At first, safer rewards like sweets and magic tools had been prepared. But Isaac said that wouldn’t entice them and proposed this idea himself.

Facing the lined-up candles, Cordelia looked at everyone.

“As you know, candle flames go out from a certain impact regardless of attribute. Even His Highness was not told the event details, so the conditions are equal. Now, who shall be first?”

“Me.”

As expected, Jean stepped forward.

“After I count three and say ‘Start,’ please begin. —Three, two, one, Start!”

Instantly Jean’s hand moved swiftly.

Like a child playing finger-guns, small fireballs shot from his finger, popping flames out one after another to cheers.

(As expected of Jean.)

The shots had to be precise—too big or small wouldn’t work.

Pop—the last flame vanished.

“Twenty-three seconds!”

“Damn. Not under twenty.”

Still he looked proud.

“I must admit the potato was fast… Next!”

“Stop calling me potato!”

She ignored him and continued.

The harder setup caused many to damage candles, and few reached the twenties.

Seeing none could beat him, Jean smirked.

“You saved the prince for last? What if he can’t clear them?”

Ignoring the urge to slap him, Cordelia nodded. It was Isaac’s turn.

Expressionless, he stepped forward as everyone watched.

“…Ready?”

“Yes.”

“Three, two, one, Start!”

His hand rose—and water magic flashed too fast to see.

The judge stared wide-eyed tracking each flame.

Even Jean now looked anxious.

The last candle hissed out.

“Nineteen seconds!”

Cheers and applause erupted.

“No one was faster than Prince Isaac.”

Smiling, Cordelia looked at Jean.

“…Sorry. Calling you prince… You were amazing, Prince Isaac.”

Isaac blinked—then smiled faintly. Gasps filled the hall.

“Don’t mind it. You were impressive too, Jean.”

They shook hands and girls squealed.

(Oh no… did that awaken new tastes in people!?)

Such friendships stirred hearts everywhere.

(It worked, but I don’t want Jean as a rival!)

The event aimed to let them experience Isaac’s ability and make Jean acknowledge him. Though competitive, Jean respected strength.

But imagining Jean becoming her rival, Cordelia shook her head in dread.
