“This is delicious. Hehe!”
Rurin quickly finished a bowl in no time. It was hard to believe she had been sleepy moments ago. Both Elena and the Red Dragon rolled their eyes in astonishment at her vigor.
I handed a bowl of food to Elena, and soon the dish was served to the Red Dragon as well.
“Patient, stay still! I’ll feed you, being the nice one.”
Rurin hurriedly ran to Sereina with a spoon, carefully scooping up some broth and holding it out to her.
“Open up! Red!”
“What? Oh?”
Normally, Sereina would have outright rejected Rurin’s touch, but perhaps due to the tantalizing display of eating and the aroma of the food, she opened her mouth unconsciously.
Of course, that was a mistake.
“Not giving it to you!”
With Sereina’s mouth wide open, Rurin brought the spoon to her own mouth and retreated. Thanks to this, the Red Dragon ended up looking like a baby bird with its mouth open.
Embarrassed, Sereina’s face turned red, and she shouted at Rurin.
“Hey, Black! I’m going to kill you!”
“Go ahead then? Hehehe. For an old one!”
The Black and Red started fighting again. These two are always like this.
“I’ll take Rurin back, so please take care of the meal.”
“Of course. Don’t worry.”
Elena nodded quietly, and I dragged Rurin, who was fighting with the Red Dragon, back to the dining room using gestures and actions.
But after that, Rurin’s condition was strange. She was odd the whole time I was running the business, and she remained so even after closing.
She was dazed all day long and clung to my room without any intention of leaving. It’s not unusual for Rurin to stay in my room, but today she was rolling around with a peculiar expression.
Rolling this way. Rolling that way.
Even while dazed, she glanced at me. Normally, Rurin would openly stare, so this kind of furtive glancing was out of character for her.
“You. That Red Dragon…”
“Huh?”
“Never mind…”
The strangest thing was this conversation. She initiated the talk, but when I responded, she immediately went silent again. This cycle kept repeating, and I had no idea why.
“Hey, what’s going on?”
“You!”
“Huh?”
This time, she suddenly sat up straight and started staring at me intently. Her eyes were moist. What on earth is going on with her?
“You! I don’t like any other human but you!”
Well, that’s always been the case.
Rurin and I made eye contact. Earlier, she avoided my gaze, but this time was different. She finally started to speak seriously after hesitating for so long.
“You don’t like other dragons besides me, right?”
Rurin’s eyes were filled with hesitation. The question itself was absurd. Do I dislike other dragons? Well, I neither like nor dislike them.
I do dislike the Black Dragon jerks who bullied Rurin.
What’s the intention behind this question?
Is it because of Sereina? No, just because I cooked for her?
That doesn’t seem to be it. Rurin has never shown such feelings toward other women, including Elena. Rurin doesn’t react much even when Elena and I talk closely. Of course, it might be different if she considers other races as mere stones.
With that thought, I looked at Rurin again. Whatever the intention, I didn’t want to trample on Rurin’s feelings, so I answered calmly.
“Yeah, I guess.”
Then the hesitation in Rurin’s eyes disappeared. Her eyes began to shine again. It was the usual Rurin.
“Hehe, really! I knew it!”
She seemed happy and crawled onto my bed, spreading her arms. Then she boldly demanded a hug.
“You! Can’t I sleep next to you tonight? I want you to hug me all night. I keep betting on hugs, but it doesn’t work! I fell for the earrings last time too!”
“Then don’t fall for it next time and make sure to take them. I have to work, so what are you talking about staying all day… Anyway, if I stay here like this, I can’t sleep, so go back to your room.”
“You’re so mean!”
Rurin puffed her cheeks out immediately when I refused.
She got up, turned her head abruptly as if she was sulking, and left the room. She left much faster than usual. Anyway, her condition had been strange since earlier. She would come back by dawn anyway, so what’s the point?
Time passed.
The Red Dragon recovered her health quickly within a few days.
So, I thought she would leave.
But no.
“Hehehe, elf. Your hair is nice.”
The Red Dragon stayed at the clinic, harassing Elena. The blonde Elena and the red-haired Red Dragon. Two beings with unique hair colors intertwined. Both were incredibly beautiful. It felt strange.
“If you’ve recovered, why don’t you go back to your lair? How long are you going to stay here? It’s not like I’m asking you to give up everything because I saved you.”
After pulling Elena, who was trembling as the Red Dragon attacked her hair, I asked. The Red Dragon just shrugged, her red hair flying.
Without answering, she went back to the hospital bed she had taken as her residence and started rolling around again.
It was a familiar scene.
“I’m planning to play since it turned out like this. You won’t say no, right? That’s oppression of freedom!”
“If Elena dislikes it, you can’t stay. I can’t let my friend be in trouble.”
“That’s right. Get lost, Red. Shoo shoo!”
Rurin chimed in beside me, approached Elena, and started stroking her hair like the Red Dragon did. She lifted and stroked Elena’s hair, comparing it to her own.
Why compare that?
Rurin’s hair is also very nice. Of course, there are limitations to polymorph.
So the elf’s natural blonde hair is indeed a bit softer, but saying that out loud would cause a riot.
