of me being with your sister, but you’re okay with me being with your best friend?” I barked, glaring.
“Yeah. You and Meika seem like a good match. You’re a bit unreliable, so you feel safe. But most importantly, Meika loves you.”
Hearing that left a bad taste in my mouth. By her logic, Toko-senpai didn’t actually love me.
We walked in silence for a while. For some reason Honoka kept pace beside me. Before I knew it, Kaihimmakuhari Station was in sight.
“Hey, the thing about losing your phone was a lie, wasn’t it? If so, you should be able to go home now.”
I meant it as a hint—go away. But Honoka pressed on.
“First of all, give me your contact info. Phone number, email, and social media ID.”
“Why the hell should I give them to you?”
“Because otherwise I have no way to reach you. You wouldn’t want me to leak that photo to Sis without warning, right?”
Reluctantly, I pulled up my number and email and showed them.
As Honoka entered them into her phone, she asked, “Isshiki-san, you still haven’t given up on Sis, have you?”
I didn’t answer. A theatrical sigh followed.
“Fine. I’ll give you a one-week grace period. Use that time to sort out your feelings.”
“How do you have the right to decide that!?” I snapped, unable to hide my irritation.
She waved her phone like it was nothing.
“Don’t forget the photo!”
If I kept arguing, I’d only get dragged deeper into this. I stared straight ahead.
Honoka kept talking.
“I mean, even if you call yourselves ‘lovers,’ you haven’t actually done anything, right? Not even a kiss. Then it’s fine. Just break up already.”
Just how much did this girl know?
Whatever the case, it wasn’t the time to fight. I knew nothing about Honoka or what she knew about me. You can’t win a battle without information on your opponent.
Suddenly Honoka stepped in front of me, blocking my path.
“What now?”
“You haven’t answered my question.”
“What question?”
“That you haven’t done anything with Sis. Sex, obviously—but not even a kiss.”
“That has nothing to do with you.”
“Bullseye, then.”
She laughed, gleeful and satisfied.
“In that case, I kissed Isshiki-san first!”
“You… you call that a kiss? Our mouths just bumped into each other…”
“Yes! I beat Sis!”
Ignoring me, Honoka pumped a small fist.
“What do you mean ‘beat’… that’s nonsense…”
“Okay, I’m heading home now! Make sure you break up with Sis properly. I’ll be in touch!”
She started running toward Kaihimmakuhari Station, leaving no room for me to reply.
“Seriously, what is with that girl?”
Honoka Sakurajima. Toko-senpai’s younger sister, a second-year in high school with a personality completely unlike her sister’s.
…I might have just gotten involved with someone truly terrifying…
