The image in the Bronze Ancient Mirror was cloudy.
Then it returned to the foot of the mountain from before.
That was the forest that Gu Changqing and Changxi had initially walked out from and looked down at the mountain village.
Things started here, and they also ended here.
“We started here, we shall end here. From now on, both of us shall not see each other again.”
Changxi stared at Gu Changqing, her gaze wavering, her tears welling up.
All this time, she had yearned to hear this man say one sentence: I’m not leaving anymore.
But that sentence never came.
It was as though when it came to this man’s Dao, the three years they spent together wasn’t even worth mentioning!
“Don’t you have even just a bit of space in your heart for me?”
Changxi had a look of deep sadness on her face. As she couldn’t help but think about the little fox from back then, she suddenly felt a tinge of envy.
As the sun set, the only thing left was prolonged silence.
The most familiar person, yet also the most unfamiliar.
Changxi was still indignant and her lips moved as though she wanted to say something.
But just then, she swallowed her words again.
Her pretty eyes looked toward the village.
She watched as a gigantic wave of demonic qi rushed to the sky and covered the entire village, reaching every corner.
A great demon had descended.
Its demonic qi reached the skies.
“Changqing…”
Changxi’s expression changed dramatically.
She looked at Gu Changqing, to find that his expression had become impossibly icy. As icy as the mountains that had been covered in snow for centuries.
He took a step out and headed for the village.
The quiet and peaceful village had become hell on earth.
At the side of the village.
The straw hut they had lived in for the last three years had collapsed, leaving only one broken wall.
The middle of the village.
The hustle and bustle of everyday life was gone. Those familiar faces had turned into icy cold corpses.
Gu Changqing continued walking with his head down.
In the setting sun, two red lanterns swayed in the wind.
He stopped to look at the lanterns hanging in the ruins of the yard.
Those pure and simple words rang in his ears.
“My brother Gu, you know, I really want a daughter. If my wife gives me a daughter this time, I’ll hang big red lanterns on my door and treat the entire village to dinner…”
“Uncle Gu, my mother gave birth to a little sister, so my father wanted me to invite you to our house for dinner tomorrow night…”
The lanterns were still there, but the people were not.
It was as though things had come full circle.
After a long and bumpy road, he still came back to his starting point. The village where he was born, his parents, the familiar villagers.
They had all met their ends on the same night, and it was just as tragic.
Humans were as weak and pathetic as ants in this universe after all.
No, that wasn’t right.
That wasn’t right to say at all.
Before the heavens, humans might be as small as ants. But humans had a heart that refused to admit defeat.
Their will could not be extinguished, their ways existed forever.
Humans could defy the heavens and win.
In the skies, an unparalleled power descended.
Demonic qi reached the sky as a powerful ape demon descended to the mortal realm.
Its deep, sinister murderous intent made Changxi tremble a little.
But Gu Changqing continued to stand there quietly and look down on the already destroyed village. As if the murderous intent in that place did not exist to him.
The heavens were unable to make his heart or will waver. What could this demonic murderous intent do to him?
…
Outside the mirror.
The cultivators stared in stunned silence at what they saw.
Over the past three years, the Heavenly Emperor and Changxi had lived here.
The strong human bonds built made even the people outside the mirror feel a sense of warmth.
Nobody would have thought that this quiet village would suddenly suffer such a terrible calamity.
“That divine ape is a demon, right?”
“Judging from its aura, it’s almost at Saint King!”
Some of the cultivators passed these comments.
“I just want to know, what is the Heavenly Emperor going to do now?”
“I think he’ll probably run for it. After all, all this time, he just treated the humans as tools. Based on the fact that he would slaughter humans shortly after this, that’s enough to prove that he has no feelings toward mortals.”
“If he really makes a run for it, I’ll be very disappointed in him!”
“Over the last three years, he lived as a mortal in the village and the neighbors had helped him a lot.”
“But if he doesn’t run, what can he do? Don’t forget, even though the Heavenly Emperor has been cultivating in Human Dao, it seems he hasn’t made even the slightest bit of progress!”“If he doesn’t have any cultivation, then a Saint King divine ape like this can crush him with just one fingertip.”
“If you ask me, I think the Heavenly Emperor must have abandoned the Silver Moon Great Empress and run off by himself…”
The cultivators fell silent again, as though they already knew how things would end.
Only Changxi did not offer her opinion at all. She just quietly watched the image in the mirror, watched that familiar yet unfamiliar figure reflected in it.
…
In the mirror.
The black mist around the giant ape rose, and in the next moment, transformed into a cultivator wearing a black robe.
“I did not expect you to really end up in this field.”
The cultivator in black was full of smiles, but the eyes he used to stare at Gu Changqing with were filled with mockery.
He was a great demon of the Demon Kingdom in Tangshan!
That day, when Gu Changqing barged into Tangshan and Tanggu by himself.
All Saint Kings, Supremes fell like rain, Quasi-Emperors were mere ants to him, and even the Golden Crow Great Emperor of the demon race was reduced to nothing but a cloud of blood.
Thankfully he had run fast enough, otherwise he would have died in the mountains. In fact, he might have been reduced to powder from even the slightest exertion of power from this man.
The kingdom was destroyed, the race annihilated.
The feud he had with Gu Changqing was one where either one had to die.
But when he looked at how this Great Emperor that had once been able to make him pee himself with just one stare had ended up falling to this stage, the cultivator in black began to entertain some sinister thoughts.
He was going to slowly torture this ex-Great Emperor to death!
That was the only way he could get rid of all the hatred in him!
“You have lost all the cultivation you had. I’m going to see how you escape this time.”
Above the void, the demon ape turned cultivator reached his hand out. Between his fingers, demonic qi gushed out. The demonic qi turned into millions of twisted demon faces that rushed toward Gu Changqing standing in the open field.
Woong…
The entire heaven and earth shook.
The almost neverending rush of demonic qi was shattered.
After it had all disappeared, Gu Changqing stood in the same place completely unhurt, because someone was now standing in front of him.
It was Changxi.
“You?” The demon ape in the void stared at Changxi in shock.
Just a moment later, that expression turned into one of deep hatred.
That was a hatred that could fill the skies.
“Why? Why did you save him? Have you forgotten how the Emperor and Empress died?”
Changxi bit her lower lip, her beautiful face resolute.
She didn’t want to think about the past. She only knew that she wasn’t going to let anyone hurt the man behind her.
Even if she died, she wasn’t going to let that happen.
“You’ve fallen for him? Haha…haha…a traitor of the demon race…”
“Today, I’m going to kill him. Let’s see what you can do about that…”
Immediately after he uttered those words, the demon ape turned man held the sky up with his right hand, then grabbed hold of something above it. The infinite starlight was captured in his palm.
The illusion of the stars appeared.
It carried the terrifyingly powerful will of the ancestors of the demons and flew toward his opponent to suppress her.
Changxi turned to look at the man behind her.
Her gaze was filled with simply too many things.
*Dust to dust, ashes to ashes. May all love, hate, emotions and feuds, return to their starting point and break all karmic connections in this moment. *