“Is this what good hair feels like? Hmm.”
“Y-yes? Well, that is…”
Elena was pitiful, surrounded by two dragons.
“And your body hasn’t fully recovered yet. The elf said so. You need to rest for another week!”
“Really? It looks to me like she’s all better.”
No matter how you look at it, she’s a malingerer. She doesn’t look sick.
But kind Elena nodded vigorously. She was afraid but still showed mercy.
“That’s true. If you release the polymorph and return to your dragon form in your current state, it will strain your main body.”
“See! She said so!”
The Red Dragon immediately agreed, gesturing that she was innocent. It was as if being sick was a privilege.
“Then you’ll leave in a week?”
“Aren’t you asking too many questions for a human? That’s up to me!”
Wham!
“How dare you talk like that! You really don’t have your head straight for a red thing.”
Rurin, displeased with her tone, stepped in and punished her with a kick. Rurin’s flying kick landed squarely on the dragon on the bed.
Yeah, that was well done. I had no desire to stop her. Hehe.
“Ack! It hurts! You stupid little brat! If you’re not going to kill me, leave me alone. I’m also in shock from being betrayed!”
“Who’s a brat! You old hag! You! Don’t go easy on this kind of dragon.”
Rurin, her body overlapping on the bed from her kick, attempted an armbar on the Red Dragon. It wasn’t a perfect armbar. Rurin couldn’t have known joint locks.
The current move was an improvised torture technique to cause pain. It just happened to look like an armbar.
“You little…!”
The effect seemed similar as Sereina screamed. Thinking she couldn’t lose, Sereina grabbed Rurin’s hair. As the brawl was about to start, I grabbed the Red Dragon’s hand holding Rurin’s hair.
“No touching the hair. No one can touch Rurin’s hair.”
“What? This is crazy. What are you two up to? Hey! Elf! Help me!”
“Y-yes? Well, you see…”
As they say, when whales fight, the shrimp’s back gets broken. Elena started fumbling, not knowing what to do.
Of course, I’m the one who has to solve this comedic situation.
I grabbed Rurin by the scruff and pulled her off the bed. She flailed as she was dragged along.
“Why? The red old hag needs more punishment. If we go easy on her, she’ll get cocky!”
“Don’t make me laugh! How dare you, Black!”
The two dragons growled at each other. But since they weren’t actually spilling blood, I was starting to get used to this pointless fighting.
“Stop it, both of you. Stop! And you, Red, I’m El. I’d appreciate it if you stopped calling me ‘human’ all the time.”
“El? El, huh. What a strange name! Well, fine. I wouldn’t normally tell a mere human the name of the great Red Dragon, but I’ll make an exception. I am Sereina.”
“I know.”
“What! How! Why!”
Sereina raised her voice in surprise.
It’s a name that was called countless times during the last dragon fight. How could I not know?
Sereina’s eyes widened. Rurin glared at the Red Dragon and then pulled me along.
“We don’t need a name like Red. You, I’m hungry! Let’s go home.”
“Yeah, we need to get back to work.”
And after returning,
Another week passed. And then ten days. Sereina still showed no intention of leaving. She was blending into the clinic so naturally, as if she was trying to settle down in Greek City.
As a dragon who has had a lot of fun, she was very natural in that aspect.
Evaluating that naturalness, she was naturally better than Rurin. She could only be seen as human.
“The poison destroyed his brain?”
Sereina said this after returning from a check-up at the Lord’s castle with Elena.
“Hmm. I think there was a way for such cases.”
“Really? Is that true?”
“Really?”
Elena and I spoke simultaneously, not expecting such an answer from Sereina.
“But I don’t remember.”
“Not remembering is the same as having no way. Oh my, dragons really are something.”
“Hmm… Well, I’ll be staying here for a while, so I’ll tell you if I remember. Isn’t that enough?”
“That’s funny. Elena, isn’t she annoying? Be honest. I’ll kick her out of the clinic. It’s very easy to get rid of a dragon.”
I dragged Elena away from the Red Dragon’s intimidating glare and asked seriously. But surprisingly, Elena shook her head.
“Well, because of the great presence, almost no men come with other intentions…. It’s a bit more comfortable, actually…”
“Huh? Really? Then aren’t there no patients coming at all?”
“No. Only those with impure intentions can’t approach easily. Patients still visit as usual.”
“Really?”
Is it because of Dragon Fear?
I looked at the Red Dragon. As usual, she was fighting with Rurin, but her expression was innocent.
I don’t know if she wants to stay because of some ulterior motive or if she really wants to rest from the shock of betrayal, but if Elena is okay with it, I can’t interfere.
“Just let me know if you feel uncomfortable, and I’ll send her back to her lair. You’re not being threatened, right?”
“Yes! And actually… she’s quite helpful in terms of knowledge.”
The Red Dragon Sereina.
She’s a young dragon, around 1,400 years old. She has experienced a lot of fun, so she has quite a bit of knowledge.
So, she seemed to be helping in various ways. If Elena says so, I have no reason to force her out.
Everyone has the right to freedom.
