SDO Originals Are Here: Publish, Keep Every Right, and Compete for $500 - Update

· 6 min read

Today we're opening the doors to SDO Originals: a home for authors to publish their own original novels on SkyDemonOrder. It's free to start, there's no application, and you keep every right to your work. Here's everything that comes with it.

SDO Originals: your story, your terms

If you write, you can publish on SkyDemonOrder starting now. No invite, no application, no gatekeeping. Spin up a project in your Loom dashboard, write chapters, and ship them to readers who are already here.

And to be clear about the most important part: you own your work, 100%. Publishing on SDO Originals transfers no copyright, no IP, no publishing rights. You can translate it, crosspost it, take it to another platform, or walk away with it whenever you want. We host your story; we never own it.

Lifetime: buy once, own access forever

Lifetime is the simplest way to support a novel you love: pay once, and you own access to that series forever. No subscription, no recurring charge, no expiry.

Pricing scales with the size of the novel, and stays in a friendly band:

  • $5 to $40, total. Never more.
  • A typical novel (around 200 chapters) lands at about $10.
  • The $40 ceiling is reached only for the very longest novels, roughly 800+ chapters. A 600-chapter novel, for example, comes in around $30, not the cap.

Premium Complete: finished novels, no waiting

A Premium Complete novel is one that's done. You buy it once and read the whole thing front to back, with no waiting on weekly releases and no cliffhanger limbo. It's finished, and it's yours.

Here's the part worth knowing if you're an early supporter: a novel that's still ongoing can also be offered as an early Lifetime purchase. The price starts lower and climbs as the novel grows, so buying early locks in that lower price forever, even as the story (and its eventual Premium Complete price) gets bigger. Get in early, pay less, own it for good.

Moving to Lifetime: what happens to subscribers

When a project that currently runs on a subscription moves to Lifetime, existing subscribers are protected. For the rest of your current subscription, you keep your full unlock of the entire novel, exactly as you do today. Nothing is cut early.

When your current subscription expires, you choose what's next: buy the Lifetime once to keep permanent access, or simply wait for the normal free releases like any other reader. To set expectations clearly: there's no automatic grandfathering into a free permanent unlock, but your paid access is never taken away before it was due to end.

Our first writing competition

We're launching SDO Originals with a competition, and the full ruleset is below.

  • Runs: July 6, 2026 through January 30, 2027.
  • Prizes: $500 for 1st, $250 for 2nd, $100 for 3rd, plus a 2-month homepage banner for the winners and winner badges on their profiles and projects.
  • One entry per author. Pick a single novel to enter.
  • It must be new and original, and it must stay exclusive to SkyDemonOrder until the competition ends: no crossposting your entry elsewhere while it runs. (All your other stories can be crossposted anywhere, anytime. Only the entry is exclusive.)
  • Prose must be human-written. Using AI for editing, proofreading, and brainstorming is completely fine, but the actual writing has to be yours.

On launch day, a "Register" button appears on your Loom dashboard so you can enter your novel with a single click.

Coming soon

Two things we're actively building:

  • Direct Originals payments for authors, so you can earn directly from your work.
  • EPUB and PDF downloads for Lifetime purchasers, so you can own the book and read it your way.

We'll announce details as each lands.

Edit Update:

Fallen Here!

Should probably clarify just in case:

Free releases will remain the same, and after the free releases are finished, the chapters will remain free to all.

To be more specific:

Free will remain free; if it suddenly becomes completed, when we finish the series, we won't lock the whole thing, that's not what the new update is about.

Also, if, say, epilogue chapters do come out after a series has been completed, the entire completed story will still be free; that doesn't change. The epilogue chapters will probably need some decision-making.

If the epilogue is ongoing, we might release a few free chapters and then a few paid chapters just as usual, or just release them all for free regardless of whether it's ongoing or not. Like I said, we'll have to wait and see on a case-by-case basis.
