Vim’s spell connected with flawless precision, slamming squarely into the wyvern.
“GWUOOOO!!!!”
Taking the high-caliber magic straight to its frame, the wyvern let out a thunderous roar.
Anticipating the exact split second the wyvern flinched from the impact, Misa and Hana aggressively charged forward to close the distance.
“Haaah!”
Under normal circumstances, executing an offensive using standard blades places a vanguard unit at a distinct tactical disadvantage against a wyvern. Because its scales form an incredibly dense, ironclad outer hide, standard physical cuts fail to bite deep into the flesh. Even so, every biological entity possesses a structural weakness; the trick was to skillfully maneuver around its guard to exploit those vitals.
“To the Spirits of Water, I dictate the terms of petition!”
Without pausing his internal casting loops, Vim instantly deployed a high-grade ice alignment array, driving a barrage of crystallized ice lances straight toward the wyvern.
Seizing the precise window of opportunity provided by his sensory disruption, Misa and Hana unleashed a furious, coordinated physical assault to press the advantage.
“Lord Vim, please give us the signal!” Misa shouted across the cavern.
“Leave it to me.”
The corner of Vim’s mouth curled upward into a brief smirk.
“To the Spirits of Light, I dictate the terms of petition!”
The moment the trigger words left his lips, a boundless matrix of radiant light arrows manifested symmetrically above Vim’s head. With a single flick of his focus, the deployed light artillery rained down upon the wyvern in a devastating volley.
“GWUOOOOOO—!”
Unleashing a final, agonizing shriek, the wyvern collapsed heavily onto the stone floor, its colossal frame thoroughly riddled with spears of solid light.
“And with this… it’s over.”
Answering the cold resonance of Vim’s voice, the absolute final arrow of concentrated light pierced deep into the core of the wyvern’s chest cavity. The massive beast shuddered once, its life signs completely flatlining. It never moved again.
“The threat is officially neutralized.”
“We… we genuinely went ahead and dismantled the absolute final boss of the deepest sector, didn’t we?…” Hana murmured under her breath, staring blankly at the massive heap of the wyvern’s carcass.
“Yeah. Looks like it.”
“Lord Vim, how do you want to handle the logistics for the wyvern’s raw materials? Shall we harvest the components to bring back to the Capital?” Misa asked.
It was a concrete fact that high-tier wyvern parts were exceptionally rare commodities that commanded exorbitant prices on the open merchant markets.
“For the time being, let’s simply harvest the core monster nucleus and leave the rest,” Vim calculated.
“Understood.”
A monster core of this absolute magnitude served as definitive, legally binding proof that the S-class entity had been successfully subjugated, and it would fetch a massive payout at any guild office.
Misa moved with exceptional dexterity, systematically extracting the core from the wyvern’s dense hide. She truly lives up to her rigorous training in the Holy Knights, Vim reflected. A tedious extraction procedure of this caliber was an effortless exercise for someone of her professional background.
“The harvesting sequence is complete, Lord Vim,” Misa announced, presenting the glowing nucleus a mere few minutes later.
“Thank you.”
“Well now, shall we execute our extraction from this site?”
“Understood.”
“Right behind you, sir.”
Dragging the massive remains of the wyvern to the absolute edge of the central chamber, Vim and his companions formally turned their backs on the deepest domain.
Granted, while they had successfully obliterated the Ultimate Guardian of the site, a dungeon operated on a cyclical loop: as long as the internal mana nodes remained active, another boss entity would inevitably manifest at these exact coordinates once a specific chunk of time elapsed. That was simply the core architectural blueprint governing all dungeons.
Vim and his party retraced their steps along the exact path they had used to navigate downward. Any stray magical beasts that occasionally manifested in the upper corridors were systematically incinerated by a casual wave of Vim’s fire magic. Within less than a single hour of steady marching, the structural exit of the dungeon loomed into view.
“Magnificent work today, you two.”
““Thank you for your hard work, Lord Vim!””
Stepping outside the cavernous threshold, the brilliant, warm rays of the natural sun bathed their frames.
“Alright, let’s head straight to the local branch office to deliver our formal report to the Branch Master.”
After all, their primary objective for today was strictly to execute a basic dungeon investigation, not a full-scale conquest. In a manner of speaking, completely clearing out the dungeon’s absolute strongest entity was merely a casual bonus added to the itinerary.
“Yes, let’s do that.”
With their mission objectives flawlessly checked off, Vim and his companions guided their steps back toward the bustling streets of Heim.
