The starlight covered the entire area.

The powerful demonic qi transformed into a gigantic cage that covered the sky and locked down the earth.

The demon ape that was close to Saint King swore to crush Gu Changqing and never given him any chance to escape.

The cage was formed and nobody below his level of cultivation would be able to escape it.

In front of the Bronze Ancient Mirror.

The cultivators watching nodded slightly with approval.

The way this great demon was launching this fight was commendable in some ways.

The Heavenly Emperor, Gu Changqing, had lost all his cultivators and was as good as trash now, but he was once someone at Great Emperor realm, which was the most terrifying of existences in this world. So, when faced with a cultivation genius like him, regardless of how weak he seemed now, one ought to fight him with everything you’ve got.

“At this rate, the Heavenly Emperor looks like he’s definitely doomed. How did he get out of this?”

Such a question popped up in everybody’s mind.

“Could it be that some even more powerful cultivator appeared and saved him and the Silver Moon Great Empress?”

“That had to be the case…”

They were cornered on all sides. Getting out of this was going to be tough.

A great demon had descended on the mortal realm and had a grip over the land.

Changxi, in her white robes, flew toward the starlight, like a moth flying into fire. Even if she were to be obliterated and die just like that, she did not hesitate.

The endless starlight came down.

The endless darkness of the world was displaced.

In the starlight, the previously tranquil village was burning. Between the broken and ruined walls were cold, unfeeling corpses.

They had once lived here with no worries.

They all had their own names.

But now, everything they had had been taken from them.

The women in their old age…

The hardworking men…

The children in swaddling clothes…

Changxi’s fair hand touched the void gently and the Moon Planet in the highest levels of heaven sensed her summoning, so it showered layers upon layers of moonlight.

That was the power of the moon.

This kind woman, this future Empress, was burning her own energy to summon the power of the moon.

She burned herself up to shake the world.

To protect the man in her heart.

That was her obsession.

The power of the stars and the power of the moon made contact in this world that belonged to mortals.

The entire world shook.

The demon ape turned cultivator stood above the skies and looked down with a sneer.

“How audacious of you. Even when you were at your most powerful, you might not have defeated me. Right now, your divine soul has suffered damage, yet you try to fight me.”

“Today, I will crush you. Then I shall see who else can still protect him…”

His threatening voice echoed.

Changxi remained silent as she burned more of herself to summon more of the power of the moon, forming a protective shield over her head.

When the terrifying power of the stars crashed into this thin shield, it threw up countless sparks.

Changxi vomited blood, but she still held up quietly.

Because she knew that she was his last line of defense. If she collapsed, then nobody else would be able to protect the man behind her.

There was blood everywhere.

The moonlight began to dim.

In front of the mirror, everyone’s eye was on Gu Changqing.

The man standing in the middle of the destroyed village within that vast plain.

Since the start until now, Gu Changqing had not even raised his head to look at the sky.

As though the fight in the sky had nothing to do with him.

He just stood there in the middle of the rubble and stared at all the lifeless bodies around him.

“What in the world is he doing? Why is he standing there in a daze? Is he too frightened to move?”

“He’s the Heavenly Emperor, how could he be too frightened to move?”

“Perhaps, right now, he has resigned himself to his fate…”

The cultivators exchanged whispers, and some even had mocking looks on their faces.

In the mirror, Gu Changqing suddenly started walking. He slowly made his way down that path.

Humans…

Human Dao…

What was Human Dao?

All these years, he had been thinking about this question but still couldn’t get any answers.

He had once broken through the void and reached Emperor realm.

He had once thought that all the Dao of this world, like Heavenly Dao, were nothing but unfeeling laws that did not care for anyone or anything, not even his own interests.

But slowly he began to realize that perhaps he was wrong.

Perhaps Human Dao was not supposed to be like this.

Right now, he stared at this village in ruins and saw all the familiar faces appear before his eyes.

Each of these people were unique individuals.

They had their own name, their own way of thinking. Even though they came as quickly as they went without making much of a splash, they still managed to leave their mark behind.

The passing on of bloodlines.

Made sure life went on.

As long as humans were not wiped out, then their torch of life would live on forever.

Human Dao was the passing on of the torch…

Human Dao was these countless humans…

With one stroke to the left, and a stroke to the right, they formed the character for mankind. It was a very simple character, but how many people in the world really understood this character?

In that moment, Gu Changqing raised his hand and started drawing in the air.

He drew one stroke to the left.

In the high skies, an obvious line suddenly appeared.

It matched the stroke to the left he had just drawn.

The world began to shake.

The whole mortal world, those countless human villages, those countless human cities, the humans who kept passing on the torch, felt like they had been summoned. They all raised their heads to look at the sky.

Gu Changqing’s hand moved again.

He drew a stroke to the right.

The world shook once more.

One stroke to the left and one stroke to the right made up the character for mankind.

In front of the mirror.

“That’s a huge character in the sky,” one of them couldn’t help but comment when he saw the two stroke character in the mirror.

Indeed, it was huge.

It was such a simple character, yet it carried so much weight and beheld so much vitality.

The moment it appeared, the terrifying power of the stars that demon ape wielded shattered and disappeared completely.

The powerful demon ape’s expression changed dramatically.

He stood in the skies and stared down at Gu Changqing in disbelief.

Never in his wildest dreams would he have thought that someone who had lost all cultivation would be able to write such a terrifying word.

“I’m going to crush you! Even if I have to burn myself up, I don’t care, I want you dead…”

This great demon was furious and determined, even at the expense of himself, he wanted to kill Gu Changqing.

Changxi vomited blood. She wanted to stop this great demon driven mad with rage, but she was too severely injured. She fell from the sky and crashed heavily into the empty land below.

The demon ape began to burn his own energy and pushed himself to the limit. He broke past Saint King and reached Supreme realm.

Gu Changqing looked up and stared at this gigantic, powerful, great demon, but there wasn’t even a flicker in his eyes.

“The torch will not be put out, the way of mankind shall last forever. Since I am in the mortal world, then I am invincible…”

“The will of mankind, gather…”

His calm and distant voice began to interact with this mortal world.

In an unseen dimension, the will of mankind began to surge toward him from all directions.

“Today, I will use the sword of mortals to slay you.”

“Sword, come to me…”

The void shattered.

A sword made from the will of mankind appeared from nowhere and landed in Gu Changqing’s hand.

Just one swing turned everything into dust.

That great demon that had reached Supreme realm howled in despair as he turned into nothingness.
