I drove away the kobolds attacking the carriage with monster-repellent potion.

When I generously gave the injured some low-grade potions, they thanked me excessively for some reason.

“Saint-sama, are you on a pilgrimage journey?”

Just as planned, I was allowed to ride with them to a nearby inhabited town.

The leader said something strange like that to me.

“No, that’s not it.”

Saint? What was that? I’d never heard it before. At least back when I lived in the Royal Capital, I never heard the word saint.

“Ah, I see, traveling incognito.”

“No, not incognito… I’m an alchemist.”

But the leader responded with a smile, “Haha, good joke.”

“A potion from an alchemist couldn’t regrow an arm. You must truly be a Saint.”

“No, I’m telling you I’m an alchemist, not a Saint.”

“That’s impossible. Alchemist potions only stop bleeding at best.”

No way… Potions that worthless were circulating!?

What happened…? Did the world become strange while I was in suspended animation?

Right, that’s it. I was heading to town to gather information.

Maybe I could get information from them.

“Where did you all come from? That area only has ruins, right?”

The leader answered my question.

“We came from the Madeucus Empire.”

“Madeucus… the northern empire? That’s quite a journey. I came from the east, and I saw ruins along the way—what were those?”

I probed a bit. Now then…

“The Royal Capital. Though it seems it was destroyed 500 years ago.”

“F-five hundred years!?”

No way! That much time passed!?

The suspended animation potion preserved cells that long? Amazing—no, wait.

500 years… passed. Well… the Royal Capital would become ruins. And nobody would know me anymore…

Though my master might still be alive.

“What surprises you, Saint-sama?”

“Ah, well…”

This was bad… I had to hide that I was from 500 years ago.

If I honestly said it, they’d think I was crazy and throw me into a clinic.

“…500 years, huh.”

If I had a lover or family, I’d mourn how time erased everyone who knew me.

But I was single. My family had long passed away.

My master? Who knows. He’d probably survive somewhere.

In other words… no one in this world knew me anymore.

“Heh… hehe… hahahaha!”

No reason to be sad. Rather, without strange ties, I felt freer.

I’d already been thinking about quitting my job anyway. Perfect timing.

Maybe traveling this future world freely wouldn’t be bad.

“Saint-sama? What’s wrong?”

“It’s nothing. And I’m not a Saint. I’m an alchemist.”

And so, I—once a court alchemist—began freely traveling the future world after effectively being reborn.
