“Lady Seremees, I’ve brought Rebecca.”
“Welcome. You may sit on the sofa over there.”
“Th-thank you very much…!”
Rebecca sat stiffly on the sofa, clearly extremely nervous, and stared at Lady Seremees. She looked like she could not take her eyes off her because of how beautiful she was.
Lady Seremees really was beautiful. Even I still had not gotten used to it, so my eyes kept drifting toward her.
“You’re called Rebecca, correct? I am Seremees, the Goddess of Peace.”
“M-my name is Rebecca… It’s an honor to meet the Goddess of Peace.”
“Fufu, you don’t need to be so nervous. Please call me Seremees.”
“Y-yes, understood. Lady Seremees.”
She seemed really nervous… To help Rebecca relax, I decided to move the conversation forward right away.
“Alright Rebecca, I’ll explain everything.”
“Okay… this place is somewhere you can come to with your ability, right, Luca?”
“That’s right. It’s called the Divine Domain. With the ability called Divine Domain Interference, I can come here from anywhere. People can only exit from the place they entered, but objects can be taken in and out from anywhere, so it can also be used as a storage space.”
After that, with Lady Seremees helping me at times, I explained everything to Rebecca about what had happened since this morning and about my abilities. As she listened, Rebecca became so shocked that she eventually froze.
“This is so amazing that I can’t really process it…”
“Yeah, that’s understandable. I’ve only just started to feel like it’s real myself, so it’s natural.”
“But at least I understand that you’ve become stronger, Luca. I’ve seen how hard you’ve worked all this time, so I’m happy.”
“…Rebecca, thank you.”
“This kind of power could be frightening in the wrong hands, but if it’s you, Luca, you’ll definitely use it for good things. I’m looking forward to seeing what you accomplish.”
Rebecca still seemed a little nervous, but she smiled somewhat awkwardly as she said that. Just knowing there was someone who believed in me from the bottom of their heart was incredibly comforting… I felt warmth spread deep within my heart.
“So Rebecca, now we get to the main point. With the light magic from divine power manipulation that I mentioned earlier, it’s possible to cure illness. If you’re okay with it, I’d like to try healing your mother’s sickness.”
“…What? You can cure it? You’ll heal my mother!?”
Rebecca reacted more strongly than ever before. She jumped up from the sofa and grabbed my shoulders. Her face was filled with shock and a small spark of hope.
“I think there’s a high possibility. Lady Seremees, right?”
“Yes, unless it’s an extremely advanced illness or one that progresses very rapidly. What condition is Rebecca’s mother in?”
“…It’s been about two years since she became ill. It’s getting worse slowly but steadily. She can barely move around inside the house, but she has to lie down almost immediately.”
“In that case… I believe it should be alright, but it would be better to begin using Heal as soon as possible.”
So Rebecca had been caring for her sick mother, looking after her younger sister, earning money, and handling the household chores all this time… Rebecca was truly incredible.
Rebecca always said that I worked hard and that I was amazing, but I thought she had put in far more unseen effort than I ever had.
“Luca, please. I want you to help my mother… please!”
“Of course I’ll do everything I can. …But if it doesn’t work, I’m truly sorry. I can’t guarantee success. Divine power manipulation can only do what magic normally allows. The only difference for me is that I can keep casting Heal alone without stopping.”
“…I understand. Even so, I want to ask you. If there’s a possibility.”
Seeing Rebecca nod with tears in her eyes yet with a determined expression, I nodded back while hiding my own nervousness.
—I really want this to succeed.
“Let’s go to Rebecca’s house right away. Could your younger sister stay somewhere else for a while?”
“I can leave her with the woman next door.”
“Alright. Then your sister can stay there. What about your mother? It would be best if the healing finishes while she’s asleep.”
I had heard that curing illness with Heal depended heavily on how severe the sickness was, but generally it could be cured with several hours of continuous healing.
If it was only a few hours, there was a chance she might not wake up… but if a stranger was in her house casting magic on her, it would be strange if she did not wake up at all.
“You don’t need to worry too much about that. While illness is being cured, the body undergoes significant changes, so people generally do not wake up.”
“Is that so? That’s a relief.”
With Lady Seremees’s explanation, the issue was resolved, and I let out a relieved sigh. There were no more problems to solve.
“Then let’s return to the inn and go to Rebecca’s house right away.”
“Okay. Luca… I’m counting on you.”
I took Rebecca’s hand and activated Divine Domain Interference once again.
