I am Argos.

Currently, I am participating in a monster hunt.

“Hey, how long has it been since you got your Enchantment?”

“Hm? Ah, about a week ago.”

“Then shouldn’t you switch to a new weapon?”

A fellow knight was spouting that, but I waved my hand dismissively.

“It’s fine, right? You know, the guy who enchants our swords is called Faik. Apparently he’s ridiculously incompetent, you know?”

“What’s that?”

“I have an acquaintance in the blacksmith division, so I visit often. The head smith told me that Faik has no talent, so his Enchantments are only a comfort. Changing swords doesn’t really make a difference.”

“Hey now. I don’t know if he’s incompetent, but it’s not right to talk like that about someone who maintains our tools. Besides, we’re able to hunt monsters with this sword, so isn’t that enough?”

I sighed at his words.

What a boring man. I was thinking we’d get fired up gossiping about Faik together.

“Speaking of which, that commoner knight over there said something gross the other day.”

“Argos. I keep telling you, right? Don’t only badmouth others. It’s not very fun to listen to, you know?”

“Oh?”

What’s with this guy? The other nobles are enjoying my topics.

Badmouthing others is the perfect topic, yet he understands nothing.

Being paired with him for a monster hunt is unlucky. If only I could team up with a noble I know, work would be much more fun.

After walking for a while searching for monsters, I found them.

“There are two of them, goblins. They seem to be berserk, so to hunt safely, coordinate with nearby knights—”

Hearing such lukewarm talk, I strode forward to finish them off quickly.

“If I go it’ll be over quickly. Let’s get it done!”

“Ah, hey Argos!”

I ignored the call to stop and dashed toward the goblins.

The goblins stared at me with eyes much sharper than usual.

I swung the sword I held down. The goblin managed to dodge my attack.

“You damn bastard! Don’t you dare dodge that!”

I stuffed the sword with mana and swung through. It was the next moment.

The sword screamed as if in agony, and it shattered.

“Eh!?”

Wh-what the hell is this!

As I froze in surprise, the goblin’s attack struck me in the face.

“Ugh!?”

I-it hurts…! I’m probably bleeding. My vision warped.

A goblin leapt in for a follow-up and struck my back with that blow.

The sound of bones shattering echoed. A burning heat spread from the struck area through my whole body.

That heat was more than enough to convey the pain to me.

“I-it hurts! Some-one… help me!”

I cried out to the pain I’d never experienced before.

A knight was fighting the goblins to help me, but they were surrounded by newly appeared goblins and struggling.

“Gyaa gyaa!”

The goblin let out a gleeful cry and struck my body with a club.

From the overwhelming pain, I lost consciousness there.
