The next day, we headed back to the Shoisa Cave, this time planning to take on Kobolds right from the start.

That was because defeating Kobolds gave a much better payoff in experience points.

“With my magic power, the limit is probably three casts for Thunder or four for Slip.”

I told Gina as soon as we stepped inside.

My magic power was 9, and assuming Thunder consumed 3 magic power while Slip consumed 2, the math checked out.

Since Slip was effective against Kobolds, that was the spell I wanted to use.

“Understood.”

With that said, Gina would adjust her fighting style accordingly.

The first enemy to appear was an ordinary Kobold wielding a short sword.

“Slip.”

I decided not to bother chanting Slip since the spell’s incantation wasn’t particularly cool anyway.

As expected, Gina instantly cut down the Kobold the moment it slipped and fell, creating a sight that had already become completely familiar.

Gina returned and reported in.

“Master, I’ve reached level 16.”

“Is that so? Nice job.”

Our main fighting force getting stronger was a welcome development for me, too.

The stronger she got, the more dungeons we would be able to tackle.

“Thank you. I will continue to prove useful to you.”

Gina sounded eager, and I nodded in response.

“Let’s not push forward yet; we’ll wait here.”

“As you wish.”

If we ambushed them here, fresh batches of Kobolds should wander in.

Just like goblins, the dungeon’s alertness reset every single day.

The ones that showed up today were two Kobold Archers.

“Let’s take them one by one.”

“Yes.”

Gina nodded at my instruction.

Having learned Thunder, I was now capable of handling a Kobold on my own, unlike yesterday.

“Thunder.”

The Thunder spell flew a long distance, and since it was lightning, it was fast, too.

It struck the Kobold Archer on the left, which had been looking our way and trying to ready its bow.

“Gi-gi-gi.”

It let out a pained groan.

Unfortunately, it seemed I hadn’t managed to take it down in one hit.

“Thunder.”

I delivered a second shot right after, and this time I successfully finished off the Kobold Archer.

Meanwhile, Gina had already instantly dispatched the other Kobold Archer and was collecting the dropped items.

She then picked up the items dropped by the one I had defeated and brought them over.

“It seems two Kobold bows have dropped.”

“We’ll sell them.”

I told Gina, who had come over to report.

They wouldn’t amount to a huge sum of money, but I hoped every little bit would add up.

“As you wish.”

Gina nodded and then asked a question.

“You used Slip once and Thunder twice. Would you like to take a break?”

“Let’s do that.”

I replied.

The alertness of the Kobolds would spike from this point on, after all.

“Let’s head outside the dungeon, drink a potion, and then hunt some goblins.”

“Yes.”

Gina replied.
