After becoming a servant of the Goddess of Peace, I was led by her hand and sat down on a fluffy sofa.
I still didn’t know where this place was, but for now it looked like a pavilion standing in a vast grassland that stretched endlessly, and inside that pavilion were a pleasant-to-the-touch sofa and a luxurious table.
“Now, I had intended to explain many things… but before that, there is one thing I need to tell you. Luca, you had been carrying a curse within you—did you realize it yourself?”
With a serious expression, the Goddess of Peace peered into my face. Carrying a curse within me… so I had been cursed all along?
“…This is the first I’ve heard of it.”
“I see. But this curse is quite strong. You should have had some awareness of it… for example, your magic power being sealed, your strength becoming weak, your body not growing, and so on.”
Hearing those words, I felt a shock as if lightning had struck my body. Could it be that the reason I couldn’t do anything no matter what I tried… was because of a curse!?
“U-um, I can’t use magic at all, and no matter how much I trained I couldn’t even reach an average level, and even a sword was too heavy for me to swing properly… could that possibly mean—”
“It was because of the curse.”
—So it really was.
I didn’t know whether I should be happy that I finally understood the cause, or grieve that I had been cursed. That curse was probably the same curse from when my village was destroyed.
Even though I somehow survived, it still affected me after all.
“…Can a cursed human not become a servant?”
When I asked that, feeling dejected that I might lose the good fortune I thought I had finally gained, the goddess denied it in a light tone.
“That isn’t the case. In the first place, the moment you became a servant, the curse disappeared. It’s only natural that divine power surpasses a curse, isn’t it?”
“Then… does that mean… I might have become stronger?”
“Yes. Certainly more than before.”
“Can I try it!?”
I sprang up from the sofa, and the goddess smiled gently and nodded. After confirming that, I immediately drew the sword at my waist.
I had never been able to truly handle this sword, but I always carried it and trained every day. If the curse had been lifted and even a little of my training results were showing…
With my heart pounding, I swung the sword once, and the blade came down cleanly with many times the speed, sharpness, and steadiness I had imagined.
“Even after all that training, I couldn’t even swing a sword down properly until now…!”
“Oh my, that’s a fine sword stroke. I can tell you trained properly every day.”
Hearing those words, tears overflowed from my eyes all at once. Knowing my efforts hadn’t been wasted made me truly, truly happy.
“Th-thank you very much…!”
“I only made you my servant and lifted the curse. Your skill with the sword is the fruit of your efforts until now.”
After that, I was so happy that my body moved as I intended and that I could handle the sword as I pleased, that I kept swinging it for several dozen minutes.
When my emotions finally settled, I returned to the sofa and bowed my head properly to the goddess to apologize.
“I’m truly sorry. I got carried away on my own.”
“It’s fine. Watching you look so happy was enjoyable.”
“…Then I’m glad.”
Her warm gaze, as if watching over me, made me embarrassed and self-conscious, and I lowered my eyes. But then I looked up again at the goddess’s next words.
“Shall I explain various things now? First, about this place—this is called the Divine Domain. It is a space each god possesses, and only those I permit may enter.”
So this mysterious space was called the Divine Domain. Being in a god’s realm… I really was in an incredible place.
“Because you became my servant, Luca, you can freely come and go from this space. That is one of the abilities you gain as a servant, called Divine Domain Interference.”
Come to think of it, she said a servant would receive powerful abilities. I had been so moved that the curse was lifted that I forgot. Even as I was now, I had become much stronger, so I couldn’t imagine getting even stronger than this.
“As for how to activate Divine Domain Interference… how should I put it? It’s difficult to explain in words. For now, I’ll have you try it later, so I’ll leave that for the time being.”
“Understood.”
After that, to summarize what she explained to me about a servant’s abilities, it seemed that those abilities were divided into three major categories.
